From the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, it's the Boys Cross D State Championship presented by Wear Butler between the Sky Wolverines and the Saint Dominic Academy.
Saint.
Good afternoon, and welcome back to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor for the boys class D state championship match up.
I'm Brian Stevens, along with the ever knowledgeable coach Ken Wooden.
Laugh.
It is number one ranked Wolverines taking on number two out of the South, Saint Dominic's.
The Saints out of Saint Dominic.
Academy and a couple of teams that even though they are far apart geographically, they are familiar with one another.
They know each other quite well.
They both go to, summer basketball camp at Central Maine Community College.
They've been in the championship game the last two years, the last two summers.
So this is kind of the rubber match, although a lot more at stake, today than at the, summer basketball camp, that's for sure.
Indeed.
And, in talking to at least, Coach Hutchins beforehand, you and I, one of the comments that he made, I thought was pretty interesting.
Yes.
Once an ugly game, because if it's an ugly game, he feels his team is in better position than if it's a game up in the sun.
Well, both teams, stressed defense.
You'll see both teams like to get out and press and apply pressure.
In order to do that, though, you, you have to score.
So it's going to be a game of, you know, who can who can have going to run for like 3 or 4 minutes.
And that might spell the difference in the game.
All right.
Now let's turn things over to Jim Baynes for the first of our two coaching interviews.
All right coach well I'll tell you the first championship game for Saint Dom's.
That's got to be great.
And a great situation for everybody there.
Yeah.
It's exciting.
Baseball and hockey have won, a lot at our school.
I don't know how many hockey's won.
Baseball's won three in a row.
So it's exciting to have our chance to add to that legacy.
Saint Dom's, the boys are really excited for this opportunity.
We'll tell you what separates these guys from the pack.
To win a regional and not make it here.
I just think it's.
They work incredibly hard every day.
They're so fun to coach.
They're coachable kids, and I really think it's our size.
We're a long, we're athletic, we're fast, and I think if you don't see that, it takes you by surprise.
Just how long and athletic and tall we really are.
So we're hoping to use that to our advantage today.
Skates really good.
And they're really well coached, so it should be a great ballgame.
All right, coach, good luck to you.
Thank.
All right.
Thank you very much, Jim.
And, Saint Dominic's.
They again play for the class C state championship during the regular season.
They don't play a class D school.
They play a B right there.
Yeah, they're in the, Mountain Valley Conference.
And so they play a strong schedule.
State plays a number of class C teams as well.
So and both teams are capable of really, competing, you know, at a, at a level higher.
And that's what it takes to win at your level.
Can you play a level up and be competitive or even successful.
All right.
Let's check in again with Jim Baynes and coach Erin Hutchins.
Jim.
All right Erin, I tell you East Millinocket that way they're passionate sports towns.
They must love this today.
Oh absolutely.
You take a look behind me.
I mean, we've we've traveled well.
All right.
Good season, all tournament.
It's great to see it really is positive for our community, for our younger athletes coming up through this is what it's all about, right?
It's easy to see.
You got some big boys like you're playing up against here.
How did you prepare what you talk to him in practice about?
Yeah, I know we see these guys during the summer quite a bit at team camp.
We know what we're up against.
We can't simulate their size in our practice with our second five.
But, you know, we got a game plan.
Hopefully we can execute.
Stick to it.
All right, well, we'll see how it goes.
All right.
That's, it's a great point.
How do you prepare for a team like they got your second squad or your practice squad?
Not minutes.
Yeah, I've seen most every one of them is, six one and and and longer.
We stress length instead of, height because these guys have long arms and extremely athletic.
And they'll be in a one, three, one.
That's it.
That's the their go to pressure, defense.
So they'll extend the court and try to, trap.
And Schanke will do the same thing.
They're all they're they're more of AA2 to one, kind of three quarter or a half court, trap team as well.
So both both, teams have similar styles.
So once again, it's going to be a game of, you know, who can who can go on a run or who who can sustain a run.
All right.
Now it is time to check out the Road to Gold.
Yeah.
Taking a look at us.
Saint Dom to 20 and one, record.
The only losses to Saint are rather Mount Abraham, and they, are competing for the class C championship tonight.
63 points a game, only giving up 37.
Finished number two.
And they, took care of a decent Valley team in the, southern main finals.
On the other side.
Skank Wolverines.
They lost their first opening game of the season to Katahdin, and they've won 20 in a row since then, averaging 58, giving up 35.
Both teams excellent defensively they finished number one in the North.
And they defeated Katahdin in the regional final.
Their last Gold Ball was 15 years ago.
Really?
Many people's eyes kind of surprising the final scores or the scores out of those, each of those finals.
Yeah.
Dom's really, really Mustangs over the tied.
Yeah.
Like we talked about.
Yeah.
Katahdin, beat Schanke earlier in the year.
So, big improvement from the first part of the year to till now.
That was Skiing's only loss of the year of the very first game of the year on and all the way for the almost 20 million principals, the rich NC state basketball championship presented by where Butler Building Supply, a division of Pleasant River lumber.
This class D boys state championship matchup features a Southern Maine champs with a record of 20 in 1.

Tangled mess.

Number 33.
Mason the flame.

And the head coach of the Saints is Josh Le Pro for.
And now let's meet the Northern Maine champs.

And number three, Sam Jacobs.
For the Saints, senior number two, Isaac Young, Bay.
And for the Wolverines, a senior number 11, Cameron Atkinson.
For Saint Dominic, a senior captain.
Number five, Jonathan Taylor.
Again, the MSU.
And for a Shenker junior, number 13 Braden Osborne.
For the Saints, sophomore number 13 Darnell Cain, MSU.
And for the Wolverines, a captain senior number 32 Owen Wyman.
For Saint Dominic, a senior captain.
Number 14 Jack Brockie.
And for a skank, a senior number 34 Devin Gardner.
The officials for this game are Mr. Barbie, Mr. Beal, and Mr. Gordon.
Certified athletic training services are provided by Northern Lights Sports Health.
Moments away from getting the boys Class D state championship game underway in both teams, starting off with four seniors and an underclassmen on the floor, this seniors and a junior.
The junior for Braden Osborne and for Saint John's for seniors and Danielle Tingle.
MSU is the sophomore out on the floor.
Those are the respective leading scorers for each team Barney in black and Wyman in white.
Wyman averaged a double double this year.
Tip is up and first controlled by the Wolverines, and we are underway.
Getting off to a fast start.
Very important in a game like this.
Wyman takes it down along the baseline and is blocked.
Bucky got a hand on it and then the pass too far over the head and out of bounds.
Yeah.
Jack Brock.
He averaged over three blocks a game.
That's that's outstanding.
So with the dead ball situation you'll see Saint Dom's going into their 131 54 blocks on the season.
That's pretty impressive.
He's got one here in the very early going of this championship game.
You'll see double teams and traps.
In the corner Donahue with it.
He is blocked again.
Two for two two shots two blocks.
The other team looking to be the first to get on the scoreboard.
Right side with it.
Rocky.
Nothing there.
Rebound offensive rebound.
No good.
Ball loose on the floor.
He's.
And it's going to remain with the Saints as coach.
Pressure was out of bounds.
Yeah.
Coach Hutchins was concerned about giving up offensive rebounds to the superior sized Saint Dom.
Saint shot from the left side.
No good.
Rebound taken down by Jacobs.
Good job blocking out that time by the Wolverines.
So when Saint Thomas doesn't score, they get an empty trip.
They play man to man.
Atkinson gets it over to Don here.
Now it is Osborne with the shot off the mark.
The corner out front comes the shot.
Can't get him.
You no good, John.
Thank.
Unless you you can see that blocking out has been, emphasized this week to do a good job staying.
Schanke is so far.
Driving into the lane off the glass.
No, he he was fouled.
Donya took it to the hole and draws the foul.
Took a look at it coming right at us.
That's, denial.
Thankfully, MSU now gets the block.
But first at the one.
Got a piece as well.
Gavin.
God, your.
On the line to shoot two is gone.
You.
Skank draws first blood.
Looking for a second point.
Nothing there.
You know, skank has decent size too.
With Garnier and Wyman are both six three, six four.
So, there's a lot of size up the court here, Barney, with it spins into the lane.
And a whistle.
And we've got a follow against skank, which in on Wyman, I believe.
It's gang follower number 32.
Bo and Wyman.
That's his first.
And the first foul on Wyman.
What is the first foul against the Wolverines here in the first quarter?
Paul mishandled, UMD turns the ball back over to the Wolverines.
So good spacing by, skanks in terms of trying to the teeth to one, three, one trap going go with it.
Hands off to Osborne is leveled up.
Double team.
Wyman.
The three.
No.
No.
We'll go the other way.
Barney pass is picked off.
Going up and taking it down is on Wyman.
Osborne on the dribble.
We've got a foul on second.
It's going to go on Isaac Yuan.
Bang on the Saint John McFarland.
Number two Isaac Young made his first team's first foul on you.
And day.
Second foul on the Saints.
Coach Aaron Hutchins along the sideline there for the Wolverines.
Got a set play here coming out of a sideline out of bounds.
In the lane with it Atkinson kicks it out into the corner.
There's a three off the iron and kicking it up ahead is you on.
They they'll take it into the lane.
It's knocked away by Osborne A lot of blocked shots going on here at this afternoon.
Jacobs was it Audi gives off to Atkinson.
Now it is Osborne alone.
Junior out on the floor for the Wolverines.
Let's go up second around there.
He.
He's the high post player.
And now Wideman plays down in the low post.
So they're kind of an old old school two post offensive team pass too tall for Osborne.
Goes out of bounds.
Now this allows skate to get into into their three quarter court trap.
2 to 1 almost midway through this first quarter and still not a field goal.
The only point on the board coming from the foul line.
Now both teams are outstanding defensively.
So points are going to be at a premium today.
Driving is you and they.
And he is fouled.
That'll be two on Wyman.
It's going to be two.
It's going to file a number 32.
Oh and Wyman there's a there's the foul shooting to cross the arms.
You one day with check that with Wyman with two fouls Monday on the line to shoot.
He's got to be careful.
Stay on your feet.
Avoid that second foul.
His first shot is too strong into the game for the Wolverines.
Number checking in.
Gillespie.
Caleb.
Sophomore.
So tough break for Schanke.
Their leading scorers, goes to the bench with two two personal fouls when Bay misses them both.
The rebound taken down by Schanke.
So the Saints still not on the board.
Still not a field goal to be had in this game.
Osborne fakes the pass in the lane.
Keeps the dribble gets it over to Peter.
He just into the game.
Osborne kicks it out.
Peavy is blocked away.
All right.
Gets the crowd on this side of the auditorium.
Up in Adam is John.
Thank you very much.
You knocked it out of bounds with authority.
We've already seen more blocked shots and, one half of one quarter.
And we would most high school basketball games.
And Mainz driving into the lane gonna kicks it over to Peavy.
And he Trump hook three seconds.
Sometimes block shots can have a psychological effect.
Two guys start to become hesitant around the lane.
2 to 1 pressure.
Now you know I think Thompson try to just get it to the middle Arnie brings it up gets it up to you on de.
Monte back with it.
Spins his way.
Left elbow kicks it down low off the glass and it's go.
Penetration by Bernie and found MSU with the layup John tangle.
And that's you with the first bucket of this game.
And now a foul on the other end John you went in.
Let's take a look here.
Watch.
Varney gets penetration.
Rocky spots a wide open Jonathan Tank.
The MSU.
Brother of Darnell Jonathan the older.
He's a senior.
Darnell's a sophomore Karl shot is up and in for Garnett I knew him in the game.
Miss game number 22 Brian Brown comes into the game for Coach Hutchins for the Wolverines.
And the fall.
Short around and out.
So this game still has not scored from the floor.
And cutting down the lane.
Laying it up for two is down now.
Tangled tangled MSU came off a shuffle.
Cut up a high post screen and nobody helped.
Ball knocked away from behind.
And Saint John's takes it the other way.
Turnovers and blocks.
Oh quickly they pass it out.
Right side three shot.
No good.
That was Brock.
He's there.
He's got a fox.
Their best three point shooter John Tangle of the year will pick up the foul.
Saint Dominic foul on number five.
Carnahan.
Thank you MSU his first team is 48.
Yes.
Will go to the line on the next team.
Foul by Saint Dom's.
Jacobs goes in strong.
Goes to the floor.
No battle underneath.
We've got a foul.
Let's take a look here.
Breaking pressure.
Picks up the foul right here.
Saint Dominic foul on number two Isaac Young.
His second one picks up the foul.
Let's number two on him 15 foul.
So on the line to shoot two could have picked regardless.
They could have call it on.
Jonathan Tagliani makes two as well.
On this call shot by number three Hayden Brand.
It's two for five from the foul line.
The three for six and three points for the Wolverines have come from the charity stripe.
He kicks it off right side.
Rocky, back to Varney.
Try to get it into the lane.
It's knocked away quickly.
Up ahead it goes to Brown.
Brown goes in strong off the right side.
Follow it up and in by Cameron Hoskinson.
So the first field goal for the Wolverines 6.5 minutes into the game.
You know you look that at the end of the lane off the glass.
No good there.
Fire for a block.
You.
Atkinson gets it up to Brown and knocked on the sideline.
Both teams guilty of a lot of turnovers here.
Of course some of those turnovers are blocked shots.
Also you said that skank wouldn't have a field goal until like 6.5 minutes in.
And they would lead.
And it would be kind of surprising I think.
Again, Rich Jacobs with a hand on it of the turnover.
Osborne back with it into the lane.
Penetrates off the glass to hard.
Up ahead he goes.
Varney kicks it out.
Right side for Aiden Rahn who's committed the game.
30s to play here in the first quarter I'd say it's an entertaining game, not a high scoring one.
But.
Osborne thought about stepping back.
Gets the ball back along the baseline and it's out of bounds off screen.
And the officials I think are going to talk about this one.
And it is going to be state goal I think he just pointed the wrong way.
I think he had the call right indicated wrong.
Well there were a lot of folks on the other side of the auditorium that were more than happy to help him find a direction.
Oh, skank.
Inbounding the ball, leading by one.
Osborne with the ball.
Brown goes in off the iron.
No good.
And that's the end of the first quarter, with Schanke leading it by a score of five four.
We'll be back right after this.

Back here at the Cross Insurance Center.
Just about ready to get underway with quarter number two in this boys class D state championship game.
Schanke leading it by one, five, four.
And let's get a little love.
Not sure if that first quarter would constitute an ugly game which Coach Hutchins was hoping for.
Well, both teams are outstanding defensively.
This has a three point shot.
Taylor Varney connects for three.
But getting back into their pressure there with A131 after the made field goal and streaking down.
Whiteside is in for two.
Skank has done a pretty good job breaking pressure to.
Nearly picked off that pass.
Kick it out.
Another three thrown up there in this one by John Boy.
He's their best three point shooter.
You got to find him.
Make sure you stay connected.
He had three threes in the quarterfinals against Forest Hills.
And then three more against Valley in the Southern final.
Shot blocked by Brockie that time.
It's out right side shot high off the glass by Rahm.
I mean gives back out to Cameron to Braden Osborne.
Who takes crown looking for the cutter and whistle.
The foul will be called against Saint Dom's.
It's going to be on Rand.
I think it's off the claim range, though.
First things first of the second quarter.
Back in the game for Saint John for quite a number.
And it was the first team foul this quarter.
Inbound pass comes to Osborne.
Osborne in the baseline out of bounds play.
He'll inbound it and then go post to try to get the ball right back.
Osborne with the pull off no good.
Osborne was really good at that.
Pull up jump shot around 15ft.
Body drives in turns, shoots around and out and battle for.
And a tie up will.
Dean Scaife will have the ball to the Wolverines.
Timeout.
Timeout called on the floor by Saint Dom's 32nd timeout.
Saints leading it by 310 seven.
Just over six minutes to go here in the first half of play.
Coach Coach Brown may want to make an adjustment here in his pressure because, he's has done a good job of spreading the floor.
Let's take a look at a couple of block shots.
There's a shot blocked from behind.
There's a shot.
I think it was Jonathan Pengelly.
It makes you.
Have been a number shots here in this first half.
Yeah.
They're changing their pressure right now 131 has been ineffective.
So they're going to go 1 to 2.
They're going to trap right away of the head.
It goes to Brown streaking in off the right side.
Waits for the defender nicely to go by and hits the bucket.
Good job with the pump fake.
Got two feet on the floor but off the two feet with the ball fake.
Nice job.
Jason.
Little flame has come into the game for Saint John's.
Number 33.
Whistle will send the ball the other way.
Wow.
Good players checking in the delay into the game for the Saints.
Number four.
Jack Brodie is back into the game.
Now they're back to the 131.
Let's see if they played a little more different differently.
Osborne dribbles it across.
They're allowing Osborne to turn the corner.
But Brown gives over now to Weimann I got to Brown quickly.
They'll move the ball.
And the three ball put up and around.
No good.
Rebound taken down by the now tangle NSU.
Hardy trying to hits the cutter but not a clear passing lane.
It's a half and the bucket is good.
Is Samuel Jacobs will go to the line to try to make it three.
Great pass by Osborne.
Look at this.
Is brought to you, the Saint Dom's players.
They'll leave their feet actively trying to block shots at the line.
Sure, there was a ton of conflict, but that'll be number two on Brockie.
Is another look at it from behind.
But Rocky really had no opposition to even attempt to block.
Two long break in the fall shot.
No good by Jacobs.
Five minutes to play here in the first half.
11 so as to work on the drive.
Draws the foul.
Yeah, there's a lot of contact on the way through as well.
You can't see Bernie come down.
He'll tap his head.
He's calling for Mizzou.
Well set up ball screen for him.
Here he comes.
There's a there's the reach.
Oh yeah.
Take your pick of who the foul might be on Hunter Hill is whistled for the foul.
That is his first.
Try.
The line shooting was Taylor Varney who was.
It was four points here in the first half.
This is his second.
Stolen away by the Saints.
Bonnie has it knocked away.
Picked up the shot.
Too strong.
Off the glass.
Ball loose and we'll go the other way.
Is Sam Jacobs brings it up for the Wolverines.
Ball loose.
And the fans on the other side of the floor wanting to travel has Isaac Yuan.
They went to the floor with the ball.
Bernie goes in stolen foreign strong drive.
Took a right to the rack off the steal by Juan de.
1311 Saint Dom's on top by a pair.
Osborne with the ball on him is Darnell Bagley.
MSU swing it down into the corner to Wyman.
Wyman inside it goes to hail back out on top.
Oh.
Nearly knocked away but saved by Osborne.
The possession right now to this point by Schanke.
They can convert it even better, but not this time.
As Brown misses from the corner.
At the head.
So that time he refused.
The screen went opposite.
Armani goes to work on Hill.
So they'll move it around a rocky.
And it's out of bounds off the Saints.
End of the game for 11 Cameron Atkinson for number 34 Gavin Greiner it back into the game.
Sam Jacobs has a seat.
Atkinson in as well for the Wolverines.
Going for the steal.
There was Isaac Yuan de coming up empty.
Now here's A131 in the half court.
Haven't seen that yet.
Brown nearly has it knocked away, but he's able to recover.
Quick cans and a lot of length up top in that one.
Three one.
Brown kicks it over it out to Gardner who puts it up for two.
Nice job using his body to seal the defender.
You know tied at 13.
On comes the ball screen uses this time I off the top of the arc.
No good in battle four and it's going to be state goal is a tie up call ball alternating possession arrow gives it to the Wolverines.
You just take a look at your strong power drive.
Gets two feet down again in the lane.
So he's not off balance.
Was able to power it up.
And in Brock he had to back off.
So he didn't pick up his third.
Believe the possession arrow possession belongs to.
Well it's not reset.
So it's supposed to be Saint Dom's ball.
So it will go to the Saints.
Now you wonder if they don't start, trying to go to, Jonathan Tang.
They miss him because he's got Wyman guarding him, and Wyman has two fouls and now tangling.
I see who gets the ball on the inbounds.
Oh, it gives back to Varney off the glass.
No good offensive rebound up and nothing there as John Tank leaves you.
Fouls goes to the floor.
And then we'll go to the line.
Ball is on Atkins.
Atkinson number 11 Cameron good work on the offensive glass by tank the MSU.
But it starts with Varney.
He gets penetration.
People have to rotate and help.
And they leave offensive rebounding unguarded.
When.
Angular necessary gets his first to connect for the Saints.
Number three Hayden Grande checking back in for the Saints.
Go back down.
This is second shot, Schanke.
The rebound.
Osborne walks it across midcourt.
Gives it up to Atkinson.
Swing it around into the corner.
And Dom's on top by one in the lane.
Shot is up and in by throwing it out of here.
Good job.
A little two dribble drive into the lane again a jump stop puts gets two feet down and finishes over the top.
Rocky gets his own rebound.
We'll take the second shot a little floater up and in right.
Rocky somebody they'll lost track of who was guarding Brock.
You that time.
Nearly turned over there by the Wolverines.
Some miscommunication.
Into the corner to Wyman.
Three hits.
Oh, and one man.
There he is.
Nice three, though, against the one.
Three, one.
Those corners are going to be open.
You got to be able to make those shots.
I mean had 16 points in the regional finals, 18 in the quarterfinals.
Shot is short by Brock.
Under a minute to play skank with the ball and a two point lead.
Ball loose and we're going to have a foul called against skunk.
There's Robbie again with the quick has.
He's getting deflections and steals out there.
He was all over 30.
Valley conference first team defensive player third third team foul back into the fall is on them.
They haven't gone to his first.
Free approach 30s to play here in the first half.
But you want to hold for one shot.
Nope.
Brock.
He is guilty of the travel.
It's not a surprise that they went for that shot.
Well, it looked like they were going to hold shooters.
Got to shoot.
And that'll be the Wolverines.
Turn to hold skates.
Couldn't get into one of their sets.
And a foul will be called on you.
And that is.
That's his third.
His third foul.
Well, what you want just before the half court of coach to the foul is going to get him out of there.
And personal foul for the now ten.
And seal will come at a check.
Yeah.
We'll check into the game for you.
And they say.
It's only the third team foul.
It comes probably a high screen.
Slipping on the floor and the contact.
And looked like, as much of a slip as a different best do so John tangle MSU will pick up his second foul and leave.
That's only for.
Shot put up as time expires.
No good or not, brings the first half of play to a close with the escape.
Wolverines leading the Saints of Saint Dominic Academy 18 to 16.
We'll be back right after this.

Back here at the, Cross Insurance Center as the sportsmanship banners have been handed out here at the the, halfway mark of the class D boys state championship game.
State skank leads it by two over Saint Dom's 18 to 16.
And kind of alluded to it at the end of the first quarter.
Is this where Schanke wants the game?
Well, I think, you know, I think both teams are, you know, can't be too terribly disappointed.
Both teams have had opportunities in that second quarter.
There was a lot more flow, to the game than there was.
The first quarter was kind of choppy.
Let's take a look here that we haven't seen.
Great shooting on the part of the team.
Only shooting 40% free throw shooting is down as well.
And, turnovers are up.
So both teams really want to do a better job, shooting the basketball, obviously, and having, fewer turnovers, which gives them more opportunities.
And, you know, you got to do something about your free throws because, you know, late in the game is going to that can spell the difference.
Both teams off to a pretty slow start to kick off the game as each was pretty slow to slow to get onto the, onto the board from the field.
And neither team really had a lot of a lot of shots either.
All right, Jim Bain standing by.
Jim, we have another very good.
Well, you know, guess what.
Five gold balls in.
It's a historic well it's basketball history right there.
1950, 71, 72, 94 and 2010.
I got several members of the 2010 team right here are Brandon Terrio, Eric Terrio and, Cody Levasseur.
15 years boys, it's been since you want to go, baller.
How's that?
How's the numbers add up to you?
How does that feel there?
It feels it's been a while since, you know, we've been back in here, but it's, it's good to see the young boys here right now playing.
And they're doing a good job and had a good having a good season.
Eric, when you see the guys playing out there, do you think, oh I get it done that I can't do that.
What are your thoughts out there?
Oh we still all get in the gym.
So it is what it is.
But it's it's good to see these guys compete and get down here.
I've already lost my voice because I've been yelling so much, so I'll do my best to answer questions.
Okay.
Brendan, tell us about some of your favorite memories of playing with your brother and these guys.
Playing with these guys, man, we grew up.
This was the goal.
Every year we've had, a couple of teams make it here.
Over the years since we've been here.
And, it was 16 years after when we want our state championship, and it's 15 years since then.
So hopefully that's the lucky number for these guys.
Yeah.
You guys got to play at the old Bank auditorium a few years before they close it down here.
Now, you see this place got a preference?
New Cross Auditorium.
Any any feelings on that?
I like this arena.
We played at the, Augusta Civic Center when we won state.
Same kind of arena as this.
And I like the more spacious.
We like the older, auditorium.
It was always awesome playing there.
A lot of memories, a lot of history in the gym.
So it's cool playing there.
But these gyms are nice, too.
All right.
Cody, so your dad was, terrific coach there, for staying here.
Give us this is your opportunity to pick on him right now.
What?
Do what he got.
Got some Steve Levasseur stories right there.
I got a lot I probably shouldn't say, but, No.
You know, he was.
He was a rough, rough on us.
But I tell you, he made us out the the from boys to man.
In a sense, you know, and, he taught us a lot throughout the years.
And, he was a good influence on us.
And he was just, he was hard, but he was.
He was good to us.
The only guy to be a few seconds.
You agree with that?
Does he make you any life lessons you learn from him?
I mean, basically tough nosed mentality.
I love everything about coach.
I still see him all the time, and he'll be coach me forever.
All right.
Very good.
Gentlemen, thanks for joining us.
Your 2010 skank Wolverines.
Well, that was our last go ball.
They may have won today.
Right back to you.
All right.
Thank you very much, Jim.
We are at the half and we'll be back with the second half of play in just a moment.

Each team has finished their halftime warm ups and breaking the huddle are the Saints of Saint Dominic Academy out of Auburn.
They're the skank Wolverines, and we are moments away from getting the second third half of play underway.
The Wolverines leading it 1816 looking for their fifth Gold Ball.
We have two in class B, one in class C, one in class D and Saint Dom's, looking for their first ever gold ball in basketball.
Certainly, powerhouse schools in hockey and baseball.
Well known for hockey over the years.
Yes, we are underway.
The Wolverines will have the ball to start this second half and they have the two point lead.
A little more pressure right off the bat coming from Saint Dom Osborne with the floater off the glass no good and slapped out into Atkinson's hands.
Grounded out no good.
And the rebound is lost out of bounds.
You can see the Saint Dom's has ratcheted up their pressure.
A lot more pressure on the ball in that very first possession.
This going to give them some pressure of their own.
That 2 to 1 Marty brings it up.
Marty does a good job of taking care of the ball.
They lost it anyway.
Miscommunication there with UMD.
So Schanke will get it back.
They look to build on the two point lead.
Shutting down the lane.
Jacobs.
Off the glass.
Nothing there.
Good look.
That time by Jacobs, unable to convert.
Carney, work it over to John de.
Bottled up in the lane.
The shot is off the glass for two.
For two.
Now the NSU.
First basket here in the second half.
We're all tied up.
Just trying to work off the screen is Osborn.
I will kick it out and leave it to Harlan.
We've.
That's going to be on the now tangling and that's you.
Let's take a look at that last two.
Now that's the nail.
This second point blank range uses the glass.
And now just picked up the foul.
That is his second of the game.
Jacobs with the ball on him Taylor Vine.
Kitchen gives over to gonna go Anya spins along the baseline.
Keeps the dribble works underneath.
Cannot get the layup to go on.
Winding the rebound.
Gone.
Just been extremely effective around the basket.
Good footwork plays off the two feet.
Always has good balance driving into the lane.
Atkinson nothing there.
Rebound.
Jacobs with a hand on it.
Ball comes out.
Wiman the shot.
Nothing.
Atkinson saves it.
Oh nearly saved it from going out.
But I would think that Coach Hutchins has to be pretty happy with his team's efforts on the board so far.
Oh yeah.
It's it's all even basically.
And but right there another another blocked shot that time by, Danielle.
Carney with the ball drives to the left side of the lane.
Top shot.
Nothing there.
Rebound.
It's loose and picked up by the six one day.
Great hustle play there by one.
It is a tough task on this end of a floor two as he picks up Braden Osborne.
So Saint Dom's has gone out to a two point lead.
Osborne is used to getting a lot more shots and he is to the Schanke again, looking to get on the board.
And over and back.
So the Wolverines, which have trouble getting started.
Nearly three minutes into the second half of play.
They're looking for their first point.
Saint Dom's with the ball.
They've scored for.
Brockington.
Gets it to go.
Rocky Brucie on that shuffle.
Cut.
And a nice little five foot jumper front there on a nice regional tournament 15 and 13 points.
State.
Dom's is kind of changed their approach here.
They're not going into their 131 up two scores.
They're sticking with tight more aggressive Man-To-Man.
Atkinson gets it out to Osborne.
It's off the screen.
Takes it over to Wyoming.
Really tight defense being played two tight there as Brucie is going to be whistled for the foul.
That is his third number 14 point.
Those reaching fouls and the team's second to second team foul here.
This third quarter.
Atkinson will put it into play.
Jacobs Atkinson.
Sessions are getting important as we approach the halfway mark of the third quarter.
Contact out is not.
Raises the voices of fans on either side and the ball is just stripped away.
Take it away by the Saints.
Driving into the lane body with the left hand.
Nice shot by Barney.
Attack and finish with the left hand.
Saint Dom's up by six 2418.
And still, Schanke not able to connect from the floor here in this second half, folks, the crowd takes a full timeout.

Take a look at the last basket by Sync Dance.
Watch for any right to left.
Splits the defenders and a nice little left handed jump hook.
Marginalize.
So the Wolverines will bring it up again.
They have yet to score here in the second half.
They're back to the 131.
Not as extended this time.
The cross-court pass is picked off by Hyundai.
Ill advised Barney kicks it over to you on day with it now is tangled and that's, you know good you one day with the offensive rebound the now tangling mouse here and now it is Osborne with the ball from Atkinson into the lane.
Nice fake shot.
Nothing there.
Ball out of bounds.
Last touched by the Saints.
Boy 5050 balls are at a premium right now.
There's a lot of loose balls a lot of action.
Both teams are really good at tracking down 5050 balls.
Going to the bench is Gavin Gagnon for the Wolverines.
Back in his Gage Brown.
Osborne drives in and we've got whistle.
Officials are looking at each other.
And the foul is going to be called against Saint John's.
Take a look at it.
Here comes number five Jonathan Pang comes to his third team's third.
Osborne driving and picks up the foul.
Though Atkinson off the baseline, still cannot find a bucket here in the second half.
And a nice drive.
Saint John failed to help on the drive.
Bonnie with a acrobatic try harder and can't get you forever.
He can right now with the ball.
He has ten in the game averages.
Just over 14 on the season.
Team up by eight.
Largest lead in the game for either side.
Around the shot.
Nothing.
Let's see if Barney can create yet another opportunity for him.
Or his teammates can use the high screen he will take taken three.
It looked like it was deflected.
Maybe by Atkinson.
Ball is loose and taken down by island and he pushes it off the glass for two.
And another 5050 for King.
Goes to the benefit of the second save.
Big play.
2818 The Saints have.
Stretched it out to a ten point lead as we take a look at the action just a moment ago, and the way the game has gone, ten points seems like a lot right now, but Schanke has, firepower.
They can get right back into it for future.
This money available right?

Anybody that was watching last night's, messalonskee Falmouth game that was at no.
1010 points is doable, and it doesn't take much time.
I'm sure you know, Coach Hudson's just, have him look, just refocus.
Do what you're doing.
Play the way you usually play.
You don't have to panic right now.
You can't come.
Come back in one possession.
Nearly.
Take it away by Barnes.
Hale into the game for the Wolverines.
Number 20.
He gives off now.
The Osborn.
Osborn into the corner.
The three.
No good by Wyman.
That was a good possession.
Got a wide, wide open shot by their best scorer.
Rumbling knocks the basket in and Glover trying to go.
Defensive transition a problem right there for the Wolverines.
Watch this.
It hit a head pass.
Eyes up by Barney always looking ahead.
Finds Jerome Bay running the floor.
Finishes with the layup.
Now a chance for a three point play.
Osborn picks up the file.
That's just his first on the line to shoot is Isaac.
He one day he makes it to the three point play he was one.
But he comes out.
He's got the three fouls.
And now a third.
And again it's Ben 6.5 minutes in this first in the second half brother and skank is yet to score a bucket.
Yeah they've had they've had books.
Last possession was really good.
Opportunities from the corner just have not been able to put it in the hold.
See what they can convert here.
Find themselves trailing now by 13.
Give Saint Thomas the opportunity to play their 131 in the half for Osborn with the dribble the pull up jumper around it out coming down.
The rebound is to now ten tangle LSU.
That's a shot that normally for bigs yes.
And we've got a foul is going to be called on Hale.
Hunter Hale picks up his second number 20.
Hunter Mayo in the second and the team's second.
Just 33 seconds left to play here in this quarter.
That's only the second foul.
Referees were against the Wolverines.
Sam Jacobs checking back in.
Osborn has a seat spect he won't be there long.
Thank you.
MSU hands off to Varney.
Varney.
It's really been the playmakers here in this at half thanks to the NSU.
Off the glass two strong.
Weimann gets it up.
Brown streaks in from the left side.
And finally it is under 10s to go.
The Wolverines have the first bucket here in the second half.
Real nice transition basket by the Wolverines.
Long three off no good.
And the third quarter comes to a close.
Saint Dom's leads it by 1131 20.
They'll step aside to be back in a moment.
Production of high school basketball on Maine Public Television is made possible by people like you and by having free college.

Here at the Cross Insurance Center, Brant Stevens, along with coach Ken Glen, lost All Roads director Andre Cormier at our table.
Producer Mister Kirk Chadbourne is.
Yeah, they came out of the locker room with the really high intensity defensively and they changed the.
They changed the course of the game with their intensity and seemed to try to go for the jam but was fouled.
Foul play backdoor play three.
Oh nice bounce pass on your that's his second at the line 2 to 3.
Foul on Gavin Gano.
That is a two on gone.
You guarantee on the line to shoot two.
And he misses.
Isaac Johan De is back in the game.
And basically the flame has come in.
Second foul shot off the mark.
So those are two here in the fourth quarter one for four overall.
In the quarter it goes to Atkinson.
The ball is picked off by Vardy.
But he steps on the sideline.
Good anticipation there by Taylor Vardy.
The senior.
Yeah.
Varney had an excellent third quarter offensively finding the seams making shots.
You see where the lengths of the Saints come into play with those passing lanes there.
They are getting their hands and a lot of those passing lanes deflecting passes knocking it out of bounds stealing passes.
And, you know, little guys get tired as the game goes along.
The big guys don't get any shorter.
And a block there by Brucie.
Atkinson off the glass and the whistle.
Saying Dominic Ball is going to be on Aiden Rahn.
That is his second personal foul at the line for the Wolverines.
Cameron Atkinson on the line is Cameron Atkinson.
And we have a warning, for that was a flop.
Flopping a ball point has been issued to the same company, same.
On the line is Atkinson off the glass?
Every point is important right now for Schanke.
If they want to mount a comeback to.
Had concern.
Five points.
Now in this game.
That one off him on.
Saints pushing it up.
Barney.
Rocky.
Kick it out to Le Flame.
And we've got a foul whistled against the Wolverines.
Going to be gone here I believe.
By his reaction I would say so.
Number 34 down the.
That is third foul on gone here.
Not sure about the call because there there was no harm there.
Pass comes into the flame and again steps out.
Vardy steps on the sideline.
Yeah.
Brockie drove up to his feet and passed the ball.
Didn't seem like there was anything that the defense gained an advantage.
So now back in there 131.
They haven't really been able to trap too much out of it.
Ten point deficit for the Wolverines as they possess the ball.
Looking to cut into this Saint Dons lead.
Shanks been really well prepared, breaking this 131 in the shot.
No good.
Osborne kicks it out into the corner.
Brown shot nosed.
Nothing there.
It's lost out of bounds.
Just can't hit right now.
Wolverines are AU from the three point area.
It's two.
See a little flame going to the bench?
Checking back in is the now tangle.
Unless you.
Mentioned skank has done a nice job with the 131132.
Oh, yes.
Once the big one.
Pressure.
And, they've done a nice job on the boards.
The only thing they haven't been able to do is that right there.
Score here John Jay effective yet again around the around the paint.
So now it is an eight point lead for Saint John's.
They have the ball in under six minutes to play.
Rocky soft shot from the lane.
No good rebound pounded down onto the ground and by John Tangle.
And that's you.
But it's out of bounds.
It'll be skank basketball.
Jacobs comes back in for the Wolverines and Atkinson will sit down.
Let's take a look at gonyea again.
Off of two feet.
Uses his body to shield the shot blockers and finishes.
Brown with it in the right side.
Ball knocked out of bounds.
Again.
We're seeing the length of the Saints coming into play.
Is tangle.
And Sue Darnell was able to get a hand on it and knocked it out of bounds.
Osborne.
Working around.
And there's a corner pass underneath.
Wideman shot nothing there.
He was certainly aware of the defender.
Yep.
Defense bothering him again.
He wasn't able to get a clean look.
Armani up pulls it out.
Now drives into the lane heaves it underneath and Osborne picks it up.
Nice pass up ahead to Brown and lays it in for two.
Oh almost had it stolen.
Almost had it blocked a nice finish like that.
We're back to a six point game.
Climbing back.
For Hardy.
Pulls the ball out near midcourt.
Rocky on him is Brown.
And we've got a foul on Gage Brown.
Brown.
That is his first foul.
Number 22 Brown.
Matthews first and 13 for.
Dayton has only one more foul to give before Saint Dom's will be shooting two free throws and out on one day.
Is Osborne your NBA shot?
Nothing, guys.
As hasty pass up ahead.
Jacobs lays it up and in to Garner.
It's a four point ballgame.
And the Wolverines have suddenly found the basket.
Stolen away by Osborne.
As poor miscommunication and a timeout Carl by the Wolverines coach Erin Hutchins wants to talk it over with his crew.
They have clawed their way back into this one, and they trail by four 3127 after being down by as many as 13 of a good, good timeout that time by Coach Hutchins.
Back in the game, Wyman with the heads up pass there for Jacobs with the finish is an easy layup.
Just like that.
Back into it.
This is a big possession right now in this ballgame.
You said it earlier.
That skank certainly has the firepower to get back into the game.
And they have shown that here.
But well they did it with defense.
And they've had some run outs and breakaway layups.
I think their last six points have been on breakaways just running the floor.
And that'll happen if if you send a lot of guys to the offensive glass, that means you're not getting back defensively.
Sometimes Saint Dom's is guilty of that.
It's 3118 at one point.
So skank off to A90 run here.
3127 now a lot of pressure.
Spinning away from the pressure is Osborne.
Now it is gonna Wyman in the corner.
Skank being real patient.
From the corner.
That one is short.
Rebound taken down by Osborne.
Travels a yard, dribbles out of traffic.
Pass underneath.
They'll kick it out into the corner.
Wyman the three ball.
Nothing.
Rebound taken down by Cornell.
Tangled up messy and a good possession by skank.
They had a shot.
They had an offensive rebound.
Unable to convert.
Rocky gives back now to Barney.
Barney.
Thank you.
Back out to Brucie.
Good patience right here by the Saints.
And they lead by four under three minutes to play.
There's a line.
It goes.
And he's got a time possession arrow scoring.
Here goes.
Jacobs with the layup Jacob Brown and Connor.
The Wolverines certainly do.
Looking to get within two or maybe one.
Got to commend the job that you want to be has done defensively on Osborne down here.
The shot no good leaves it way short.
Wyman saves it from going out of bounds.
But into the hands of the Saints.
Long pass up ahead.
Brown able to get a hand on it.
But last touch by Brockie.
So he's going to give the ball back now to the Wolverines.
Think for a number 11 Cameron Atkinson.
Atkinson coming back into the ball game for the Wolverines.
It's almost like the two teams went back to playing the way they did in the first quarter.
So score scoring is at a premium right now Lyman on the penetration.
We've got a foul on Saint John's.
Ball is going to be on John Tory right here on fourth.
They shoot.
Him all the way.
Foul.
Number four.
And John Taylor the MSU.
Osborne kicks it out to Atkinson.
Atkinson over to the corner to Brown.
Under two minutes to play.
Suddenly the Wolverines want to be patient.
And on the other hand they are down by four.
Every possession matters.
Osborne kicks it out to Brown.
They'll swing it around.
Atkinson looking for somebody.
Jacobs is there.
Jacobs into the lane.
Lays it up.
No good.
A lot of time expired and nothing to show for it.
Now tangling NSU timeout.
The timeout taken by Coach Joshua Crow about.
With 118 to play at a four point lead for Saint Dom's.
Saint Dom's has not scored at all here in this fourth quarter.
Both teams with a couple of timeouts.
Saint Thomas has two left and, Schanke has has three timeouts left.
High school quiz show Maine season eight is about to begin.
16 teams from across Maine are competing to see who will be this year's champion and bring home the $1,000 prize.
Tune in for the season premiere on Thursday, March 20th at eight, right here on Maine Public Television.
The eight skank heads a couple of long stretches where they could not put the ball in the basket, open the game and open the second half.
Now it is Saint Dom's turn here.
Open up this fourth quarter.
They have yet to convert from the field.
They get.
A look at some of the Saint Dom's fans who are here in attendance.
And Dom's again located in Auburn.
Already looking for someone under the corner.
It goes to you on day.
One day gives over to the shot.
Is missed by Henry and not for a big bucket there by one bay.
He's done the job defensively.
The nice bucket right there.
First bucket of the quarter for the Saints.
Still got time.
They need a good shot driving in the lane.
Left hander up and in by honors for for timeout.
State calls a timeout 52.2 seconds in the game.
Let's take a look.
From Osborne with the nice left hand and the finish just out of the reach of Taylor Varney.
Skank on their not that possession but your previous possession used up a lot of time.
It came up empty.
I think they're correct.
And being patient at this point in the game.
Now, of course, time is of concern.
She's going to have to, work hard defensively, get a deflection.
The tip up and next they can have one, foul left to give.
And then the shooting two.
Work on the offensive glass.
There's one bay.
But the follow you're on the as nine points in this game.
All of them coming here in the second half.
And they're all coming from right around the basket.
One day.
A strong defensive player of the all defensive team for the Western Conference.
But he has done their job here in the second half.
On the offensive end zone.
More pressure comes the double team and they get a foul on Jacobs.
Yeah that was their one to give.
And now after this it will be the bonus for the rest of the way.
And the teams for fourth team foul.
So the next foul by the Wolverines will send Saint Dom's to the foul line.
Pass inbound, and Rand has it stolen or knocked away into the hands of Jeff White and gets it to go under 33, 31.
30s to go.
Watch this.
Now here's a nice steal by Jacobs.
He finds, Wideman all alone under the bucket.
He converts.
That was a two point game.
3331 the far side here at the Cross Insurance Center.
Up and cheering their Wolverines.
They have come storming back here in the fourth quarter.
Outscoring Saint John's 11 to 2.
It's going to be some, pressure free throws being shot here.
I think you'll see.
Defense and free throws.
That looks exactly.
So the two keys to a championship.
And a foul is going to be called on Brown.
That will send you to the foul line number 22 Nate Brown and his second.
And for Brown that is foul.
Number two turning the ball over to the Saints.
Number 14 back Rocky.
I think they could have found somebody else to.
Yeah the foul.
And he misses it.
He's a 64% free throw shooter on the year.
But this is a team that doesn't shoot free throws all that well.
Second one around and out.
Rebound taken down by Sam Jacobs.
So the Wolverines with a chance to tie or take a lead just over 30s to play Osborne with the ball dribbles into the lane kicks it out to Brown.
Coaches trust his players not calling timeout now Jacobs now he takes it.
Timeout.
And the whistle.
The timeout taken by the Wolverine likes the possession as long as the ball was in Osborne's hands.
But when they started to, you know, pass it around, he needed a timeout.
3331.
Their words were prophetic, not pathetic, but prophetic.
When you said that skank has the firepower to come back in this game, and they have done it, and they did it with defense.
And, in a transition game, throwing the ball over the top and finishing.
Saint Johns has committed just two fouls here in this fourth quarter.
And we go back to an earlier, possession by Saint Dom's.
They ran a set play levers to open the floor for the backboard play by Barney.
He almost dunked it.
He got fouled.
Miss go free throw.
So they came up with an empty trip.
And then it was a long scoring drought.
For the Saints.
Only had two points this quarter.
Saint Dom's over four from the foul line here in this fourth quarter.
We are ready for the final 20s of this one at least.
Regulation.
As Osborne goes in.
Gives off into the lane.
It's knocked away and it's taken down by Saint Johns.
There.
Those quick hands again.
And that's their game defensively getting deflections and loose balls.
It's going to be a free throw.
What's this number.
Can you burn some corner drives.
Keep it coming from behind with the tip.
As Barney Brown picks up the foul.
It's going to be Jonathan Bagley makes you one on the free throw line is one for two in this one.
With.
Fournier he's a 54% free throw.
This is for the year.
8.1 seconds Schanke has no timeouts left.
Second one is up in the air and it's a three point game.
Mission is pretty clear and need a three closing seconds of this one.
The shot put up short.
And so Gomez wins their first ever state championship in basketball.
Oh.
The Saint Dominic Academy Saints celebrating here.
The Cross Insurance Center as they win this one 3431.
Well, Schanke had the ball in the hands of their most dependable performer.
And that's Osborne.
Took a shot from three, a little a little deep, and it was just short.
Players going through the handshake line.
As we mentioned before, these two teams know each other from their play summer camps.
Yet both coaches have a ton of respect for one another as well.
So yeah, you could tell that we talked to him earlier, both of them, the way they talk about each other and each other's programs and what each coach has done with each of these programs, as you said, great.
Just a great deal of respect.
You the way it is, a great game in terms of, you know, intensity, hustle, desire, all of that.
Both teams gave everything they had.
You see, Taylor Varney going over and hugging Wolverines coach Aaron Hutchins.
And again, they know each other.
They they said in those summer camps, they hang out together in the dorms and.
But it is the Saints, Saint Dominic Academy with the wind here.
3431.
Taylor Varney on one end and on the other end.
John Tangling MSU.
The awaits now for Vandy to take down the nets and let the swinging begin.
Now the each player will go up and, take a turn as the flame and breaking.
Don't get a chance to do this very often, so take advantage of it.
Yeah, exactly.
And, for Saint Dom's, the very first time ever.
That's it.
You can add a gold ball to a trophy case that is filled with nothing but hockey championships and a couple of baseball ones, too.
Lately.
Congratulations to the Saints.
Moment will be handing out some of the, hardware.
Including the gold ball.

The environment is just awesome.
Great campus, small close knit community.
Everyone's very welcoming.
Everything feels very personal.
To feel like you belong here.
There you have the Saints, the class D boys, state champs here at the Cross Insurance Center, Taylor Varney with the Gold Ball.
Varney was the leading scorer in this one, the only player in double digits.
He had ten points.
Nine for Isaac.
You one day now the other side leaving.
Leading the way for the Wolverines was Kevin John U with nine points of his own, and now Jim Baynes with the newly crowned champs.
A long history at say Dominic's Academy.
Very first state championship.
We're going to go with the seniors right here.
First of all, Jonathan, congratulations here.
I'm sure you've been told a lot of times you guys never want to go bald.
You're finally going to have it this year.
What do you I'm not going to ask you what you say now, but give us your general thoughts on how excited you are.
I mean, we changed history at Saint Dom's, like, this is it?
Yeah.
That's true.
Yeah.
Like you said, we created history.
This is.
This is just.
It's just crazy.
I don't know what else to say.
Very good.
Jack, you know, your thoughts of planning, for this week against us, skank and, how you took him down?
We knew they were going to be really strong defensively.
We've seen them.
We've seen them play, and they like to slow, slow their teams down.
And we're a fast paced team.
And they they did a good job.
But we just came out on top Isaac.
To win one state in going out here.
Right.
You thought about that.
All right.
It feels amazing.
So monumental moment for Saint Dom's.
Saint Dom's basketball is great to be here.
I'm glad to do it with this team.
There you go, Taylor.
How's that feel?
Right.
It's a great feeling.
I mean, I don't think it's really set in for me yet, but it feels amazing.
The way we celebrated, the way our fans reacted to us.
It's a great feeling.
I mean, they made it tough on you in that fourth quarter.
You guys handled that fourth, third quarter beautifully.
You outscored them 15 to 2 in the third.
I don't know if you knew that they outscored you 11 to 3.
What was that.
What was the difference.
What do you think the difference was in the way the kind of took over their championship?
I mean, I don't know, I think that had to make a comeback.
They were down, but we just had to stay disciplined, execute what our coaches were talking about.
And ultimately we we hung on to the field.
I know the scoreboard was very different between the third and fourth quarters.
Did it feel that different out there?
Yeah.
For sure.
You know, they were in desperation mode, but it felt like we weren't.
We were too.
And, you know, there was a lot of pressure on us trying to keep this lead.
Yeah.
Very good.
All right, let's get to our coach in here real quick.
Coach it.
Yeah.
You got, you got a submitted legacy there, coach.
And you're going to go down as a coach.
You finally brought a gold ball to Saint John's.
Yeah.
What does that mean to you?
I'm going to give all the credit to these guys.
They make me look good every game.
They play hard every day that we're in the gym and they work hard, they've got so much better.
There's so easy to coach.
All the credit goes to those guys.
I just I just push the buttons, but they've got to do all the work.
So.
Yeah, they're going down.
Well, I mean, you push a lot of buttons in the third quarter, and then Schanke did in the fourth there.
What did you see different?
How did the flip flops so quickly?
We just came out.
We were ready to go in the, third.
And then, the basket got real small in the fourth quarter, and we couldn't score.
We got great looks.
Guys were getting it to the rim.
And credit to defense, they played really hard in the fourth quarter.
And then we, I told Jonathan when he went to the line, we only need one.
We just need one.
I don't care which one it was.
And he got it for us.
So, if you're going to tell me we're going to go down to the wire and Jack is going to get two free throws, and John's going to get two free throws, I'll sign up for that.
Every game.
We going to get Jonathan TV time on that two.
That's not an easy thing I mean you work on free throws all the time.
But to do it in this environment, that's a difficult thing to do.
How do you stay cool?
I just I literally said to myself, you do this all the time.
It's just like you're in the gym.
There's nobody else here.
It's just me, you know?
All right.
Very good.
Well, guys, congratulations.
Bring it in here.
I don't know if you've seen this on TV, but this is how we do it here, guys.
Tell the camera what it's like to be first time state champs.
It's great.
Oh.
It's great.
Thank you guys for not sure they knew how to respond to that one.
So congratulations to, Saint Dominic Academy and the Saints.
They finished the season at 21 and won this game at Wolverines at 20 and two.
We've got more high school basketball coming your way on Maine Public Television.
The class girls, Cheverus and South Portland at six.
And then the boys Cross Insurance Center, Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Windham and South Portland and then here at the Cross Insurance Center.
Penobscot Valley High School will take on Halliwell for the girls Class C championship and will wrap it up here.
It's Cross Insurance Center with Madeline Cook and Mount Abraham squaring off against one another.
Final thoughts on this one, coach, before we close out.
Well, you know, we couldn't ask for a more dramatic game.
Wasn't always, beautiful.
It was.
It was gritty.
Not pretty.
But that's what both teams bring, with them.
And, each basket was hard fought and well earned.
It was indeed an ugly game, like Coach Hutchins said he was looking for.
And they did a lot of things right.
The Wolverines, they just could not put enough points on the board.
3431 the final Saint Dominic's winners over the state Wolverines for my broadcast partner Kevin Wooden lost and all the broadcast crew here at Maine Public Television.
Our Brian Stevens, thank you for joining us.
A lot more basketball coming your way.
