And good evening, everyone.
Yes, this is state championship weekend.
We are excited to be here.
We hope you are excited to watch at home as we've got two fine teams here tonight to kick this thing off as we have the Mount Ararat Eagles and the Hamden Broncos, two teams that earned their way here.
I'm Dave Cheever along with Karen Magnuson.
Our flood reporter Ethan Snow.
We're going to have a great night here tonight.
And it starts right now.
It's going to be really exciting.
You just there's so much energy already in the building and we're just getting just getting started.
And it's been old home week.
Yeah.
We come in here and we see friends that we haven't seen in quite a while.
And there they are into this as well.
Good student support.
Got it.
Got the bands working in here.
The two coaches who know and like one another.
These are two teams.
It's going to be a lot of fun to see how this turns out.
I'm excited to see, you know, who comes out and hits that big first shot and gets going for their team.
All right.
We have Ethan Snow standing by and he had a chance to chat with the coaches.
Standing by here with coach Julie Petrie.
Coach.
It was quite the gantlet to get through your regional tournament.
A couple of really, really close games.
How was that prepared your team to be better off for tonight's state game?
I think just a grant that we, you know, in adversity, obviously we didn't play our best starting out, but our hope today is to play our best in the most important game.
First time a mount Ararat basketball team has been at the state game.
What was the vibes this week and the preparation for this team, and how were they feeling coming in tonight?
Community support has been outstanding.
Obviously you can see all the blue, you know, the excitement around it and just, you know, regardless of the outcome, the support and the the hype and the kids are just so excited to be here to see what we can do.
All right.
Thank you very much, coach.
Good luck tonight.
Back to you guys.
Thank you very much Ethan.
One of the things that obviously Julie Petrie, he's glad to be here and she could not be more proud of her kids and how they behaved all season long.
And getting to this point, she knows they're ready.
And, you know, a coach can sense that, right?
Yeah.
And that's a testament to her.
I've I've been able to coach against her and seen her coach.
She's someone that's fun to watch.
It's great to watch her on the sideline and see how much energy she gives that her kids feed off of.
And when you see some of her kids playing, we're ready for that.
Ethan has also had a chance to chat with Nick Winchester, who's got a team in here tonight that would like to go home with a gold ball.
Standing by here with Henry.
Coach.
Nick Winchester.
Coach.
What a run through the regional tournament for a very young team going up against.
You had to beat the defending regional champions just to get to this game.
Get to the regional final.
And here you are in the state final with a very young team.
How has been the journey for this team and are they ready for this moment?
We were just talking to Kevin Magnussen about that.
Know we start out the season four and four and we had a new component to our team and the transfer, and Grace LaBrie was new to the group and we are starting basically three sophomores.
It just took us some time to find our rhythm.
For those kids to go from being sophomores to, you know, 12, 13 games in the season.
We're now juniors, right?
And we're starting to play a little bit more mature.
I just think, you know, we're on a run now.
We won 12 or last 13 games, and it's just a sign that they've hit their stride at the right time.
What were the vibes and the preparation this week going up against a really good Mount Ararat team.
Look it was the same same preparation we had for Cony.
I mean they play the very similar style.
They play a almost exactly the same intensity defensively.
For us, it was just continue the preparation that we've done for Cony preparation we did for Camden Hills.
So for us it was kind of business as usual.
We'd have to change anything we were working on.
All right.
Thank you very much Coach Cook tonight.
Thank you very much.
Back to you guys.
Thank you.
Thank you Ethan.
And you're looking in at the Hamden Broncos team huddle as in fact, both teams are doing it right now.
The last instructions from the team captain.
This is such a cool moment.
These kids have worked so hard to get to this point, and I just I love watching the leadership and seeing how much that they want this.
And this is what they've been working for the entire year.
The road to the gold has come to this point, and they really.
As you can see, you know, you've got Matt Eric coming in as the one seed.
But again, nobody expected Hamden to be here.
They're coming as a three.
Everyone thought maybe they'd be Lawrence.
We know if you listen to his interview, he's spot on.
They're young and they fought all year long to get this experience.
And in the biggest moments, they've come in and they've won some of their biggest games.
And.
And here they are.
And then you got Mount Ararat for them.
This has been what they've been working for.
But I love Last Gold Ball.
We haven't had one.
And this is what they're fighting for for the community.
The teams have been called to the respective benches.
We're going to have the introduction of the entire rosters and then the starting lineups.
Let's go now to David Hopkins.

And now fans we ask that you all please rise as we honor our great country with the playing of our national anthem.
The anthem being played tonight by Hamden Academy Band, led by Jason Priest.
And.
And a gentle reminder.
This is game one of two.
Tonight, boys.
Game following this one is going to be kind of a fun thing to watch to Messalonskee and Falmouth.
But this one here.
I watched a lot.
And so did you of the, the the preliminary games to get through to this point.
And we have some girls here we can play.
Oh, they compete so hard.
Both teams do well for what their team is asking them to do.
I think this game is going to be interesting because both teams have different paces.
You have Mount Ararat who really wants to pressure, get steals, get out in transition.
You have Hamden.
Who's going to want to slow it down, keep it in the 30s and 40s and control it in the half court.
So it'll be interesting to see who gets to start off the way that they want to.
Neither team is expected to come in here and be at all nervous.
I mean, certainly Hamden has been on this floor and and so they've they've got the sightlines down.
They know what the crowd looks and feels like.
And from out here at the come in here, they've they had a good run in the southern Maine tournament.
This is, this is what they've been working for for the last 110 days.
Here we go.
Eve Lyles gets the opening tap comes back to Murphy Murphy tries to go inside.
It's going to go out of bounds.
Gets a nice try.
But Kate Adams couldn't quite control it.
It'll be a mount Ararat basketball.
You'll see a lot of that.
They like to go back door.
They like to pull their offense up above the foul line.
Be watching.
The ball handle is from Mount Ararat.
Here's one of them.
Kennedi Langford 030.
Attempt Carly Palmer long.
She can shoot it for this season.
She was shooting 51% from the three point line.
Can't leave her open.
Well and where you were talking about what the defense looks like.
And we're going to have a foul on the steal.
That's a start that you want to have if you're Mount Ararat to get Pomerleau to get a wide open three read great rotation whether whether the zone defense could extend out far enough.
If Pomerleau is going to make that shot, they're going to have to.
Yes.
Langford comes to Allen, so we'll get around to Pomerleau again for three.
Grace LaBrie down to the rebound.
And I think good chance Mount Ararat will concede the rebounding.
Yeah her.
If they're going to spread out the floor like that.
Murphy steps on the end line and see that's what pressure does.
Great time.
Nick Winchester wants a timeout.
Great timeout for the second time.
What he's going to be discussing right now is any time that you press it makes it a lot more difficult for a team to get into their half court sets.
And you got Hamden coming down and they're shooting the ball or trying to make an entry pass into the paint within eight seconds of coming over, when they typically want to slow down and hold on to it for 15 20s and move the ball around.
And now that that question of how far out do you want to go if if they're going to be spaced out like that and and Pomerleau and Allen, they're going to take the long shot.
Yeah.
And you pray that they don't go in and stay where you are.
That's why they didn't come out and contested it.
Yeah.
You're aware but little Julie Petrie happy on the far side.
Well to start it out well, Nick Winchester wants his kids settle down and here we go on the dribble.
Jensen DiCamillo and Allen Allen steps around LaBrie, puts it up and in nice patient body control to be able to finish that against her.
Here's the pressure hounding defense.
Follows Aubrey Shaw.
One of the youngsters for the Broncos a sophomore.
They're going to Murphy and she's going to run down.
Is Lampard good defense from out here right Murphy in the corner to whilst they go into La Brea La Brea up no good.
You guys know what a nice play by Allen and back come the Eagles.
Lampard she's Allen comes to Johnson.
Johnson's going to run down and she'll be knocked out of bounds.
And Mount Ararat is going to be taking those shots.
And if have to get close out and allow one shot and rebound they're going to be doing some really good things.
But you got to make sure that you get that board.
Jensen on the inbound comes to Allen Pomerleau.
They set the offense.
Jensen looks inside hands it off to Langford.
She'll put up the three if you let her.
Allen back to Pomerleau.
Pomerleau to Lambert.
She's going to let it fly short and ball can't be kept in bounds by Aubrey.
Shot remains Mount Ararat basketball 539 to play.
First quarter five point lead for the Eagles.
Carmelo holding high looks for Allen, brings it to her.
Off to Lambert.
Pomerleau again for three.
It's going to be short side put up no good.
And LaBrie comes up for the loose basket from three threes.
And they're pulling away that rebound.
They're going to have to make sure that they control those boards Murphy.
Adams LaBrie going for the rebound and gets tied up with Julian Allen.
And he's going to be called for the foul.
That's where they want the ball to go.
It's a great entry pass.
She had good possession.
She's just got to be careful not to follow that up after that point.
And she's going to the bench number 14 team volleyball team.
They can't afford for her to be on the bench.
She got to play smart for the rest of the South.
Jensen off to Lambert comes around to Carmelo.
Look for a little bit of room now.
Off to Allen.
Lambert looking to penetrate into Allen.
Bounce pass sent back out to Lambert.
She finds a little room for nice play by Jensen.
Hamden was very active in that defense right there.
Closing out quick getting their hands on the ball.
That was a great possession that they can build off of.
I mean, they call it the number one number.
Lambert gets called for the region fouls.
First team foul for Mount Aaron Murphy surveys the floor brings it across the halfcourt line.
Being bothered along the way.
Thanks to Kaylee Wagg great patience.
Nice defense.
On the part of Jenna Jackson it was great patience, but even a better block by Jensen.
Yeah, she's.
Keeping her eyes on that one.
That's one thing.
Mount airy has got great length, too many positions and it's going to be hard to get to the rim.
Kennedy, Lamport.
Foul in the back court.
Third team foul on Hamden.
Human foul.
The number 45 Caitlin I think they're communicating to get back on defense.
We're not looking to press.
We're not looking to get those steals.
We got to get back.
Get set.
Jensen to Palmer O'Connell looks inside.
Goes baseline classroom.
It did a great job shutting down that lane keeping their hands off that defense.
It's very effective if you're going to dribble into it at the moment anyway.
Yeah those last two possessions were very good defensively very active hands.
You can just see that pressure that mount errant runs at them.
It just making them have to attack and maybe go a little faster than they want to.
Ball looked in Shaw Shaw gets it off.
Wow great.
Nice left scoop.
Can you imagine she's a sophomore.
She's.
She doesn't play like one Allen back to Kennedy.
Lampard thought about going for the three finds little room for Jensen.
Too strong and a three.
And back comes Murphy on the dribble.
Into the lane.
Puts it up around the rim.
No good.
And Julian Allen one and done.
Back comes Langford on the run and carries the ball.
It's going to be a turnover on Mount Ararat I've watched Lampard play quite a few games now.
I just love her game.
I love how smooth she plays and she's a great passer.
You haven't seen a couple of her passes yet, but she can really see when players are making cuts and she moves the ball really well.
Kelly Wagg goes out and Avery Beal comes in for Mount Ararat and Lambert gets called on the reach and foul.
She was trying to bother Kate Adams as she's trying to make a play right.
You make the turnover and you want to come back and make a play for your team.
And that's what she was trying to do.
Make an impact and keep ball number two.
I think she was called more for the left hand on the back than the right hand.
325 to go.
First quarter first game with two in here tonight on Maine Public Television.
Baseline shot gets swallowed up.
Great patience on that pass.
Talia.
The prettiest job of playing a triple double.
Got there patiently for three.
Jensen looks inside to Allen, wants to go.
Comes instead to Pomerleau in the corner.
And round rim no good by Allen.
Eve Lyles kicks the ball ahead to Adams.
Peels back out of traffic.
They reset the offense.
They have good spacing here in the game for the Broncos.
Has the ball on the baseline.
Great ball out to wild.
Wild on the drive up.
No good teams with it.
Head Pomerleau.
Finds Allen Allen into the lane.
Up and in.
Great find and that's going to be careful now Mira not to settle for three sometimes unless your partner your partner will shoot it.
But look at Allen.
She's got great moves there.
And we're going to get a foul that maybe in the act of shooting.
Aubrey Shaw had a little bit of room to cut down the lane.
Jaylen Johnson Yeah.
How do you see a team farther with three Shaw at the line.
That dribble was just enough out French.
And I bet I can get the no.
First one no.
Good and coming on the floor from out here at.
Elena Willis the old lady in the group.
She's a senior.
One for two from the line.
And a one point lead for Mount Airy.
And Julie.
Peter wants a timeout, so she's the second time she's done a number of substitutions here.
Both coaches have get kids into the game.
Jocelyn.
We wanted to get the jitters out to the best of luck.
Hey season eight of high school quiz show Maine Returns on Thursday marked the date Thursday, March 20th.
Tune in to watch schools around the state match.
Wits compete for $1,000 prize this season.
Schools from Orono to Fryeburg to South Berwick will battle it out for that championship.
And the money all starts Thursday, March 20th at 8 p.m. on Maine Public Television.
I like watching Coach Petrie coach like I had a great time out.
I think she's going to be able to tell them this is what we want to look at offensively.
Or maybe she might have focused on something on defense, but I think you're going to find where their focus is going to be in these next two minutes.
Two minutes to go in the quarter, three team fouls apiece.
Julie Allen she's still a bit strong.
That one was on Willis.
Another three point shot attempt from the side and rebounding inside and tied up.
Jump ball.
Well that's lawyer who's a freshman yeah Mallory Lewis freshman freshman freshman sophomore sophomore Soph.
By this time in the season they're probably not friends.
They don't play like that.
No.
On the dribble Jensen Allen they bring it back around Carmelo is open.
They're smart to the defense.
Shutting that one down.
Jaylen Johnson inside to Allen Allen look for that back cut now takes it in.
Spin move and say she walked with it.
Oh I like that move.
Nice move.
The foot that's there.
But she dragged that pivot.
And right like the last couple possessions that's where they need to go.
We can get the inside out kick.
But we got look to Allen.
She's doing some good things inside while head to Adams Adams trying to find some room.
Adams plus five for three.
No.
And ball's coming your way.
Good play by Riley's right Hassan.
Flips the ball back but it goes right in the hands of Shaw.
Backs away.
They reset the offense in the corner.
Right side.
Nice play coming in.
And bring it.
Jaylen Johnson on the foul call.
And Kate Adams is going to go to the free throw line.
She had a great hesitation.
You saw her come in.
Almost looked like she was going to go right there and then hesitate step through.
Jaylen Johnson nice patience on that move.
Team foul number four Adams at the line shooting.
Nice attack of the basket approach.
She's not afraid to take it inside.
Well you could see Hamden right now is taking what they're giving them.
They're shooting some outside shots but they're really trying to attack.
They're trying to get to the rim and they're getting opportunities at this foul line.
If they can make some of these, we're going to see them start to separate a couple points.
Willis and Johnson go out.
Mag back on the floor.
There it is.
Good ball movement.
Oh good move.
And in Julian Allen and Hannah Allen moved and shifted her defender to the center to be able to drop stuff.
Great move.
On the run.
Oh nice play by Alan Ball goes out of bounds.
It'll stay in basketball.
Good defensive play by Allen.
The second or third block already in the first quarter.
Wiles to inbound.
Takes a look.
Another block by Allen.
Great athleticism Carmelo Pomerleau on the run and doesn't get it off in time.
And that's when they got it anyway we've reached the end of one quarter of play at the Augusta Civic Center.
The state class AA girls championship game nine six Mount Ararat over Hamden.
We'll be right back.

Great campus.
Small, close knit community.
Everyone's really welcoming.
Everything feels very personal.
Feel like you belong here.
It'll be a Hamden Bronco basketball to open the second quarter.
They trailed by three.
Ball comes in.
Shaw hands it off to Wiles.
Wiles.
Back to Adams.
Brother.
Shaw with it.
And again, we're going to get it.
Pushing foul.
Game being called pretty tightly, at least at the moment.
Yeah, I was trying to figure out if that was on ball, off ball, trying to figure out okay.
Wiles to inbound again on number one.
Murphy back on the floor for the Broncos.
She has it in the corner.
Juliana Allen defensively on her.
Get it back to Adams.
Adams drives on Pomerleau.
Brings it back to page Richard.
Page one for one from the floor.
And Tomlin is going to get called on.
A little foul on a hip check there.
And she didn't want it called.
Well this is the thing.
If you're Mount Airy you don't want these fouls in the halfcourt because then you can't pressure in the full court.
So you don't want to get in foul trouble, because then you got to change what your strengths are.
And that's pressuring them full court.
First foul on Carmelo.
And this is a game that you said Hamden wanted to play anyway.
Nice right.
Half court offense.
Oh great.
Look.
Good luck by Wiles.
Just a little bit too high.
Murphy couldn't control it.
Hollering instructions to the Eagles.
It's going to draw a lot of attention.
And that she'll make it that next time.
That's a great look.
Jenna Jensen comes to Pomerleau.
Points coming at a premium here.
Murphy with the ball on the steal.
They might have switched the defensive.
Might have gone man on that I'm not sure.
It's a great job denying Allen.
Well at the moment each team has more turnovers than baskets.
Both teams are working hard defensively.
They're being aggressive.
Adams shot into the lane.
She goes to the floor.
And we're going to get a tie up possession arrow.
And which way we're going to do here.
We got the whistle going and it's telling Carmelo to calm down a little bit.
She's muttering herself as she goes up the floor.
They don't like it.
They didn't get a foul called on that one.
Yeah, but I yeah, I like that.
I like that fight that both teams have right now.
They want this game and they're going to give everything they have.
Jensen.
Here back to Jensen Pomerleau.
How high.
Jensen took a look at three and two.
Takes her right to the basket.
High finish off the backboard.
It's a great shot.
And they needed that.
That was a high bank I think she was anticipating that Grace LaBrie was on the floor.
Get it over her.
Yeah it's good to practice that Adams Paige Richards is blocked by Jensen Juliana Allen picks up the loose ball.
Comes to Beal around to Pamela Pomerleau takes it inside but too strong.
Picks up the loose ball from the floor out of traffic.
And this time we're going to foul on Murphy.
You could see as soon as Pomerleau caught that she was recording she was going in attacking that lane.
She does a great job of knowing ahead of time the decisions that she wants to take on.
Number one, Kennedi Lambert back on the floor for Kaylie Wang for Mount Ararat.
Pomerleau to inbound to Allen.
Allen looks at Lambert now, drops it off to her.
And said back in the zone defense that you were talking about.
Yeah, I think they just matched up better on Allen that possession.
I thought they went, man, because they did a great job denying Beal hands off to Jensen.
Jensen back to Langford in the corner.
They go inside and out of Allen Allen finds a little inside room.
Creeps it up over the rim.
And that's what's going to happen if LaBrie is on the bench.
She's going to have the advantage inside.
Nice seal.
Great finish.
Well she's been there before.
That's obvious but good footwork.
Adams.
Closer down.
Wiles files.
Trying to find some room out here in the half court.
Good defense by Jensen.
She has to pick up the dribble.
Nice job keeping hands off with just great ball.
And Nick Winchester wants a timeout.
He wants a full one.
And I can see why he might.
He wants to have his kids his kids settle down a little bit more.
Yeah I think they just.
He just got a warning.
Yeah he was.
You're going.
Well I think he's wanted the timeout.
Could have got it.

I think I could be wrong, but I feel like he must have been calling for a timeout when they have that trap and didn't get it until she released out of the trap and got rid of it.
And I think he was frustrated.
So I got a warning.
But you know, again, why can't anybody here hear me?
I don't like that the kids are fighting.
The coaches are coaching like this is what it should be.
And a goal ball game, it doesn't have to be.
I love the excitement.
It will be up to full tuition, teaching leadership skills and give you a heads up.
Okay?
La Brea stays on the sideline with the three fouls.
You see her taking a seat 13 six.
Our score.
Take Mount Ararat with the lead.
But Hamden with the ball.
You're looking at a score like this.
The score favors Hamden in the fact it's a low scoring game, but they find themselves down.
Yeah Shaw gets the ball inbounds.
Lowers your back to Adams.
Looking inside to Murphy.
No.
Trying to find some room.
She gets to the baseline Murphy back out.
Hi to Wiles.
Wiles.
Big shot boy did they need Adams.
They need it back for three.
She is doing so.
Man was wondering.
Wiles was going to let one fly.
Yeah, but she had a great regional tournament.
She had a great shot.
There was composed Jensen penetrates and that two tries to out of the pack.
Nice play.
Oh ball tipped away.
Good play.
Keeping it alive by Lozier.
And ball goes out of bounds off Mount Ararat I think she originally saw a fast break.
She can get a two on one.
But they recover so quick and they get to trapping situations.
It's you know you're always wondering if somebody's behind me.
Are they coming after me I hear footsteps yeah.
Great defense.
Banana mallory Lozier with the dribble.
Comes to shore.
Shore Julianne Allen jumps out on her.
And there's a travel.
It's probably hard to see, but Mount Ararat really is understanding what hand is doing on offense.
They've been switching ball screens.
They know some of their sets of that, just going below it and beating them to the point they're doing a great job.
Coach has got them prepared for point lead for the Eagles.
They have the ball Jensen hands off to Pomerleau.
Pomerleau takes it back to the top of the key.
Hands it off to Kennedy.
Lampert.
They go to Jensen.
You see Allen calling for a shot.
Come on my side.
Lampert steps up and puts it up and leaves it short.
Loose ball picked up by Lozier, recovered by Jensen Lambert for three.
Doesn't get the bounce.
This are some great box outs.
Two people cleared the way for her to be able to go get that boards.
Shot comes cross court to Wiles wild spin dribble.
Hands it off to Adams.
Adams blocked by Kennedy.
Left.
They go baseline.
Again you know not here at defense.
Doesn't give them a lot of room Murphy drives on Allen swallowed up inside right.
Double team and you're going to get a whole ball.
It's going to be going to remain Hamden Bronco basketball.
Did you see her slide over where you can't see those on the weak side.
They had that covered as well.
We made 2 or 3.
Rotations to shut that off.
Nice defensive play by Pomerleau this fall comes to Adams Adams that patience closure comes to Wiles.
It'll head fake on Allen then thought better of it.
Come now to Wiles.
Drives on Allen, puts up the lefty.
Nice job.
She got that shoulder low.
You could see that last drop was a hard one.
Shoulder low to get by her defender to finish that.
She likes going to that left hand Jensen no good.
Gets her own rebound.
Puts it up and is push.
She will go to the line to shoot two.
Two point game.
Just over two minutes to play here in the first half.
Number 12 a while you can.
You're right.
This is this is a bounce a scoring level that hamden's comfortable.
Oh yes.
Like they want to keep it low you know.
And they were down by seven and they've cut it to two.
They're doing a great job of being able to get great looks on offense.
And then one shot trying to rebound on the defensive end.
Tell you about Everett's defense is stifled.
They are fun to watch as you see the twin sisters smoke that picture.
How cool is that.
Parents get a freeze frame that and take a shot.
Hamden down by three with the ball under.
Two minutes to play.
First half miles.
Great read.
Oh, and can't get the ball to drop in the basket and it'll be a mount Ararat ball.
Nice drive and hung it on the rim.
Hamden's offense allows that.
They open up.
They get everybody high that it's a harder rotation.
After shut down.
She just ripped and got to the lots of the paint on the weeks on that side that was wide open.
Jensen drives on while pulls it back out, loops it inside for wag.
Ball comes right to Jensen, hands it off to her sister.
How high to Pomerleau?
Pomerleau wanted to go.
Baseline stopped in there.
Good defense by Adams.
And we're getting a five second call on Pomerleau.
Another turnover.
Great defense Kennedy Lambert coming on the floor for Mount Ararat.
You know we're talking so much about Mount Air defense.
Like right there.
You had Adams who just was solid hands up capped her captains.
We're not going to the rim.
Get in that call.
Wild gets around Pomerleau puts it up.
No good.
Down to the loose ball.
Big surprise Juliana Allen Allen looks ahead to Langford.
Lampert drives now.
Looks for somebody in blue.
It's Allen into the lane.
Good read.
Oh she had it.
She lost it and fumbled as she was going.
You could tell she was going to rip that to her right.
You could see this dribble right there.
She knew she was going there.
She just couldn't pull it over, which made her have to try to pass.
So you come back up the call.
I hate this happen right there.
Murphy.
And someone's going to get call, whether it's Carmelo or Allen.
And again, a one for high set is sometimes really tough to defend because you got to go so far to help and those offensive players fell behind.
They could be open for shots a nice job creating space for drives Juliana Allen gets called for the foul.
Her first one she has what, four blocks?
Yeah, we counted.
Oh Murphy.
She could do it all though, She can.
She can ask Julie Petrie, tell the kids calm down.
Seconds to go.
First half.
One for two for the line for Murphy.
Senior drops back on defense for the Broncos.
Two point lead.
Eagles with the ball.
Jensen looks great.
Flag.
Travels well up with it as a great read.
Nice backdoor.
She gets here.
Just elevate elevate all of a sudden there's Cade Adams.
She has no place to come.
Nice play.
Closure drives on.
Pomerleau doesn't want to foul a double steal.
Nice play by Jensen.
Picked up by Pomerleau.
Got time under 10s.
Second quarter Allen for two.
No Murphy with the rebound and.
Oh a foul with three seconds left in that was on Jaylen.
Yeah I think what she was hoping for.
Oh there it is.
She's still moving.
But I think in one of the give it to her rather than right.
If she would have just gone more to her left.
But the fact that she stepped into her is what caused that to be a block.
That's a third foul on Jensen.
Willis back on the floor for the final couple of seconds.
We've reached the end of the first half of play.
If you already blazed a two point lead for the Southern Maine champion Mount Ararat Eagles over the Hamden Broncos got plenty of good stuff coming up.
Some really special stuff coming up.
Don't go away, folks.

We're at the half the Augusta Civic Center the class eight girls state championship game and 50 years ago can you imagine 50 years ago it was the first class AA state championship game.
And Ethan's got one of the participants standing by.
I sure do, Dave.
Standing next to me is Crystal Prew, who was a member of that Gardner High School state championship team.
The very first and Main Principals Association history.
Crystal, what does it mean to you to be able to catch up with some old teammates and then your old competitors as well, in that state championship game here 50 years later?
It's absolutely amazing.
Such an incredible event.
And a couple of weeks ago we got together at Gardner High School, which was a wonderful thing.
And this is bring back such wonderful memories of, well, I couldn't believe 50 years ago this all started.
And look at it now.
Fantastic crowd tonight.
Of course, over the of course, over the past 50 years, we've seen some great games.
Go back if you can go back and talk about a little bit about that basketball game.
How did it go?
We were the favorites were the underdogs.
How did I game go for you?
We actually were the underdogs in that game.
It was a really tight Eastern Maine championship, and when we came here to the Augusta Civic Center, we were the underdog team, not expected to be able to beat the shipbuilders.
But fate had a different plan and now we're part of the fabric of Maine girls basketball history, which is very hard to fathom when you're doing things you love but you don't realize that somewhere in history you are going to be putting an impact or a stamp.
And it's honestly, all my team that's up here is it was a it's a team sport for a reason.
And it's a wonderful thing.
Well, well Crystal, thank you very much for joining us.
Congratulations again and enjoy.
The rest of this game.
Should be in for a good one.
Thank you very much Dave.
Karen, back to you.
And thank you Ethan.
Nice touch.
Nice touch.
And I think they remember details from that game because this is the game everybody remembers.
Oh win or lose, you remember the details of what happened that day.
That was incredible.
Like a shout out to the NBA being able to pull that together.
And what I love is what she said.
We all met.
We went to Gardiner.
We were able to have those memories.
I just think it was incredible.
And guess what?
50 years from now, these two teams, they're going to be looking back in that same manner and we'll be greeting them.
I'm sure there's a look at the halftime.
Can anything jump out?
Well, you know looking at some of those stats it's the game I think is being played much slower than it wants to.
I mean you're looking they've only been to the free throw line or is it.
They took two free throws maybe.
So I don't think the game the pace of it's what they wanted.
They're still up two.
But we can't forget Hampton just played basically the whole half without La Brea.
I'm not sure that they gameplan for that and neither did maneira.
Well, and you got to figure she's going to be back on the floor at some point.
And that changes the dynamic, even if Don maybe reverts to the opening of the game.
But yeah they've now been out here.
The rest of the girls have dropped into there.
Now the adrenaline is still with them but shows the composure.
And you think that maybe that could have helped Hamden.
You have kids that all had to step into a little bit of bigger roles for a much larger time.
With that game.
You know, I know she was in foul trouble.
One of the other games, she's only sitting out a couple minutes, not a period and a half.
So that was interesting.
But you know, you're looking at if you're modern era, you got to talk about, listen, we got to stay out of foul trouble.
We got to keep hands off.
Let's try to make sure that we continue to pace, make this game go a lot faster.
But let's get traps and get steals on the pass.
We don't need to steal it on the dribble and have opportunities, but maybe we're getting called for fouls.
One of the things I'm looking at here is the girls are warming up for the third quarter, as a lot of Mount Ararat shots for the for the getting ready for the second half or outside the three point line at this time.
And they're percentages.
The make percentage is not real strong in the first half.
Not compared to what they've done coming into this game.
Right.
Well, you know Pomerleau can shoot it.
And you know her stats have shown that she can shoot it.
She's been shooting pretty decent in this playoff run.
I just think part of it's going to be can you get inside to Allen and can she attack La Brea.
Like can you get her and another foul.
Get her to the bench?
I think that could be a big focus for them, but also just being able to go inside and out to get those quality shots.
We have both teams on the floor warming up for the third quarter.
We'll have it in just a moment.

Join me, Todd Gartner for season eight of high school quiz show Maine, beginning March 20th on Maine Public Television.
Looking in on the Hamden Broncos as they get ready for the third quarter of play, they trail here by two Northern Maine Class AA girls champions.
Nice crowd in here tonight, Karen.
First game of two Messalonskee and Falmouth coming in for the boys game right after this.
And everybody is being treated.
We had talked before we even got on the air saying, gosh, you know, we hope we have a competitive game.
And so far, that's exactly what we have.
Oh, it's been exciting.
Everybody's.
You know, you could feel the energy that everyone's invested.
And we have great student crowds.
I don't know if we can eventually get a picture of it, but right now I mean mountain air at is filled their entire space.
You got Hampden, who's got a band that's been playing great.
This is what it's about.
This atmosphere, the energy, the excitement.
A lot of fun to watch.
I mean, look at this shot.
I love this shot, by the way.
But how great looking on the left and right side and all the fans.
You got all these kids that are here picturing that one day that they're going to play on this court and they they can't conceive of being back here 50 years from now.
I remember when, amazing.
All right.
We are just about ready for the third quarter.
Don't go away, folks.
Two point game.
State championship on the line.

Stick around for tomorrow.
We have C and D action from the Bangor Cross Center.
And we have B and double AA games coming up in Portland tomorrow at the Cross Insurance Arena.
We are underway in the third quarter.
Not air out with the ball in the lead.
Juliana Allen hands in fact for Kaylee Wagg for three.
High bounce.
But it doesn't drop.
You could see that first touch was go inside to Allen.
Adams finds Eve Wiles.
Great pass picked off.
Here comes Wagg.
She's going to get a good look at it.
Up and in.
And that's what they need pressure on to get the steals on those passes.
Shaw comes to Wiles.
Wiles crossover dribble takes it to the basket.
Up.
No good.
Juliana Allen down to the rebound.
Pomerleau took a look at WAG.
There it is.
Up and fouled.
That was a good look up court right from the get go.
The pace right the first.
Those 30s right.
There is a pace that Hammond doesn't want to play at the 20.
Aubrey Shaw gets called for the foul.
It's only her first wag at the line.
WAG gets a chance to move this.
Now to a five point lead.
She has another one coming.
Gets a pat on the back from Pomerleau.
Makes only the first.
Back comes Murphy.
Murphy hands it back.
Aubrey Shaw to come to wild.
Slips it into La Brea.
La Brea.
Turn is no good.
Soft touch from Kennedy.
Langford kept the ball alive and Juliana Allen picks it up.
She comes right side.
Takes a look.
Murphy closes her down into the lane.
Left hand runner.
No good.
Allen with the rebound puts it back up and she was looking for the foul.
Didn't get it.
But good offensive board.
You could see Allen trying to attack right now.
Trying to get La Brea with a foul.
I suppose that might have been talked over in the locker room.
Maybe Allen drives on Shaw, puts up the little right hand scoop that Deanna Allen a minute and a half gone and still Hamden having trouble.
Scoring here.
Holds it up.
Comes into La Brea.
She kicks it far side.
Adams Adams baseline happened no good wag down there.
The loose ball to Pomerleau.
Pomerleau.
Look ahead to Alan Allen.
Spin move.
Puts it up too strong.
Brea with the rebound.
One and done for the amount of red Eagles ball ahead to Adams to Murphy for three.
Oh no.
Pass it.
Nice play.
You saw like she wanted to shoot.
And as she was going to release she's like you're wide open.
So you could see her like throw it over.
I'm calling that an assist because I do think at the end I think it was a pass.
It was a great ball caught by Hamden.
Nick Winchester calls a timeout.
Broncos trailing by five here.
552 to go in the third quarter.
But the talk about is favoring the Mount Ararat eagles.
You see the shot and you see her head tilt like I'm going to her.
She will called for the ball.
Yeah.
That was a great play.
Now again.
They got that in transition.
But that's not what they want to do.
Hannah does not want to have to play and get their offense in transition.
They want this game to slow back down the school.
That's got to be something they're probably talking about about it.
All right.
Great job coming out and just attacking right from the get go.
A credit where you live for doing their coverage on the basketball tournament for hockey turns.
Everything they do.
Got a chance to watch all of these games to come into this.
And he has been impressive every game.
It's a sophomore a sophomore who doesn't play like a soccer.
But she does so many things for them.
You know, whether it's a big basket or a big steal or big rebound.
Like she just makes the play that her on court awareness on that play was great.
It was the kind of thing that you don't necessarily expect to see.
Allen spin move left.
Oh could that get any.
I think she challenged us.
I said she likes going left it back to her right.
Like no I got it up and over to.
What a move.
Shaw puts it up no good and flag down to the loose ball.
Kicks it ahead to Kennedy.
Lambert.
Jensen, look for the pass flag with it back to Lambert.
Lambert all of a sudden finds herself alone.
Puts it up.
No good.
Jensen.
No.
And put back up by Wague.
But knocked out of bounds.
And that's now their right has the size advantage.
They're doing a great job of their guards.
Your guards are great rebounders.
And you've got Jenna Johnson that comes and got the first one.
And then she ended up getting that one got blocked.
And two three opportunities I tell you what third quarter for stick it.
Yeah yeah.
Wague has been very impressive.
Oh nice play by Indiana Allen.
Knocking the ball off Aubrey Shaw's shins and out of bounds.
Who's the first person over there to say great job coach I love her energy on the sideline.
Yeah she prowls that sideline.
Lambert has ball knocked out of bounds I saw Pamela Will inbound again.
Got a close up look at Caitlin Murphy.
Allen with it now well outside the three point arc.
Patient dribble comes to Jensen Jensen throws it up.
No good kept alive are found with it is Lozier.
And it's a reaching foul.
You could say I mean that was just so smart by Wiles.
She wasn't going to be able to get it.
The ball was going more you know out further at just the tip to her teammate to get that rebound.
No call at the second foul on Pomerleau.
Personal foul.
If you ask her she's going to say she didn't even commit one yet.
Charged with two.
All competitors say the same thing.
Shaw in the front court watch by Wagg trying to find somebody in white.
Lampard staying right with her.
All of a sudden there's Juliana Allen.
Never mind I'm going to say no lines.
Nice doesn't drop.
Jensen off to Lampert.
Ahead to Pomerleau.
Pomerleau who thought she was going to go up to that.
Oh good move.
Step through.
It doesn't go.
It goes.
Steps out of bounds.
That will be a Hamden basketball seven point lead just about halfway through the third quarter.
She almost had a doubt.
It looks pretty.
There's some great highlights in this game so far.
And again they're trying to push the pace.
Carmelo Murphy gets by her Lambert almost steals the dribble.
Closure goes baseline.
Cut off by Juliana Allen comes out high.
Great Russia shot back to Wiles spin dribble.
And they're going to say it's going to remain Bronco basketball.
I'll tell you she's fun to watch.
She just she continues to work and work.
And if something doesn't fall she's going right back at it to attack again Avery Beal on the floor for Mount Ararat.
Ball comes in.
Lozier almost thrown away.
And now we're going to get a push foul on Kennedy Lambert.
Oh that's a tough one.
That's just a hustle play.
That nice play by Kate Adams saying help her off the floor one.
Didn't mean to lose her balance.
Here you go.
Watch this number 004.
I know how much you could do on that.
As a coach, you want to see your kids hustle, dive to the floor, Jensen.
The wiles.
Great defense by Hawks.
Murphy drives on Jensen cut off and now stolen by Jensen.
Nice play.
Kaylee Wagner coming up on the defense on that.
Made that steal possible.
Steal and Allen Allen.
Nice talking.
I don't high rebound Allen with it.
And they're going to say this girls had the ball.
And guess what.
They're going to call that a travel.
You love how aggressive they are on the boards.
Every shot's going up.
They're going after it.
You see her grab it.
Oh that's a right call.
She grabbed it in the stops Lina Willis on the floor for Mount Ararat.
Seeing her first action in the second half.
Logan takes a look, surveys the floor.
The offensive end.
Adams drives on Willis back to Murphy for three.
Great patience.
You see Caitlin Murphy turn back around after fingers.
Yeah, I got that love.
You see her?
When she caught it, she lined herself up.
You could see are getting a great rotation.
Great shot four point game Jensen too strong with the rebound up and in.
Kaylee Mack that's been a great difference.
Maker of offensive boards.
Ball knocked out of bounds by Jensen.
Boy we're seeing her name a lot this quarter.
She's doing so many things for them.
Whether it's defending whales, getting a rebound getting a steal.
Eve Lyles is going to see Blueshirts all night even in her sleep as she comes to wise.
Being guarded by Jensen, her new best friend.
Back to Adams for three.
No.
Great.
Look, if they're going to double that ball, that's that attack.
And you're going to be open for a three.
Jensen looking for help.
Look at Beal.
Swings it back around to Willis Willis to Jensen.
Good hustle.
Defense by Adams.
But the body bump in there and she'll get called for the foul.
You can see they try to close out real quick to no shooters.
Just a little too much aggression.
Grace Landry back on the floor and Caitlin Murphy checks out for the Broncos.
202 to go.
Third quarter.
See that in the bottom of your screen.
Six point lead for Mount Ararat.
Allen inbounds to Jensen.
Bounce pass into Allen down the lane without LaBrie there or excuse me with LaBrie there.
Took it to the basket anyway.
Yeah it's a little tougher when she's there and she can block shots.
Oh on the I think they're call that on the floor.
She's so strong that aggression.
Good.
Yeah.
She's going to the rim and she's got a long arm.
So you watch great great crossover gets involved.
While she's looking for help she wants to come to La Brea instead comes to Shaw Shaw watch by Allen.
Now Adams takes it inside and it goes out of bounds off the fingertips of evil.
And they're doing a great job though trying to create those opportunities for each other, whether it's a shot or getting to the rim.
Jensen calls out of play.
Girls spread out in the front court for the Eagles under a minute and a half to play.
Third quarter still a six point lead come out Eric Allen takes a look at Grace.
LaBrie comes into the lane.
Splits the defense.
Ball picked off by a great defensive effort by La Brea.
Pick it up a foul.
Moser comes to wild Wallace has some room.
Back to Logan.
She's open for three.
Doesn't take it.
She's got.
What A714.
Looks for them to maybe try to get a couple back doors at Adams.
Come on high to Shaw.
Shaw down the lane.
Not great.
Left at short.
No jobs, no surprise Juliana Allen down with the rebound.
Beal on the run up.
And in.
Both teams leading the open block and attacking it.
Nice play by Eve Wiles.
Took the ball right at her defender.
And Jensen had no place to go.
That's a kid right there.
Oh good.
She's got one.
You don't.
That's a kid.
You don't want to get a foul trouble.
I think her sister's got three, but she's got one and she's important to be on wheels.
Closer.
Under 20s to go.
Broncos need some points with it.
Adams.
Adams has the ball knocked out of her possession.
16 seconds to go in the quarter.
Well, yeah.
I feel like this game is going fast.
It's so entertaining.
Oh nice play defensively again Jensen.
She has Julian Allen coming with her.
Over the WAG.
WAG to Beal.
Throws up the runner.
No good.
And LaBrie down to the loose ball at the buzzer 2517.
The Mount Ararat Eagles lead the Hamden Broncos after three quarters of play.
Goal ball.
After the next eight minutes we're at the Augusta Civic Center.
Don't go away for one more quarter to go.

Here we have the fans of the Mount Ararat Eagles, who enjoy the eight point lead here at the Augusta Civic Center.
Game one of two tonight Messalonskee and Falmouth coming in next for the class AA boys game.
Eve Wiles on the dribble for the Broncos, who trailed Hansen.
Murphy to shore down low to Grace LaBrie up and in.
That's tough.
That's been a long time coming Chateau.
That's really hard to be able to get to help side on that.
Lead at six.
Pomerleau sets up the screen.
Gets the ball from Lambert.
Hands it back to Lambert.
She lets fly.
It's going to be blocked.
Pomerleau keeps it in.
Bounds comes to Murphy.
Murphy looking for help, finds Aubrey Shaw.
Shaw cuts across the lane, goes to Wiles in soft touch.
Stayed on the rim, drives and now is off a rebound and and in a quick transition.
Julie Petrie wants a full time out.
It's 2520 1A4 point lead for Mount Ararat.
A nice start to the fourth quarter for the Broncos.
I'll tell you, coach Petrie calls great timeouts multiple times.
She'll call him.
That's a really good timeout.
Sometimes you know we as coaches we might let that go a little bit too far.
45 seconds in she called one.

You know, what I find still impressive is Mount Ararat averages close to 60 points a game, averaged 57.9.
This is not even close to the average, but if you're watching them, it's not that it's rattling them.
They're playing hard, they're playing tough.
They're staying focused.
Gentlemen, while.
It sounds like a law firm, with great effort comes Allen.
Oh, play.
What a great entry pass.
A nice step around that led her to the middle and away from her defender.
Shaw, bothered by Pomerleau.
Nobody really in foul trouble here.
Not even Grace LaBrie, who had the two early ones.
Murphy looks inside to LaBrie, but Allen in fact back on her.
Now.
LaBrie has the ball.
Turns around, leaves it short.
Allen has played a real strong defensive game.
Here comes Kennedy.
Lambert back inside to Allen.
Kicks it to Pomerleau up.
Fakes on the play.
Drives on LaBrie.
Blocked by LaBrie two great plays offensively.
Great reads great crossovers body control and then a great play by LaBrie at the end to block out man straight up and then just hits as it comes up.
Allen drives on LaBrie spin dribble steps inside.
No good.
Gets her own rebound and it's going to get fouled by Eve.
Boy she is battling inside.
What I love her bench is telling her to.
She got that call and she looked at her bench and they're all cheering for it like yes that's what you got to do.
Keep it going once again for number ten.
Second Fallon, Eve Wiles.
Pomerleau comes in to Allen, to Lampert.
And a little confusion on where Kennedy Lambert was going with that.
Well, I like it.
They were running like America's three point play, having Allen set the screen for Pomerleau.
And well, how are you going to defend that.
You got a 51% three point shooter and an Allen on the block.
So it's a good side.
They got to come back to that.
Shaw with the ball goes to Allen.
Hand on the play by Juliana Allen.
She comes away with the ball and the layup.
Great defensive effort there by Allen.
Look at Lampert effort steals on good down.
That was fantastic.
She gets up like it's oh ho hum I do this all the time.
But that was a great defensive play back already.
That's a senior right.
You could tell this game there's a couple plays that she's been trying to make for her team.
And it hasn't fallen through the rim but plays like that.
She's locked in to win and do whatever she has to do impact this game.
Great play for that.
Senior.
Got a 32nd time out here by Winchester as he needs his Hamden Broncos.
Hey come on kids it's 540 to go.
And that's what you're playing for right there.
Not Ed Baer but the goal ball.
Well, since that time out by Coach Petrie, they've gone on their run again.
Are those that that's that's when you know you're in tune with your team.
You know what they need and you call it.
And you settle them down and you get refocused and took away a little bit of that Bronco momentum.
Yes.
And stopping for a minute to go.
Okay.
Now let's go back out and do it some more.
And guess what.
You know, coach was just he's doing the exact same thing every time he's gone a timeout.
They've come out and they've executed something.
Whether it's defensively offensively.
Well it's clearly these two teams way here.
And.
Are you not entertained I don't Jensen comes to wag flags out a strong second half Jensen wants help.
Flip out to Carmelo the three no with the loose ball and a rebound.
Puts it back out Allen has it.
Jaylen Jensen again with the spin move.
No good.
And no.
Jaylen Jensen leads your team in rebounding for this tournament.
Great effort getting back Kaylie Wagg hustled back on defense.
Took away a fastbreak opportunity for the Broncos.
Tough break there for Hamden eight point lead five minutes to go.
Fourth quarter.
Wiles.
Down there is doing a great job of always switching ball screens or dribble hand offs.
Closure.
They're trying to find an open look and this time they're scarce.
Murphy there it is.
Three point shot at ten.
They find it.
They hit it shot.
And for three she was hands ready shot ready for four and a half to go.
Five point lead Jensen.
It's going to get out of there three seconds goes by pretty quickly.
Again has the ball in the dribble.
Picks it up looking for help.
Comes into wag wag head fakes puts it up.
No good again Jensen moves in and a tie up.
Jalen Jensen just finds the basketball.
It's going to stay.
Mount Ararat basketball.
Both coaches.
She she love that at the end of this one it's awesome.
Oh anyone's going to be even running it down with Jensen Jensen wins that race to Pomerleau across and nice hustle.
Play by Adams.
Knocks the ball out of bounds.
And those are great sprints.
Try to go get a half more transition back to get a tip on it right there.
Great work by both teams Allen is calling for the ball Murphy tipped it away Carmelo resets goes right side down the lane.
The runner up.
And in so strong she got bumped 2 or 3 times there and she just dropped her shoulder.
Was able to keep control of her body.
Lyles into the frontcourt.
Comes to Murphy.
Great cross court to Lozier.
Lozier watch by Allen decides not to go up with it.
Murphy directing traffic.
Ball knocked out of bounds again.
Kelly Wagg another contribution from number 23 in blue.
Good.
Look at her there.
Beal back on the floor.
And Wagg takes a little bit of time out.
She gets a double high five from Julie Petrie as she should.
Great defense.
Double team in the corner and stolen away.
Here comes Juliana Allen.
She has Jensen ahead of her.
Oh what a hustle play.
Great hustle play.
Coming to the three minute mark.
Hamden needs to start putting in some points here.
Baseline the runner.
No good Juliana Allen with the rebound.
Slows the dribble into the frontcourt Caitlin Murphy will watch her.
Allen comes to Janssen.
Lambert.
Oh.
Patience here by Mount Ararat in the half court offense.
But they have so many ball handlers they can slow it down and get a good one.
Adams tried to knock the ball away.
She gets called for the foul instead.
No.
And then foul.
Neither team is in trouble here for team fouls or individual fouls.
Paige Richard on the floor and Caitlin Murphy checks out for the Broncos.
234 to go.
Fourth quarter.
Well, at this point you're you know you don't want them to stall.
So you're going to have to get up.
You're going to have to pressure.
But you only have three team fouls.
The biggest thing you have two fouls to give.
Don't set.
Just go hack them.
Oh for steals right.
Like try to limit the amount of time that they're going to have possession.
But see if you can get a steal or two if they call the foul.
It's what you wanted anyways.
For the first time ever.
Lock that in.
For the first time ever.
Antiques Roadshow is coming to Maine.
They're going to be in Boothbay this summer inspecting Maine antiques for which the state is rightly proud.
We'd love for you to be there as well to find out how you can get tickets.
Be sure to tune in to Maine Public Television Monday at 8:00 pm for a special presentation of Antiques Roadshow.
Hope to see you there.
Next, joining.
For inform you that immediately.
It's so funny.
I feel like if you were to say the score to Hampden, Hampden would be.
That's exactly what we want.
And if you were to say this quarter man er up there, I would say that's not good for us.
But it's flipped.
I think Barry Wright has found moments where their pace has made the difference.
And Hampden has been able to get runs together and they just they have two minutes and 34 seconds to make a big run.
The biggest run of the game.
They can't allow more points to the Eagles and if a little bit of violation here on Paige Richard that she wants to and the officials wanted to back up a little bit.
But that's not bad because now you got to see what they just ran.
Hopefully now you can take it away and get a steal.
It's not a bad strategy for us.
Done on purpose.
Ball comes in to Jalen Jensen.
Eve Wiles immediately on her and a hand check foul again.
No no free throws on this team.
Fouls haven't added up to that.
They got one more to give on.
This next one will be free throws.
Personal foul on the three team foul.
Number four.
Nice job challenging.
They got got to be going to I was just going to get called for the foul here.
Again they don't want a whole lot of time to go off the clock.
They need the basketball.
Good.
Look at Julie Petrie five and 1 to 5.
So this is a cool fact Jenna Johnson at the line.
Her mother is Natasha Jensen, but also known as the Tasha Jackson who I played high school basketball with back at Cony.
So there is no surprise how talented her girls are, because she was an extremely talented point guard for the couple of years that I got to play with her.
And what year do you come back for your 50th?
I know she's they are adding up.
I'm.
I heard her adding up.
At the top today earlier this week as.
All right.
Nine point lead Hamden with the ball and Caitlin Murphy just off the Jensen off the all back screen.
Juliana Allen comes down to the rebound.
The two Jensen girls have been all over the floor in the last 30s doing everything.
Jaylen with the ball hands it off to Lambert.
Lambert reaching by Caitlin Murphy.
And she would go to the line to shoot 295 to go.
Really playing smart basketball right now.
They have the kids that can handle it.
They're composed and they know they're not taking any shots.
They're just going to run clock until they get fouled.
I saw Julie when they came out for warmups, and she was saying that these kids have been composed all year long.
There's just something about them that they they're not rattled.
You know, they've lost a couple of games along the way, but you know, they've come together.
And she said it's never been an issue.
Right.
So some of the interpersonal stuff that troubles other teams.
So these kids all get along well.
And obviously they know how to play.
And you have some seniors that are stepping up.
Big Lambert just hit two free throws.
11 point lead under two minutes to play.
Wiles into the corner.
Left side looking for somebody in white and up and in.
But nice play by Aubrey.
Shot.
Nice job not standing and watching Lambert.
And a quick foul by Sean and.
Kennedy.
Lambert.
And if you're a coach you have a lot of confidence setting her to lead because she just had to.
So send her back and have her hit two more.
Lambert at the line shooting.
This might be the largest crowd these kids have played before.
Oh, I bet in their high school careers.
Now, Mount Ararat came out of the Portland Expo.
Which is configured differently from here and and eastern here, where we had the.
This block of games tonight has a nice crowd.
And it's not great shot by Liam Kennedy Lambert.
Adams gets double team, picks up her dribble comes to Murphy Murphy up and in.
Jingling Murphy.
Wiles gets hit in the head again as they double team the inbounds play.
And Jensen's going to come up to shoot free throws Jenna Jensen a lot of great knowledge.
Basketball and all that you're seeing on the court right here.
So you had Hamden just attacked and instead of going and fouling them, giving them an and one they just contested and let it go, let the clock continue.
Don't put them on the line.
Just some smart plays right now for Mount Ararat.
Wanting to pull this out.
You see Julie Petrie telling her girls what she wants them to do, make her miss on this free throw by Jensen.
Make it for two and he throws a 11 point lead under a minute and a half.
Broncos need to pick up the pace here.
Adams.
Comes to deal.
Tom Wiles brother and Wiles loops it inside.
Juliana Allen gets it, gets a hand on it and Kennedy Lambert goes to the floor and is fouled.
And you're just starting to feel a little bit the energy of are we.
Did we just win our first ever go ball?
I mean the fans behind us are starting to stand up.
You can see Caitlin Murphy checks out.
Fifth foul.
Mallory laws are back on the floor for the Broncos 111 to play.
Checking out far Side is Jenna Jensen with her on the line shooting.
Down the free throw.
Great job shooting them.
Paige, Richard and Mallory.
Loja.
Check out for Camden Eve while stays on the floor.
They have an idea that.
The hill has become too steep.
Decline.
Shaw comes to Adams.
Adams.
Down the left side lane.
Ball knocked away and picked up by Kennedy.
Lambert as the cross.
Under a minute.
And this is.
This is hard.
It's bittersweet.
Right.
Like you're watching the team that understands that they've just lost.
Yeah.
You're watching their face and how upset they are.
And it's sinking in.
But the one thing about Hampton, they are so young.
It is incredible what they've done, how they've even played this game to do what they've done to get here, that most of them.
We're all coming back next year.
And don't you think that might be a topic of some discussion afterwards?
Remember how this feels.
Yes.
You know, let's be motivated in the off season to repeat this.
But then when we can come back and see the Jensen kids again.
Kennedy Lambert has lived on the free throw line here in the fourth quarter.
She's played great defense tonight as all of Mount Ararat Kate Adams for three banks at home.
Adams is saying no fouls.
Lambert kicks it ahead to Juliana Allen.
Coming down and a half minute mark.
And they're going to spread the floor a little bit.
There.
Nice job just moving it around Kate Adams I'm not sure.
Wanted to make the foul but.
She gets called for it anyway.
It's I believe her fourth and five being out on this personal foul.
Number three.
Excuse me Allen is on and shooting.
Just a steady any game here by Juliana Allen filling the stat sheet.
Rebounds blocked shots so much.
Steals.
She.
But it's been like that all year.
Beautiful post moves.
12 point lead last 20s on the run up.
No good.
Carmelo Fleming to dribble in the front court.
The last 10s for from run.
Look at the bench.
Kids that played zero minutes in.
This means everything about air and Eagles are your class A girls state champions.
I bet you could guess.
Number one out of the South.
Make their run to the Southern Main tournament and come up here to take on a very worthy opponent.
First ever gold ball.
I know some alumni from Mount Ararat that are here in attendance, because they were hoping this would happen.
Very excited.
Congratulations.
Mount Ararat.
Those are tears of joy on the part of coach Julie Petrie, an official standing for this evening's game.
And you go through the handshake line, you talk about bittersweet.
Amnon came here to to do what they wanted to do, and things, but they did a great job.
They tried to keep the pace down.
They had beautiful runs.
They have young talent, though.
Young talent wise, they will be back an official scorer at two points came when five points in five point balanced scoring on the part.
Seven points of the Mount Ararat Eagles.
Jenna Jensen seven points and Gianna Allen 17 points.
I love watching, you know.
Yeah, on a modest night.
Whatever huddle you're in though, right?
Both coaches still coaching.
Yeah because they care.
They care about these kids.
You spend every day with them for multiple months to experience.
The higher the low of this love of basketball and.
It's tough for him in an amazing from out era.
But both groups should be so proud and entertaining game today.
Well, again, you and I had been talking about this coming in saying, you know, we want to have a nice competitive game.
We weren't sure what we were going to see because, you know, you look at comparative scores, you look at strength of schedule.
You've got all these analytics.
And we had, you know, for three and a half quarters of basketball, we had a game that could have gone either way.
Yes.
Just came down to at the end.
I mean Ara made five shots at the end to really stretch out that lead.
And you wind up, you know, when two teams that can play defense and demonstrate the quickness that they did both teams the number of turnovers is not a surprise because they were being guarded heavily and quickly.
So it's a.
Final score is not indicative necessarily of how close this thing was.
Because those free throws for Langford down the fourth quarter what she six for six at the end or just toss them up.
He'll go in.
But you look at you know Pamela had five points tonight.
Has there been a game this year when she only scored five points.
Oh no right.
Pomerleau averages 13.5 all season long.
Has averaged ten in the tourney.
Kelly Wague had five points and as many points as Powell and Kelly whacks five points for huge.
Yes.
Yeah I know about the time that Hamilton's thinking.
Oh yeah yeah yeah we can.
And there's Kelly Wagg either stealing the ball getting a rebound.
Yeah.
Running out in the fast break you know.
And she had been quiet most of the first half.
So as when you have contributions up and down the lineup like that they'll be back in 50 years telling everybody that they're their highlight stories.
They will remember this.
I thought this was a well coached game by both by both sides.
Oh, you saw it.
Yeah.
And every time someone called the timeout, good things happen for that team.
They both made runs.
They had great adjustments.
Well, the other thing is when Nick Winchester calls a timeout, some of it was to arrest what you'd say was uncharacteristic behavior.
Not bad.
You know, the girls are trying hard enough, but it wasn't working.
So hey, settle down, you know, let's regroup.
And then they come out, they regroup, they make a little bit of a run and Julie Peters at the other end, the floor going, oh, I see what you're doing.
Yeah.
Oh, they just think I can stop that dismount.
Air gets runs.
Had a little bit more scoring in them right.
Instead of A50 run they might have had an eight oh run.
The nets are down.
Oh oh.
Elena Willis.
Kennedy Langford.
The two seniors.
Pamela was a senior.
That's that for seniors and all in Oh Avery Beal yeah, right.
They have four seniors.
They'll hang on to that.
Okay.
I knew it would be rough coming in.
All right.
They ready to announce?
I believe she's a gentleman.
Before we begin the awards, just a quick note for the seniors on both teams.
We'd like to thank you.
Thank you all for your leadership throughout your high school basketball careers and for you seniors.
We want to wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Congratulations.

Seeing a gold ball in your trophy case does make a difference.
Especially with the first one.
Yes, it.
We're going to talk to a couple of these kids and probably the head coach, when we return to the Augusta Civic Center after this brief timeout.

Tournament brackets for the main invitational tournament and.
They're going to wander down to the east end of the building and speak with our Ethan Snow.
But I don't think they want to leave the court.
Oh, they don't want to leave the court and they want to hang on to I.
So, let's just sit here for the next hours getting the seniors together.
But, and again, folks at home do not do not go away.
We have Falmouth and Messalonskee boys coming in here next in what could be a banana, if that's going to be an exciting game.
And again, a program reminder for tomorrow, the season DS all right.
The Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Tomorrow afternoon and evening.
And the B and Double-A games are at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
Same approximately same times, but afternoon and evening.
And all of those games will be on Maine Public Television.
It's just the best we can do this weekend.
And.
Maine basketball is quite special.
Carly Pomerleau going.
Anybody coming with me?
I know I've got the gold ball followed me.
Yeah.
They're getting a little help from the NBA.
Come on kids.
Well, when you've never done this before right.
There's no there's no right or wrong.
Ethan Snow is lined up with these kids.
Take it away, Ethan.
All right, well, thank you very much, guys.
And I'm here with the victorious head coach, Julie Petrie.
Coach Hamden kept it close, but you managed to stay right with them.
And in the end, you pull up.
Pull it off.
How?
They kept you close at the end of the first half.
How did you pull away in the second?
We knew we just need to come out with more energy in the third quarter.
And, you know, we weren't shooting the ball well.
We knew we needed to get to the rim and keep our defense in intensity, and we did.
So I'm really, really proud of this group.
Awesome.
Juliana, come on over here.
Juliana, I just saw I just mentioned the coach.
It was close at the end of the first half, but then you took over 16.13 rebounds.
Double double for you as a junior.
What does that mean in their very first state title game?
It means a lot.
But I couldn't have done it without my team.
All right.
And Kelly, we'll get you in here real quick.
Not all seniors get to win their final basketball game of their high school careers.
And you get to walk home with this right here.
What does that mean?
Not only for you, this team, but for this great community support here this year.
I mean, we've never, ever been to a state championship before.
So winning our first one is like history for our school.
And I'm just so proud of all my teammates.
I'm just we've come so far our chemistry I'm just I'm going to miss them so much.
Well one last thing for all you ladies.
Now your community everybody.
These fans, they love it when teams get loud.
So I want you all to tell this camera right here what it's like to be state champions for the first time in program history.
There.
And back to you.
Thanks, Ethan.
The energy of youth.
Congratulations to the Mount Ararat Eagles as, they come off the highway.
Take care of business.
And they're going to go back down to Thompson Harpswell.
And they're going to enjoy this tonight.
And you could see how much love they have for each other in both of those comments.
I'm good because of my team.
And you ask a senior and it's not I can't wait to go bother.
It's I'm going to miss these girls.
And she she just started to like tear up like, well, that's what makes it special.
You know, from start to finish.
Formally the season goes 110 days.
Wow.
From the opening of preseason practice to the just state to the championship, it's 110 days, but it's something that will live with them for the rest of their lives.
We've crowned one state.
She's got another one coming.
Thank you for joining us for tonight's girls class A state game.
The boys class AA state game.
