From the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, it's the MPA boys class C state championship presented by where Butler between the Mount Abraham Roadrunners and the Martin All Cook Academy links.
Well, you heard the two schools playing Mount Abraham and Matt Hancock for the class C championship here at the Cross Insurance Center, and the final game of the 20 2425 high school basketball season gets set to get underway.
I'm Toby Nelson, joined by the coach Ken Lin.
Laugh and we welcome you to the Cross Insurance Center and state championship basketball here on the stations of the Maine Public Television Network.
And coach, you look at these two teams coming into this one kind of mirror images of each other.
Yeah, I really like the matchup.
Both teams have outstanding guards.
They have active big man.
They have shot makers.
They both like to play fast pace.
We got a chance to have a high scoring game.
Yeah.
When you look at the numbers would you look at it.
Road to gold here in just a moment that a lot of these teams like to get up and down the floor.
And I like to score one loss between these two clubs.
Matt and Scott coming in at 21.
And oh Mount Abraham coming in at 20 and one.
And neither team has won a state championship.
So something's going to give here tonight.
Absolutely for man and cook.
It goes back though 1956 was the last time they won a regional title.
So, this is a big night for both communities.
That an hour cook averaged 77 points per game.
So it and they had one common opponent.
They both played Mount View.
They both won by five to make it even more even.
It should be a great game here tonight as we look forward to state championship basketball here on the stations.
The Maine Public Television network, we've already seen a bunch of schools win their first ever Gold Ball.
We'll talk about that throughout the evening as well.
As we just saw the Penobscot Valley Howlers win their first ever Gold Ball.
Standing by a third member of our broadcast crew is Jim Baynes, and he's talking to Mount Abraham to start with.
We'll go to him right now.
Jim.
Coach Bill's great.
From the western mountains of Maine to the bright lights of Bangor.
Exciting moment for everybody in the road running country.
Is this good for everybody?
We're excited boys.
Excited?
Yeah.
We haven't been here.
So we'll see what happens.
All right.
Let's talk X's and O's.
Yeah.
You reviewed the footage on on on the lakes to tell him it's.
So what do you think?
What's your biggest concerns here?
Well, a Kathy for number one, and probably all of her for number two.
But, you know, we got to take care of the ball and not turn it over and let them get in transition, but, and, hopefully, hopefully contest some threes and get them off the line.
But they score a lot of points.
And so we got to defend for sure tonight.
Take care of the ball and defend.
All right coach good luck to you.
Thank you.
Very good.
All right.
Some on Abraham side of things from Jim Baynes.
We thank him.
So for Coach Pillsbury his team the first time they've ever been here to a state championship game coming in at 20 and one.
Flip side the mount the American Academy links.
They come in 21 and oh I can't already mentioned the one common opponents amount you mustangs which Jim enough of beat in the quarterfinals beaten by five points Matt Hancock winning and they beat the Lady Madawaska last week to get here.
The second side of things is the mad anarchic side of things.
And Jim Bay standing by with their head coach Adam Haney.
Jim tell you Adam, looks like we have Lynx faithful and powerful joining forces today in a, two school effort.
Is that a fair statement?
Yeah.
You know, the Lincoln community's been great, and they travel everywhere with us.
And in the Highland community, they support us as well.
You know, earlier this year, the band for us actually stuck around, played for Holland.
So it's a good neighbor rivalry, but they want to see both communities succeed.
All right Scott in the Roadrunners the X's and O's.
What are you concerned about here tonight.
Oh the Wilcox kids going to be tough.
Same with Pillsbury.
You know they want to get out and run, and that's that's what we want.
So we're open to have it be a fast paced game.
And end of the day, we'll see who gets the most points.
All right.
Very good luck today.
Hey thank you guys.
Now it's time for the road to the gold segment.
Yeah.
Let's take a look at tonight's matchup.
We have the Mount Abraham Roadrunners coached by Jeff Pillsbury.
21 record on the season average 65 points a game.
Number one in the South.
They defeated the Monmouth in the regional finals.
They are yet to, win.
Put a gold ball in their trophy case on the other side.
Another team that is going to put a gold ball in their trophy case.
But the man in North Cook Academy links undefeated season, high scoring, averaging almost 77 points a game giving up 46.
Number one in the north.
And they defeated Madawaska in the regional finals.
A lot of good stuff between these two clubs.
Matt and Cook Academy 21 zero.
Mount Abraham 20 and one.
You look at the points as candidates mentioned, scoring a lot of points, not giving up two too many, both the number one teams in their divisions and someone to take home a gold ball for the first time in program history, the Mount Abraham School started in 1969 and 70, and they won some gold bars before that with some of the sending schools King Field in 1968, Phillips in 1963 and 1964, strong in 1967 and 1969.
But, they have not won his mount.
Abraham, you look at the blanks right now.
Yeah, they they have a chance tonight.
Both teams like to mix it up defensively.
They'll extend pressure.
They'll show different fronts.
And they'll, press half court, maybe three quarter court.
So both teams like to get out, pressure the ball and look to get steals and fuel their offense through their defense.
I think Jim talked about it in the pregame interview with Coach Adam Mahaney.
Them the Matanuska Lynx fans across the way.
A lot of green still sitting in there.
From Penobscot Valley.
They're watching this one as we get set for high school basketball.
Send it over to the table.
Public address announcer is Bob Leatham.

So those are the starting lineups and we're ready to go in this one.
As the Roadrunners and the lakes will get set to do battle.
You see the Matt Hancock links with coach Adam Mahaney 21 and zero, the home whites and the number one seed in the northern region, Mount View wrote in the Mount now Mount Abraham Roadrunners.
They're the number one seed in the southern Maine region, 20 and one on the year.
Brennan Mitchell will jump center for Mount Abraham.
James Trott to jump center for the Matt Hancock links.
Here we go, coach.
Yes, right.
Size size advantage to Mount Abraham.
But Matt, Matt Hancock plays big WMA and Mount A is the opening tap taken by the man to knock cook links into the front court.
It's trot for three rattles around no good and Brennan Mitchell off with the rebound.
So one and done for the Lynx on their first offensive possession.
Pillsbury leading scorer for this Mount Abraham team.
He's wearing number one in the front court.
Off to Bryce Wilcox.
Wilcox now Pillsbury.
Good pressure put on by Matt Hancock right away.
Pass inside.
Knocked away and stolen.
Taken out by Cooper McCarthy.
That's a rare turnover by Pillsbury too.
Is usually very good at taking care of the ball and it settles up in the front court.
McCarthy picks up the dribble.
Pulls up from 12.
Shot around.
No good.
Rebound taken down by weather.
Be nice.
Back door.
The shot missed that time by Trott and pulled down by Mount Abraham.
Pillsbury off into the corner.
Three point try on the way.
It was good for Chase Ross in the road.
Runners on the scoreboard.
Good vision by Pillsbury pushed it up to the elbow and then fired it over to the corner, so chase Ross for three.
Pillsbury will find the open man.
Mount Abraham located in strong cans of Phillips, Avon, King Field and Strong again founded in 1970 and a heck of a nickname the Roadrunners.
That's a pretty good one.
McCarthy down low.
The catch shot up off the glass.
Blocked away Jordan.
Shot block goes out of bounds.
Mount Abraham ball.
Pretty good defensive intensity right now from the Roadrunners.
Yeah Brendan Mitchell came up with the block Jordan temporarily open right here.
We'll see him cutting to the basket.
Just got a tip of it.
And maintain control.
Pillsbury into the front court.
Burke's left side gives it off to Wilcox.
Wilcox pulls up.
Shot missed weakside board.
Pulled out by Matt Hancock.
Is Jordan out to McCarthy in the lakes.
Want to run in the front court McCarthy ball knocked away from behind.
But he's able to maintain control.
Is it off to Andrew Oliver.
Oliver liable to go off at any moment as well.
He and McCarthy leading scorers for this Maddox team McCarthy back to Oliver and now pulled out to Jordan.
Fires it down inside.
Oliver the cat shot.
No good.
And the rebound taken off by Mitchell.
Using that shuffle cut by the guards coming off the high post screen.
Pillsbury from long range off the front rim.
No good.
And the rebound chased out by Matt Hancock.
They run it up into the front court as trot kicks it out.
Three point try this one taken by Jordan off the side of the rim.
No good and the rebound come out Abraham Pillsbury off in transition.
Gets it down low.
Lay up no good.
But a whistle and a travel wouldn't have mattered anyway I think both both teams are comfortable with this pace.
They'd like to go up and down.
They like to pressure and attack.
On.
Here's McCarthy for the man to knock.
Cook lakes gives it off to Drew Weatherby hands it to trot.
Trot gets down low or he's bottled up.
Good defense by Lockerbie as McCarthy off to Weatherby.
Link still looking for their first points in this one.
About three minutes into the first quarter from the Cross Insurance Center.
Burning the midnight oil here on the state of the Maine Public Television.
Toby Nelson, Ken Lynn lock with you.
McCarthy pass knocked away and stolen.
Taken out by the Roadrunners.
It's Pillsbury.
He'll go to the glass.
His shot blocked.
So pretty good defensive possession by both clubs.
And then a foul in transition.
I think it's Wilcox that caught up with the foul right here.
Let's take a look at the last play.
Here comes Pillsbury number four rice Wilcox hamming it up as Jordan first gets the rejection.
McCarthy in the front court.
You see him up close and personal after Jordan now down low.
True.
Weatherby the catch.
The layup is good.
That's something they do quite often is called the high low set.
They throw it to the high post and they dump it down inside to Weatherby.
But the links over three minutes.
But they're on the scoreboard and trail it three two to the Roadrunners.
Pillsbury off the left side goes up with a shot.
It goes off his foot and out of bounds.
Gets hit from behind by Andrew Oliver.
And it goes out of bounds.
Let's take a look at that high low set as to the high post.
Nice steal by Weatherby.
Inside for the easy two.
And Mitchell on him defensively.
But he right the seal and the layup.
There's coach Adam Mahaney shouting out instruction to his club.
McCarthy into the front court.
Now with it.
Trot back to McCarthy for the links.
Weatherby up top.
They love to pull him away from the basket.
He takes up a lot of size inside.
Down the lane.
The runner no good.
Rebound ripped off by Mount Abraham.
Bass pass up into the front court.
Lock him to the glass.
Lays it in right.
Roadrunners living up to their nickname.
Getting up and down the floor Reagan Lockerbie with the bucket.
Makes it five to the passer side to Weatherby.
A whistle and a foul goes on Mount Abraham.
Brennan Mitchell called for the push.
Let's take a look at Lockerbie running the floor.
There's a nice bounce pass number two up and in right.
So Pillsbury they run their offense through him.
He's the engine that makes them go number four.
There's Coach Pillsbury and number ten Thomas Harrison Thomas checking in.
Three pointer in the corner.
That one off rebound pulled off by Wilcox.
Up ahead of the pack.
Now goes to Pillsbury off the left side.
It was Berry had a heck of a southern Maine tournament.
They beat Monmouth a rival for them over the last couple of years.
Right down the lane.
Nice pass.
Walker becomes three.
Lays it in Lockerbie.
And it started with Chase Ross beating his man off the dribble.
Then found ball can be all alone underneath Lockerbie with a bucket.
Makes it a lead for the Mount Abraham Roadrunners.
As a three second violation on Weatherby.
So.
Let's take a look here.
There's Ross turning the corner.
The nice bounce pass and the strong finish.
Good start here for Mount Abraham.
The southern Maine champ leading the Northern Maine champ with 308 to go in the first quarter.
Pillsbury for the Roadrunners gives it to Wilcox.
Pillsbury nice pass down low.
The layup up off the glass goes for Harrison Thomas.
So Thomas with the bucket.
And right now Mount Abraham getting some good runs at the basket.
Nothing but layups except for the three point shot.
Ball knocked away and stolen up by Pillsbury.
But he ran out of room on the sideline.
Outstanding pressure by Mount Abrams giving Badenoch a little bit of trouble right here.
It's a fight.
They're thrown into the back court and stolen.
Taken by Pillsbury.
The layup.
No good.
Long rebound.
Stolen.
Right back.
Pillsbury off on the right side will take it off into the corner.
Swings it across court so Roadrunners reset three point try.
Missed rebound pulled down by Weatherby to McCarthy and the Lynx running.
Here's McCarthy.
As a pass across the lane knocked out of bounds.
And it goes out of bounds I think we're going to get a delayed warning.
Called on Mount Abraham for flopping.
Yes sir.
That's a warning.
Next one would be a technical foul.
About Abraham getting their hands on a lot of passes a lot of deflections.
They're playing passing lanes extremely well.
Whether he gets the inbounds pass off to McCarthy.
Team trails it by seven nine to Mount Abraham with the lead here in the first quarter from the cross.
And Karen Center on Saturday night March 1st.
This one will finish out the high school basketball season this year will be the last game playing.
Oliver gives it to McCarthy out near the jump circle and hit 50 to go in the quarter.
Off in the corner.
Three pointer by Traore over everything.
Rebound pulled off by Mount Abraham.
Pillsbury gives it to Thomas.
Nice pass down the lane.
The runner off the glass.
No good as Wilcox had a little too much English on that one.
McCarthy whistle player control a foul.
They're going to call him with the push on.
Excellent defense again by Pillsbury who has got outstanding quickness handed off of the academy.
Foul number 42 Cooper McCarthy.
Timeout call by Matanuska.
So the Lynx want to take a timeout here with a minute 28 to go in the first quarter.
Good start here so far for the Mount Abraham Roadrunners.
It is.
And you know fast paced better knock offs.
Had shots.
Just been unable to convert.
Although on the other hand Mount Abrams missed a couple of layups themselves.
So a lot of shot attempts but a up and down right now right now advantage to the Roadrunners I mean public YouTube channel.
Not only has the state final games live, but you can also catch up with the ones you may have missed or want to watch again.
While there, you can check out other videos or dig into the archive.
Dive in at youtube.com.
Slash main public Abraham minute 28 to go here.
In the first quarter, it's Mount Abraham out to A92 lead over the Madison Cook Links.
In this class C championship game, and getting out to a fast start is always important in any game, but particularly a championship game.
So early advantage about Abraham for sure.
Vocal crowd behind us from the Mount Abraham community.
Well, Abraham's gone to their bench to Andrew Rother has come in.
Harrison Thomas was in earlier.
Brendan Mitchell to inbound for the Roadrunners.
Gets it into Ross Rosser on the show up top they move Pillsbury off the ball Ross gets free the kick out pass.
Pillsbury swings it back near side to Ross at the free throw line.
Mitchell Mitchell backs his way down, gives it to Ross, fires three.
Swish three point basket.
Playing with extreme confidence right now.
Minute to go here in the first quarter a ten point lead for Mount Abraham.
Kickout pass and it comes back up.
Top three point try on the way.
That one off the mark.
No good rebound comes down McCarthy can't get the roll.
And the rebound pulled down to Mount Abraham.
Along the baseline for the Roadrunners kickout pass is Pillsbury has it.
Ross right down the lane goes right side to hard ball goes out of bounds off Matt and it'll stay with the Roadrunners with 31 seconds to go.
Good pressure on the offensive glass by Lockerbie Academy.
The game for the Roadrunners.
Number four Bryce Bryce Wilcox back in the game.
Mount.
They've been going to their bench early and often keeping some fresh legs in the game A whistle a player controls off the ball illegal screen.
It was on Brennan Mitchell.
That'll be a second on Abraham.
Foul number two Reggie Mitchell.
Of course the number two for the standing pressure now 1 to 2 or 1 to 1.
One I should say down court McCarthy with a catch.
Kick out to the corner.
True.
True.
Weatherby.
Now McCarthy.
And up top with it.
It goes to try corner Oliver three around the rim.
It off.
No good.
Open shot after open shot.
Wilcox to Pillsbury down court.
It's Ross Ross Wilcox pull up.
Pop around the rim.
No good.
We get a whistle.
There is a foul.
And that came before the before the horn.
So let's see if it's a shooting situation or not.
Technical A technical foul called.
So it's going to be a technical foul.
I didn't see what the technical was for.
Maybe it was another flop.
I did not see that.
I didn't see the call.
So either way it's two shots here for Matt anarcha shooting the technical free throws for Matador Coach Academy.
It must have been another flop for Andrew Oliver.
What?
The two shots in the quarter hasn't ended yet.
At the free throw line shooting two here from Matt Hancock is Andrew Oliver.
As the first one is good.
One more shot here.
That one's good.
So he makes them both at the free throw line.
And that one in the first quarter of play here from the Cross Insurance Center.
After one corner, it's the Mount Abraham Roadrunners 12.
The man and all the academy links.
Can you take a timeout for Genie?
We'll take a timeout and come back with a second quarter action right after this.

Feel like you belong here.
At the crossing cheering center, Toby Nelson can laugh with you.
12 for the score.
Matt innocuous with the lead as you near Mount Abraham a lead over Madam McCook.
We had the technical foul called right at the end of the quarter for flopping.
That's why the Matt Hancock link shot two free throws, ball kick, and it goes out of bounds.
So it'll stay with Mount Abraham.
But can the first quarter Mount Abraham able to get to the basket and assert some authority on the defensive side.
Played a pretty good first quarter of basketball.
Yeah certainly I think a quickness and intensity edge to Mount Abraham and for Matt Hancock.
They just got to get some shots to, to drop.
They've had open looks unable to convert.
Other Whistle mount Abraham to inbound it again.
Here's Wilcox now with Ross and back up top.
Pillsbury.
Gives it off along the near side.
Goes down low.
Shot blocked away.
Loose.
Picked up by Matt and Cook and the links off and running up into the front court.
It's Oliver.
Oliver hands it back off.
McCarthy.
Nice pass down low.
The shot up off the glass.
No good.
That one missed by rider Osnos.
And it comes away to Mount Abraham found himself two open that time.
Another opportunity inside up off the glass and in and the roadrunners answer back there with Brennan.
Mitchell and Pillsbury is the master of the bounce pass.
14 four.
So a ten point ballgame.
Back.
Good footwork.
Weatherby hands it back off.
Trott goes in the corner.
They give it right back to him.
Right.
Spin move.
And the kick out to Oso.
Oso to McCarthy for three.
Off the back rim.
No good.
Rebound taken down by Reagan Lockerbie.
Outstanding position that time by Lockerbie.
Strong rebound.
Front court to Mitchell.
Hands off to Wilcox.
And now Pillsbury.
Wilcox tries a three here as an oh point basket that was contested two not a wide open three by any means off the dribble.
That's their third three pointer of the first half.
On Abraham leading it by 13 right now 17 to 4 Oslo Open.
He tries three and a miss.
And a weak side board pulled off by Mount Abraham Pillsbury up into the front court.
Whistle.
And I believe a timeout is going to be called.
One of the players getting sick over there and the game.
For now let's take a look at the last hoop for Avery Jordan.
Number 20 is Wilcox.
A couple dribbles.
Into the game from shot off the dribble.
It gets a contested defender 17 to for the score.

The King will reset.
The Mount Abraham Roadrunners will have the basketball leading at 17 to 4.
We talked about them getting to the basket.
A lot of layups.
But they've also hit three three pointers here in the first half.
Yeah right now they've got it I know you're right.
Now you you wonder about Matt and Brooks confidence.
You know they missed shots and starting to see a little bit of body language too.
So they got to shrug it off and continue to play.
It's inbounded.
Pillsbury gets it into Will to across.
Oh, and now Rother in the game is Andrew Rother number five.
So a few minutes in the first quarter he's back for the second quarter.
Rother drives floats it up a little too high.
Rebound comes right down.
Fortuitous pass to Mitchell and he'll lay it in Mitchell Joe sometimes just in the right place at the right time.
The 19 four advantage for Mount Abraham.
One thing that Mount Abraham is doing with their defensive pressure is they're pushing the ball farther out, away from the basket.
The matter now, cook is used to playing from Oliver gives it off as Carter Millner now in the game number 25 for the Lynx.
Osmo back to Oliver from the foul line.
Pulls up with a shot.
No good out of bounds and it stays with the length.
And an off hook with the basketball is Bryce Wilcox coming back in the game.
Number four Bryce Wilcox.
James Trot to inbound to coach Pillsbury along the sideline coaching hard for his Mount Abraham team.
Off in the corner.
Another open look here for the Lynx off the back rim.
No good rebound pulled down by Albert Abraham.
Stolen away.
Taken back by Matt Hancock.
With us now on snow.
Right down the lane.
The runner no good.
And that one's tipped out of bounds.
Goes off of Matt and knocked off of Millner.
Reflect.
You've seen the eyes.
They'll come to a jump stop and play off a two feet rather than the off balance layup attempt bound to Pillsbury the sideline.
Wilcox right back to Pillsbury.
He'll run the show for the Roadrunners.
Wilcox are blocking foul on Matt Anna-Kat.
Foul on number 22.
That's James Trott his first batted off of the Cademy foul.
Number 22 James brought his first.
Matt Hancock has their hands full trying to press, Pillsbury also number 35.
Both Pillsbury Ross and Wilcox are all pretty athletic.
Bingo.
Wilcox got the basketball off in the corner.
Tries three.
Swish, three point basket.
Nice.
Wilcox.
Bryce Wilcox for three.
Almost knocked away, but into the front court.
It goes to Oliver Hill.
Pry three off the front rim.
No good.
Rebound taken down by Mount Avery but he handed it back.
It's Pillsbury to the glass hill and up.
And in going in goes three.
So Pillsbury with a layup.
Timeout called by Matt and McCook with 411 to go in the first half goes we've got a 20 point ball game.
Yeah we just like that three second time out.
The speed the quickness getting out in front.
Watch this.
There's Pillsbury the crossover dribble penetrate and kick.
Wilcox with the trey.
The solid slides work.
And then coming back together.
We're coming slightly.
The quick timeout.
That was the the tail end of Pillsbury breakaway layup opportunity.

So out of the timeout, Mackinaw cook basketball with 411 to play in the first half.
Very important for Mendenhall cook to keep a positive mindset and just keep working.
Oliver inbounds gets it in to Avery Jordan.
It's had plenty of looks have had plenty of shots.
Just need a few to drop.
Drew Weatherby gives it off to Oliver Oliver drives and he's fouled.
So that'll be before the shot went in.
Is the Lynx the inbound and hit their own basket.
They go for four all the way from Baltimore 11.
Chase chase Ross call for the foul.
It's his first and the first on the Roadrunners here in the second quarter.
Nice back door to Weatherby.
Layups.
Good weather for Weatherby.
He's got both buckets.
Both field goals here from Tanaka.
They've had other layup attempts as well.
But.
That's what they need some easy baskets to get back in this thing.
Chase Ross off in the corner.
Another three.
It was good.
Wilcox had another feeling.
It.
Nice throw pass.
It's his third.
Ross has two.
McCarthy, guarded by Pillsbury drives, tried to get his man in the air and has to kick it back up top.
Jordan out of Milner and now McCarthy.
McCarthy on the drive back to Milner.
Having to work hard to get shots off.
Here are the links with 318 to play in the first half.
They're having a hard time penetrating.
Well there's a penetration right there.
Ball taken down by Lockerbie.
Very impressed with his work on the boards and a force inside so far open.
Wilcox another three around the rim and off that time that one looked pretty good too for it did.
McCarthy he's got it.
Stops pulls up with a jumper rattles it home Brooklyn in pretty good defense too.
Hey you got to credit Pillsbury as he's making him work for everything.
But that's a tough shot there by McCarthy.
Pillsbury from long range big time.
He missed the rebound.
The puck goes in the foul for Brendan Mitchell Mitchell.
Watch Mitchell.
Here comes a long range shot.
Martin off Mitchell beating McCarthy to the boards.
Impressed with Mitchell and especially Lockerbie A12 punch on the offensive glass.
Lockerbie to get a little bit of a rest right now.
But he has played a monster game inside as the free throw.
Good.
So Mitchell caps off the three point play Joe down Abraham hits 30 to 8 keeping the pressure on ball knocked away McCarthy's got it.
Goes to the glass.
He lays it in for some coffee.
So a down court pass from Oliver to McCarthy.
No let up in the pace.
Pillsbury up top for Mount Abraham drives shovels it off inside the lay up around and in for Mitchell.
But so much pressure on the defense when he turns the corner.
People have to help.
And that leaves a man open under the basket.
McCarthy double team in the backcourt.
Gets rid of it up into the front court.
Now to Oliver Oliver goes up a three rounds at home basket.
Well you knew it was a matter of time for people like Oliver started hitting.
It at 47 to play in the first half.
Pillsbury for Mount Abraham off to Ross.
Now Pillsbury along the near side for the Roadrunners at the free throw line.
Harrison Thomas bounces it out to Ross.
Pillsbury with Ross as they play a modified Four Corners game.
Right now.
Back door.
Inside it goes.
Here's looking for Harrison Thomas and kicks it back up top to Pillsbury.
Now under a minute to play here in the first half.
Ross gets a screen set for him.
Dumps it down low.
Backdoor cut.
Knocked away and stolen by Oliver.
Nice read by Oliver.
Defensively.
Down court to Cooper McCarthy skips it back to the nearside Oliver with a catch Oliver drives quickly.
Double team now back into the corner.
Weatherby stolen away.
It's loose on the sideline.
It's going to go out of bounds.
It goes off of Mount Abraham.
So it'll stay mad and off the ball.
Good hustle right there defensively by Harrison Thomas.
39 seconds to play in the first half.
McCarthy's got it.
Team trails it by 19.
McCarthy in the lane.
The basket's going to count.
And the foul.
Yeah.
That time he managed to get a half a step on Pillsbury.
Started to turn the corner.
Took the contact made the bucket watch watch number one.
So here it is up fake.
Second foul Abraham.
Number five in the act of shooting McCarthy at the line.
He'll get one shot at the free throw line.
And he'll make it.
McCarthy now with seven points 16 point ballgame.
30s to play here in the first half.
Still a full half of basketball to go.
And you know Matt Hancock has a high powered offense.
Off to Ross.
The last guy was everybody pulled out.
And Ross was right there with nobody back a whistle and a carrying violation on Matt Hancock.
With 14 seconds to play here in the first half.
And I was about to say, even though the score doesn't look good man enough, good starting to look a little more comfortable offensively.
And then they give up a layup and then they have a turnover.
With the last possession of the half coming up.
10s to go.
Pillsbury with a basket ball screen set by Mitchell for him.
Pillsbury off into the corner.
Three pointer off the mark.
No good rebound taken down by the legs.
Off to Oliver.
Throws it up for three quarter court.
That comes up short.
And that's how the first half ends from the Cross Insurance Center.
It's been a lot of road runners here in the first half, but there's still a first second half a basketball to play score at the half.
You see it on the screen.
The Mount Abraham Roadrunners 30 for the man and not just academy links 16.
How about we take a timeout.
We'll come back with halftime after this.
It's Kearney 2025 live on the state of the Maine Public Television.

Toby Nelson, coach Ken.
Little off is where?
At the half.
3416.
Lead for Mount Abraham over Matanuska.
We have our Bangor Savings Bank halftime report.
And time to look at some of the first half numbers here.
Coach.
Yeah.
Look at the, Mount Abraham Roadrunners, nine from 19.
Not too bad.
A field goal percentage, on the other hand, met another cook shooting very poorly.
They got a poor start putting the ball in the basket.
Only 33% free throws.
Not much of a difference.
Not a lot of turnovers for a fast paced game.
But the the story is Mount Abraham's defense taking that a knock out of their usual rhythm.
And they they started to make some fire buckets late in the half.
So maybe they can get comfortable and continue that into the third quarter and through the second half.
Now look at some of the first half numbers as far as scoring wise for the teams for Mount Abraham Bryce Wilcox with nine points on three three pointers.
Brennan Mitchell with nine points.
Eight points for Chase Ross.
Killian Pillsbury, who has been leading the team as far as scoring only with two.
But he's been just a great floor general.
Oh outstanding.
Yeah.
And two points for Harrison Thomas for for Reagan Lockerbie.
Their total of 34 for Matt and Cook leading the way.
Cooper McCarthy quiet in the first quarter.
Got to go in the second quarter with 7.5 points for Andrew Oliver and, four points for true Weatherby.
Their total of 16.
So 34 to 16.
The score at the half.
The Mount Abram Roadrunners with the lead over the mat and off the Academy links.
Third member of our broadcast team is Jim Baize.
He's standing by with our halftime guest Jim.
All right.
We brought it back by popular demand, the 23rd annual Eastern Maine Sportscasters Summit here.
I got the two big guys with you right here, Ben Barr from channel five in the CW.
And of course, Jack five shooting, Jack Webb, good lord, Jack Webb.
Yeah, exactly.
Actor Jack Webb from, channel seven and Fox 22 here.
It's really just my chance to hang with real sports catches on.
I get to do that a whole lot here, gentlemen.
I'm.
Tell you what, a great year we've had for basketball.
Talk about some of your favorite stories that you had to cover this year.
Well, I've been up here in Burbank over the entire term, and I will say, I got to give credit to pretty much all the fields that I've been able to personally see, because most games have been pretty much close into that fouling at the very end, outside of like the Penobscot Valley Girls buzzsaw that we've seen all tourney season long.
And that's been kind of the second point that I've really enjoyed seeing all of these teams with perfect seasons trying to go for the howlers.
Got it done tonight.
The York boys boys couldn't do it, and Madden Academy came into this one, and they might have to do something pretty historic.
But we'll talk about that the years from now.
You and me.
Okay, Jack, tell us about some of your favorite, things you had to cover this year.
Yeah, I mean, I don't want to go right off, Ben, but that Penobscot Valley girls team is outstanding.
They were one of my first games I ever covered here in the state up here, in the greater Bangor area.
And the dedication they showed all year to buying into what their coaches preach.
And we did a couple stories on them.
And in the amount of heart, blood, sweat and tears they put into it, seeing it all pay off.
That was a really special moment.
Yeah.
I was hoping that one of you had something get you scooped the other guy on, but, I don't know if they get a lot of that here in eastern Maine.
Is that a fair statement?
Hey, we're everywhere, both stations.
They're just covering everybody as best as we can.
These guys are great.
And I think we're doing well to a town very good here.
I want to get a little personal.
Guys on.
Are you, grew up in Pennsylvania, right?
That's right.
We got here, Lancaster area.
If I'm not mistaken.
Yes.
Yes, sir.
Maybe your high school heck, way up valley.
Never did anything in basketball.
A little bit of soccer.
And I'm pretty much scouting for my 76 ers.
Right now at this point.
Very good here.
But tell us when you came to man now they told you in Maine high school basketball is going to be a big thing.
Were you ready for it when you got here?
I learned very, very fast, that's for sure.
We got a bad boy.
Now you're a Thorn Academy guy.
Ready for an academy guy?
A lot of people might not like to hear that, but I got to watch a lot of these tournaments from the bench, as a player.
And it's even more special covering it from the media side.
I mean, when you're part of a team, you're so focused on your guys individual goal to be here since day one of the tournament and see all these teams, see the teams that you saw a couple weekends ago here, right now, trying to finish the job in so many special moments.
The rally, it's been great.
And well, let's see, is there a southern Maine bias coming from you that that do you see things a little differently than what we do up here?
You know what there used to be?
I'll be fully honest.
You used to be.
And I got up here, got to meet people in the communities.
I think if anything, there was North bias for me this year.
I was really rooting for some of these, these North squad.
So it was unu Yes, I to Mike Nelson, while you're at Mike Nelson.
That's my guy right there.
Mr. Nelly AP human geography gave me a B minus.
So.
Well, then.
Well, now we won't go there.
Okay, I owe you.
I owe you one because you had me on the air on channel five your last year at the UMaine Women's Championship.
You guys were in the hallway covering it.
Air.
So, you know, covering basketball for a living there.
I mean, is there anything better than.
No.
Absolutely not.
I mean, there's nothing like Maine high school basketball.
I've covered a lot of a lot of different areas growing up and as a pro.
And we'll see you again maybe when they win it again.
How's that sound?
Very good.
Yeah.
What's been your favorite moment since you've gotten up here?
And just not just passed by any sport whatsoever that you had, maybe, you know, trying to do a little tour of the snack shacks, trying to get the best hot dog.
But, I mean, Ben said it best, you know, a guy coming from out of state, he realizes that this tournament in Maine is unlike any other across the country.
It's so special.
It's just the moments between communities, players, coaches, you know, you can't beat it around the country.
Hey, guys, you hold yourself up.
Well, a lot of wonderful guys.
I've held this spot here in the summer.
We had Throckmorton.
We've had a lot of other wonderful guys in the past.
They're telling me to wrap it up so I can't drop any more names.
Hey, hey, thanks for joining us today, Ben.
We'll see you on the air sometime, right?
Yeah.
Toby, back to you.
All right.
Jim, thanks very much.

Halftime adjustments have been made and we're set to start the second half here in just a moment.
Coach hits 3416.
Mount Abraham with a lead over man.
What do you think the teams are talking about in the locker rooms.
Well I think Coach Mahaney you got to talk about you know with adversity comes opportunity.
And they have to get their mindset positive and they have a chance to do something special.
I don't think they're out of this game by any means.
They can explode.
They just have to.
Some of the shots have to draw that to see the ball go through the basket and then really attack this pressure that Mount Abraham has given them problems with Cooper.
McCarthy takes the inbounds pass to start things off the second quarter.
Our second half underway from the Cross Insurance Center.
McCarthy's got it for Matt Hancock.
Spins in the lane.
Goes right to the glass.
Shot a little bit too hard.
And a rebound pulled down by Mount Abraham up ahead of the pack for Wilcox.
Wilcox off to Pillsbury.
Ross and Wilcox wanted the corner.
Three.
Decided not to take it.
Pulls it from the baseline.
Rattles it home.
Rice you know rapid ball.
Move up by mount Abraham.
They don't they don't waste any time.
They're moving that ball finding the open man and good individual play.
Good shot by Wilcox.
Wilcox into double figures now with 11 points.
First points of the second half belong to the Roadrunners leading it by 20.
Along the baseline going behind the back.
It's Weatherby off the glass and in for Oliver.
Good poise by Weatherby around the basket which he can do.
He's got good footwork now there.
And it was zone and anarchic.
Changing it up a little bit a 1 to 2 zone down low Lockerbie up top.
Pillsbury steps back.
He watch three.
Takes it off the glass.
No good but the rebound comes off to Mount Abraham.
It's Allen Lockerbie inside is that three pointer missed weakside Borg Wilcox pulls up from the baseline.
Gets it to go three opportunities go yeah.
Oh.
3818.
The lead back to 20.
Big guys doing some work know Lockerbie Mitchell Wilcox.
Lot of athletes out on the court for Mount Abraham down the lane.
The runner.
And I believe it's gonna be a blocking foul before the shot.
Not going to count.
Is it goes on Bryce Wilcox.
Let's see if, Matt Hancock can get a little spurt here.
Mount Abraham foul number four, Bryce Wilcox.
Second and ten throws.
It was Jordan.
That's a start.
So Jordan with the bucket.
I to an 18 point ballgame.
Here's Pillsbury.
Pass up top for Mount Abraham as Ross Pillsbury goes down inside Lockerbie puts it up.
No good draws the foul.
So great ball movement there for the Roadrunners.
Outstanding I think everybody touched the ball and had a nice high low action Mitchell to Lockerbie foul number 35.
True.
Weatherby his first foul on true Weatherby.
That's his first.
And the free throw for Lockerbie.
Good account number 15 Reagan Lockerbie.
Reagan Lockerbie had 23 points in the quarterfinal for Mount Abraham is the second shot.
Missed one of two at the free throw line 19 point advantage.
Here's McCarthy weaves his way through shot blocked away and the rebound pulled down by Matt Mount Abraham here's Pillsbury.
Pillsbury lobs it up looking for Lockerbie now stolen right back by Oliver Lynx running into the front court Oliver after McCarthy left side drives throws it in.
And now thrown away by Lockerbie.
Here we go down court off balance runner no good Lockerbie the putback no but he's fouled.
So right now Mount Abraham just beating the links to the punch.
Absolutely.
Pretty good defense by Weatherby.
But you can't he can't keep Lockerbie off the boards right now.
He's been a problem for first team.
Second on Andrew Oliver is his first Lockerbie.
Back to the free throw line.
Or he knocks down the first break.
Take a look.
There's a defense by by Weatherby.
But Lockerbie will not be denied on the offensive glass.
Second shot around it and into the game.
So not able bails them both.
Andrew when I mentioned the class A glass final, boy side Windham wins their second straight championship, beating South Portland 55 to 52.
That's a final from Portland as the inbounds pass thrown away stolen out by the Roadrunners.
Three point try.
Wilcox around and off.
No good.
And it's pulled down by Matt and Drew.
Weatherby into the front court.
Lobs it down inside as the ball is tipped.
Saved in is going to be saved right into Mount Abraham down court.
It goes to Mitchell to the glass.
Lays it in.
Oh my oh my.
Just really athletic.
They convert their defense into instant offense.
Here's McCarthy to the glass shot.
No good for blue shirts all around that one.
No white cards.
Pillsbury for Mount Abraham at the free throw line Mitchell.
And he kicks it out.
Quick ball movement.
Another three point.
Try that one, miss.
So the outside shooting has gone cold here from Mount Abraham in the third quarter.
433 to play in the third as a three point cry on the other end that one off the top of the backboard and it goes out of bounds.
But again, nobody on the offensive glass for the white shirts.
Here's Mitchell that's a defender go by.
Maintains his balance.
There's a strong finish.
No car to McCarthy on him.
And he reaches.
And that's McCarthy's third.
And it's upcoming in the ball game for Matt and Cook writer Osmo to check in on.
No Andrew McCarthy will take a seat Cooper McCarthy.
Personal foul number three team foul of a three hit in the game for Meadowlark Academy.
Number 33 rider Osnos.
Chase Ross.
They work around the perimeter.
This Mount Abraham team pass inside.
Knocked away loose in the floor.
Tied up possession.
Arrow stays with unable.
Now.
Ball alternating possession to Mount.
Abramson.
Roadrunners inbound in front of us.
Comes into Pillsbury staying in that one, two two zone.
Wilcox and a player control foul called illegal screen.
He had a screen on Huckabee.
Mount Abraham foul number five Andrew Rother.
Personal foul number Andrew Rother.
Number five for the two.
Off to Weatherby.
Weatherby.
Top of the key.
Three comes up short.
Goes out of bounds off of Matt Hancock.
Roadrunners inbound in the back court.
Here's Pillsbury.
Off into the front court.
Wilcox and Pillsbury working with it on the perimeter.
Ross Mitchell comes to the high post.
They swing it back across Wilcox fans in the three point try.
Pillsbury got it.
Ross whistle and a travel.
And in the game for Matt Hancock Academy number 25 turned over Carter Milner checking in for Matt Hancock and coming back in for Mount Abraham Harrison, Thomas Harrison Thomas.
Bush Pillsbury doing an excellent job of rotating fresh bodies in this.
We can keep up this fast pace, fast pace and pressure.
Now in the back court.
Double team.
The whistle blocking foul.
Stepping in was Harrison Thomas.
He's called for the foul Thomas got a little too aggressive right there.
Coach Pillsbury not too pleased.
Not able to foul.
That's a third team foul on Mount Abraham.
Team for three minutes.
And 20s to play in the third quarter.
Jordan into the front court for Matt Hancock.
Oliver for three off the side of the rim.
No good rebound.
Taken down on the weak side in the lane.
The runner no good and pulled back off by Mount Abraham running the court as Wilcox.
Wilcox.
Kickout open.
Pillsbury three.
Swish throws going fast again.
Transition basketball starts with the defense starts with the rebound and a push 4620.
Mount Abraham opening the lead to 26.
Now as a ball knocked away and stolen.
Taken out of the hand of the pack.
Here's to the glass.
Wilcox with a nice little 15 points here in this championship game right now.
Just two athletic for Matt and occurred off in the corner.
Open three point.
Try swish Carter Millner answers back after Milner's first points of this championship game.
Wilcox with three off the side of the rim.
No good.
Probably an ill advised heat check there that time.
Sure.
A couple of subs coming in is Lockerbie back in and Mitchell back in.
Cooper McCarthy and for Mount Abraham McCarthy coming back in for Mitchell.
Man to knock Reagan Lockerbie.
Hooper McCarthy in the front court hands it off to Oliver.
Oliver gives it back door as they kick out another three pointer.
That was good.
Here come the links.
Point basket chains Tron games crock for three.
They've answered back with six straight points and a timeout called by Mount Abraham with a minute 58 to play in the third quarter.
It's back down to a 22 point game.
Let's take a look here.
62nd is the penetrating pass and the kickout.
Knocking it down is James dropped back in the game here from number five for the three point shot.
Can't rule anybody else.
Do we have enough time for a comeback here.
One level.
Or at least it makes him feel that he high school quiz show Maine season eight is about to begin.
16 teams from across Maine are competing to see who will be this year's champion and bring home the $1,000 prize level tune in for the season premiere on Thursday, March 20th at eight.
Right here, right on Maine Public Television.
That's coming up in about three weeks.
Time for to see the Road runner.com/keeping his fans on their feet.
4826 the 22 point ball game with a minute 58 to play in the third quarter.
Unable to inbound.
As the inbounds pass by Pillsbury for the Roadrunners comes in to chase Ross and back to Pillsbury.
Pillsbury swings it a court roster now in the game for the Roadrunners wearing number five.
He's got the basketball right now.
Good entry pass inside off the glass.
The shot is good for Brennan Mitchell.
They're able to find Mitchell open in the middle of that zone.
And a chance for a three point play.
Here it is past kind of unguarded and open all over at second I think they went to the zone so they could stop penetration.
But they're getting penetrating passes this this defeating this zone.
Mitchell's free throw miss the rim.
It hit the side of the backboard.
So that's a violation.
Ball turned back over to Matt Hancock with a minute 39 to play in the third.
Lynx need some points.
Yeah right now Mount Abraham and all game long two quick in the backcourt two big and two active in the front court McCarthy gets a screen set for him Mitchell picks him up on the switch Oliver.
Out with trot.
Hands it.
Back off to McCarthy McCarthy.
Good spin.
Move in the lane.
Goes up with a shot.
No good.
Draws the foul.
Center to the free throw line for two shots.
No shots for Cooper McCarthy.
Foul number one Killian.
One thing we should mention about that.
And of course they've only got one senior starter.
And that's, trot.
So these guys will be back next year for the Roadrunners.
Take a look at before rice will cross spin dribble.
Those very.
The hack across the arm.
So McCarthy made the first second free throw is miss.
And the rebound taken off by the Roadrunners with a minute 14 to play in the third quarter.
Ball kicked right by us.
Our cable producer Kurt Cadman over there with Johnny on the spot right there trying to save the camera.
I think I've got agility right here.
Tell you what.
I'm not sure if he'll get out of bed in the morning, but this is pretty quick move.
And a whistle traveling violation on Mount Abrams, and they'll turn it over with a minute.
Five to go in the third.
Well, they got a quick double, and it resulted in a turnover.
So small victories right now for Matt Hancock.
Maybe they can end the quarter with a couple of hoops.
So McCarthy with a minute to play here in the third they clear out for him.
McCarthy dribbles it off his foot and goes out of bounds.
So.
He'll turn it back over.
Roadrunners have it to the south coming in here.
Number 20 Mike Wilkins.
Mike Wilkins I think Coach Pillsbury is going to his best to try to get some guys a little bit of extra time at the end of the quarter.
And they'll likely, hold the ball for the last shot.
Here's Wilcox.
Little's open again.
Pillsbury.
And they'll just work the perimeter.
Ross dribbles out of traffic, gives it back to Pillsbury 30s to play here in the third quarter.
Entry pass to Mitchell, reaching foul on Oliver.
Not at all.
The foul was 34 Andrew Oliver.
Personal foul.
Number three.
Team foul.
Number five.
That's a 15 foul.
It'll send Oliver to the free throw.
Excuse me Oliver with a foul Mitchell going to the free throw line for a couple.
First one off the front rim.
No good.
He'll get one more after the game for the Roadrunners.
Number five Andrew Rother.
Rother coming back in his roster coming in for Mitchell.
They have to change that because he was going in for the shooter.
As a free throw good.
He'll get one more.
Second shot around and off.
No good.
Goes out of bounds off McCarthy.
You hit your hand last year.
What have you.
All stays with the Roadrunners.
Just under 30s to play in the third quick swing pass.
Mount Abraham playing for the final shot.
Possibly.
Ross hands off.
Throw it away.
It.
Ball script and it goes out of bounds off Matt Hancock.
That was tipped off Jordan and it goes out of bounds.
Good quick hands by Mount Abraham.
Upstanding.
They've done it all game.
Watch this.
Nice pass it goes Jordan right off his foot.
Crossed the deflection off of Jordan's over legs.
Hillsboro with nine seconds.
Swings it across I've got to go quickly.
Here's Mitchell Mitchell got a step on his man.
Kicks out to the corner.
That was back out.
Pillsbury at the buzzer off the side of the rim.
No good.
And that's how the third quarter ends here from the Cross Insurance Center after three it's Mitchell Abraham 51.
Man it knocked up 27.
Fourth quarter action comes your way after this on the state of the Maine Public Television.

At the Cross Insurance Center.
Kobe Nelson, the coach.
Ken little off as we get set for fourth quarter action.
5127 lead for Mount Abraham over the Mackinaw.
Cook links the links trying to get some things going here early on in the fourth quarter to see if they can get back in this one.
On Abraham.
Roadrunners been firing on all cylinders for most of the game.
Pass inside, ball thrown out of bounds and it's turned over.
Good defensive recovery that time by Wilcox who got the deflection off of the body of a man of player links coming out with full court pressure.
On Abraham will have to face it here down the stretch.
They'll have to get quickly into the front court.
This coming to the front court.
Nice pass inside Lockerbie puts it up and in right here.
Lockerbie.
That's what's going to happen if you have full court pressure.
Yeah against this team.
Not sure if they ever have a way to defend them today Jordan off into the corner.
This is Ritchie for three.
The miss Rebound comes away to Mount Abram quickly down court as the pass to Lockerbie stolen taken back by Richie.
And here come the links the other way Oliver.
Underneath off the glass.
And in that goes for game strong.
Right now with five points.
And into the front court Wilcox tries a three and it misses everything.
And a foul.
Former coach Pillsbury didn't like the shot.
Let's take a look.
Here's the hit ahead pass.
Rod finishes it in.
Has more of that as pressure free Isaac Ritchie his first foul on an Isaac Ritchie that's his first at Mount Abraham.
The inbound mount able to five in.
Who's the comes in along the baseline Lockerbie.
The layup is good and the foul.
And you know we talk about some of the players on this team coach.
But Lockerbie he's played a really good role for Mount Abraham.
That was outstanding.
He hasn't done much wrong that's for sure.
Involved.
So he comes off the rub screen by Mitchell Mitchell.
And Lockerbie works really well as a tandem.
As a ball tied up on the miss.
The possession arrow favors Mount Abraham.
So cultivating possession going to be missed.
The free throw.
But the Roadrunners will keep it on the alternating possession as Pillsbury to inbound just over a minute gone by in the fourth quarter comes into Pillsbury puts the shot up and in.
That's again Lockerbie.
Can't let him can't get to find him on the out-of-bounds play.
Pillsbury got it to Lockerbie as McCarthy jumped tied up in the back court, alternating possession will favor Matanuska, Truman.
True.
Weatherby back in for Matanuska, and Oliver will take a seat.
No let up and pressure for Mount Abraham, 5729, is back up to a 28 point game matching their biggest lead was inside the shot off the glass.
No good.
Rebound taken out by Lockerbie.
Up ahead to Mitchell Mitchell goes with the crossover as he's pushed from behind.
That'll send him to the free throw line for a couple.
They have that guy getting out on every shot.
And they're getting a ton of transition off from the county.
Foul number 46.
Again the pass could be with the head to ahead to his partner Prime Mitchell.
For McCarthy with a five at the 30s for Mitchell's first free throw is good in the game for the Lynx.
Number 44 Andrew Oliver and from unable from for Bryce Wilcox.
Number ten Harrison Thomas.
Second shot here for Mitchell.
And that one is good.
So he's two of two from the free throw line.
It's up to a 30 point lead.
This is the biggest lead of the game for Mount Abraham along the baseline Richie nice pass behind the back to Weatherby.
Shot's good now.
Good.
Poise around the basket once again by Weatherby.
Maintains his poise maintains his balance.
So nice Ali Pillsbury his third cause for boys.
Weatherby at the line bears his shoulders and lays it in.
So Weatherby at the free throw line.
Eight points in this championship game for Weatherby.
Make it nine as he cans the free throw.
He hasn't had many touches either.
They had a high low set for him early, but we haven't seen much of that.
Pillsbury gets it down court off the Thomas pulls up in the lane.
The shot no good.
And the rebound pulled off by Matt Cook.
McCarthy step back three point try swish play Cooper McCarthy pass down court thrown away by Oliver.
So again it was a 30 point game.
Back down to 24 right now.
And the Lynx starting to hit some shots off in the corner Richie Ritchie for three is 3009 in a row here for Matanuska a timeout called by Mount Abraham.
So it was 59 to 29.
They've ripped off nine straight.
And a timeout called by the Roadrunners has just really right now coach taking some ill advised shots.
And they're playing.
You know they've been playing fast all game.
And so why wouldn't they run our summer.
But Matt Hancock state in taking advantage getting some open threes and some easy book championships.
So avoid all this crowd.
Everyone's got to focus on getting back on defense.
Protecting those easy looks, protecting the basket on the road.
Testing shooter.

Hillsborough has got it out front.
Hill drive the lane pass inside off the glass and in that one goes and the foul.
So when they need an answer, they go inside.
It's Mitchell that time Pillsbury comes off the screen turns the corner I think I see it here.
Here he goes.
Turning the corner for that one bounce pass.
But he's been so effective with all night.
Has the free throws good driving Mitchell.
So Brennan Mitchell played a heck of a championship game.
Here's McCarthy along the baseline Oliver floats it up.
No good and a foul.
And I'll send Oliver to the free throw line for two shots.
Oh it goes on number 11.
That's Chase Ross foul.
Number 11.
Chase Ross is second team second at the line.
Number 34.
It's a second on the team Oliver at the free throw line to shoot a couple.
As the first one around it in.
We'll get one more here.
The second shot is around it off.
No good rebound taken down by Mitchell Mitchell up ahead.
Pillsbury.
Getting down near the five minute mark.
Ross.
Double team.
Mitchell swings it off to Pillsbury Mitchell.
Such quick decisions with the ball.
They're hard to guard.
They don't get themselves and many problems in terms of double teams.
Here's Wilcox.
Look Cox with 15 points in the state final.
Quick passing right now for Mount Abraham.
They've run a 35 seconds off the clock.
Pillsbury got a lane gives it inside Mitchell and and Lockerbie lost it and stolen away.
Taken out by Matt Hancock with Weatherby.
Oh excuse me with a McCarthy off to Oliver.
Oliver steps back for three.
It's good.
And the foul.
Three point basket and the ball.
So Oliver hits the three.
Here's Oliver bomb for what Salisbury gets rid of it to whether it be back to Oliver.
Hits it gets the foul.
Now a chance for a four point play.
And they've cut ten points off the biggest deficit.
Now to 20 as Oliver's free throw is good though Andrew Oliver.
Pillsbury almost lost it but he gets it into the front court.
There's a pass inside Lockerbie puts it up around it in.
Guess what?
You need a basket.
Go to the big fella.
He hasn't missed too many.
Jack up to a 21 point advantage.
Here's McCarthy McCarthy steps back for three off the front rim.
No good.
Long rebound comes out to Matanuska.
Out to Richie McCarthy on the drive.
Goes to the glass.
Lays it up a little too high.
Rebound saved by Mount Abraham.
Pillsbury no Wilcox three and a half to go.
And we get a whistle.
Foul on Matt Hancock.
Foul.
Number 30.
Over the limit.
Now that's their fifth number four.
That's Oliver's fourth.
And yeah that's a 15 foul.
So Mount Abram going to the free throw line for two Bryce Wilcox to shoot two at the line for Mount Abraham 19 points for Mitchell Wilcox with 1515 for Lockerbie oh.
Unofficial is the first free throw.
Good.
In the game for Matt off Academy number two Avery Jordan and for Mount Abraham.
Number five Andrew Walker.
And one more here for Brennan Mitchell.
That one around and off.
No good rebound taken down by Ritchie.
So one of two with the free throw line.
Oh knocked away by Pillsbury.
On Abraham the Roadrunners looking for their first ever gold ball three minutes and 10s away from getting their whistle traveled.
Oh it's turned over ball back to Matt Hancock.
But Coach Pillsbury got to give him a lot of credit for getting his team ready to play, steering them through an outstanding season.
And his predecessor, John Chase, is on his staff.
He coached them last year.
It puts him in position to win a southern Maine title last year.
And they lost to Monmouth last year in the regional championship, and this year they beat Monmouth in the regional championship after losing to them.
That's their only loss in the regular season.
Was Damon enough?
Us got it back in the playoffs and 253 away from Bring It Home.
A goal by Rother as second teams for Andrew Rother call for the foul.
Avery Jordan no.
Jordan's free throw.
First one's good.
But as you mentioned for Matt Hancock there's only one senior on this team.
So right bulk of these kids coming back next year.
And for that.
And also on the other side you know Mount Abraham loses two starters, Will Wilcox and Lockerbie.
So they come back with the Pillsbury again.
Mitchell, who's outstanding, has had an outstanding game as a sophomore.
Chase Ross, another sophomore miss shot as the three point.
Try that one off the rim.
No good new player in the game is Landon Seely format and McCook.
As a whistle and a foul on the lakes with 242 to go.
But get some youngsters some experience in there.
Here in this state championship venue are two Avery Jordan first Avery Jordan, call for the foul is a good shot of, there's an article about Wilcox and a after a missing two.
Wilcox.
You might be able to see it right here.
He got it knocked out, and sometimes he wears it well.
Got it back in.
I was going to say he didn't have it there for a second.
And he has the second free throw around the rim and off.
No good.
Missed.
And both rebound taken down Matt and Cook off into the corner Ritchie for three off the side of the rim.
No good.
And rebound.
Pulled away by Pillsbury.
Bounce pass up ahead for the Roadrunners and they'll kick it out.
Wilcox.
All knocked away.
Comes right back to Wilcox now Pillsbury little runner that one's good.
Pillsbury.
This, superior quickness.
Can't say that.
Can't say it enough on knocked away.
Loose on the floor.
A whistle and a foul.
That'll go on Mount Abraham.
Is it goes on.
Wilcox.
Let's take a look here for Bryce Wilcox.
There's Pillsbury with the floater up and in.
McCarthy to the free throw line to shoot two.
At the line from Eleanor Cook Academy.
Number 4206 to go.
That separates Mount Abraham Roadrunners from a gold bar sitting over on the over on the scorers table right now for a shots.
Good first ever in the game for Mount Abraham over ten and Harrison Thomas.
And Matt and off of the helmet number 23 Landon Seeley.
McCarthy.
Second is good.
Two of two at the free throw line.
He'll check out the legs.
Number two Avery Jordan.
Front court for Mount Abraham.
They're gonna empty their bench here in just a moment.
Harrison.
Thomas up along the sideline.
Pillsbury has got it.
And Pillsbury fouled.
The minute 49 to play.
Really outstanding performance.
They never took their foot off the gas either 23 I don't know.
Cook made a couple of attempts but just too much.
Pillsbury.
His first free throw is good.
McCarthy and Oliver coming back at the three.
And boy number ten wholesale substitutions here.
Owen Cook in for Mount Abraham off.
Ben Bollinger checking in.
Number 20.
Mike Wilkins in for the Roadrunners.
Second shot by Pillsbury.
No good.
Rebound to put Mack off the glass and and throw and couple.
Coming in scoring in the first two seconds McCarthy kickout three point.
Try that one off the side of the rim.
No good.
Rebound pulled down by Mo Abraham and a foul on Cooper McCarthy.
That'll be his fifth.
And more subs coming in from out Abraham following the 22 A personal foul by number 24 Matt Williams checking in.
Number 21.
Skyler Love in.
As a first free throw is good of Ben Bull.
You're getting his name into the score column in the state finals.
Second shot is around.
No good.
Rebound pulled down by Weatherby Martin off of Academy number two Avery Jordan's now into the front court is trot.
As pushing foul on Mount Abraham on Matt Williams.
Offsides in the bonus now.
So first ball at the line Jordan will try to pick up two more points Avery Jordan at the free throw line.
First one's good.
Into the game for the Lynx.
Number 23 Landon Seeley Landon Seely coming back in for Matt and McCook.
And the second shot.
That one's good.
Two of two with the free throw line 7148 up the sideline.
Another foul.
Matt at all Kathy follows number 23 Landon Seeley at the line.
Number 24 Matt Williams Matt Williams hitting the free throw line.
So a couple.
Off the bench is Williams first.
Free throw is no good.
He'll get one more for the Academy.
Number 37 Koby Savage checking in Andrew Oliver back in.
As the second shot.
That one's good Matt Williams into the scoring column.
Jordan gives it off to Oliver Oliver for three.
Off the rim.
No good rebound pulled off by Mount Abraham down to a minute.
Seven to play.
Williams has it.
Tries to pass it down inside and stolen away.
Taken out by Jordan with under a minute to play in this one.
Shot missed.
Rebound.
Taken down by Mount Abraham.
As the outlet pass up ahead.
The love.
Skyler love kicks it out.
Wilkins as it throw is stolen.
Throwing it away up to Oliver.
And Oliver lays it off the rim.
Can't get it to go.
Rebound pulled down by Mount Abraham.
And that kind of night for Matt and coach.
As bully air for three off the back rim.
No good rebound taken down.
Nice pass inside off the glass.
No good but a foul heading to the free throw line for a couple.
And also that kind of night for Mount Abraham.
Picking up another offensive rebound.
Oh and cook with a rebound Williams heading to the free throw line for a couple.
Savage mixing is better credit union.
See here.
There's the offensive rebound for gets the foul and then shoot two Kobi Savage called for the foul.
First free throw for Williams is good on that play 7348 Matt Williams the senior guard number 15 with the offense, gets himself in the scorebook for the 22 teams for.
And the second shot.
That one's good.
Two of two for Williams.
More subs coming in for Matt and up 13 Logan Martinez, Liam Walsh, Eric Air checking in trying to get the names here.
These new players Isaac Ricky is now in the game as well from quality urgent care reliably fast and number 50 Landon Arthur is Jackson County.
You're never far from the care you need to find a clinic that can be helpful.
It comes in for the links to Richie.
Off to Arthur's tries.
Three.
He comes up short.
Rebound loose.
Picked up by Mount Abraham as Williams and traveling violation.
So a turnover.
As the ball comes back to Matt Hancock with six seconds to go.
They've been waiting 55 years for this in the towns of Phillips, Avon, Kingfield and Strong.
The Mount Abraham Roadrunners can call themselves state champs.
What a great performance all around.
Just too much quickness for Matt and all Cooke.
They they got to knock on their heels early, made them uncomfortable and took advantage of every single thing.
Too much quickness in the back court, too much relentless size and the front court.
Tough combination.
They tasted defeat last year in the Southern Maine championship game, but they come away with a goal ball.
This year is the Mount Abraham Roadrunners, the 2025 boys class C state champions.
So you get a chance to go through the handshake line.
They'll rip down the nets, we'll get the awarding of all the medals and the runner up plaque and of course the gold basketball.

Let's send it over to Jim Baynes right now.
He's got the victorious group of Roadrunners Jim.
All right.
First time ever the Roadrunners state champions I got to get first the seniors in here Bryce and Reagan.
They're gentlemen.
As the seniors you get the first word here.
Your thoughts are finally in your senior year getting a state title.
Oh, man.
It feels amazing.
I've wanted this since freshman year, and I knew we could do it.
And we finally pulled it off this year.
And it's just an amazing experience for sure.
All right.
You're getting quite a number threes out there too.
I mean did it feel just really safe.
And what I'd say.
But but just easy to play it out here.
Yeah.
Practice felt good down here on Wednesday.
And we showed up ready to play.
And we played hard.
Very good.
How awesome was Brendan today?
Oh I love that guy so much.
Let's talk about the senior leadership these guys have.
I mean you still got another couple of years here as a road runner.
What do these guys mean to you.
Oh they're awesome.
They're my dog.
And I think right now yeah I was you know, in preparation I was reading up on you guys here.
I was looking at the regionals and you did.
It did well.
You won by eight points.
Two points, nine points.
Then you come out here and you beat matter, not just by over 20.
Here.
Was this your best basketball you played all year?
I'd say it's one of the best, for sure.
But, you know, the South put some day.
Yeah.
What's your thoughts on that?
Who's your best basketball today?
Yeah I agree yeah we played 32 minutes of great basketball today.
Should be good.
And you have I mean honestly when you take a look at the numbers here you guys move the ball like I haven't seen in quite some time.
Is that most of your practice of this week.
Yeah.
Just moving it around.
Yeah.
We're so unselfish.
We all work together you know let's get coaching here.
Who gets where we get that day.
What I'm just yep.
Off this direction over here.
We want everybody to see out there.
Yeah.
Well I mean I I'm still amazed by the way you guys move the ball.
And as I was telling your guys there, I mean, you did well in the regionals, but, this was, well, you put up an early 24.4 to lead.
And these guys.
I mean, what's your point?
Is this your best basketball?
I I've been saying we haven't played 32 minutes all year.
It was definitely, it could have been our best 32 minutes.
We we still, No, we played well, super happy.
Offensively, they do move the ball well.
They share the ball and chase hit some big shots early and, got us going and and you know, we shot well and the bigs the bigs had a big night inside on the boards and yeah, just a team effort.
And, these guys play for each other and they play together.
And, so super proud of them.
Yeah.
And now you're going to go down as the coach of the first, state champions for the Roadrunners.
I know you want to be humble about it, but but let's let's kind of pass the, the pass the get pass the credit over here a little bit here.
I mean, what makes these guys so special as compared to any, Mount Abraham team of before?
Well, I just think they play together.
They they're they're unselfish.
They they pass.
They they rule for each other.
One kid has 21 night, someone else the next night, but they just they play to play for each other.
I mean, and they work hard.
They work they've they've worked hard all year.
They just battle.
Okay.
All right.
Roadrunners, bring it and bring it in.
Guys want to say, hey, congratulations.
We're gave it one final road.
What are y'all tell the camera what it's like to be state champs.
What do.
You have the Mount Abraham Roadrunners.
They are the class C state champions.
