Four years ago, we got Chippewa City property back on the beach there.
Today we're getting 80 plus acres back.
Not on reservation, but just off the reservation.
This all started decades ago with, Norman Ducharme working towards what we're doing today.
It's a historic land back opportunity that happened for Grand Portage, working with the Elk Johnson Foundation.
I think it's really important part of this is that, it's another piece of land that Grand Portage has got outside the reservation boundaries, which is unheard of.
So it's like I said, it's a historic day for Grand Portage.
Today is a deeply powerful and meaningful day.
It has been something that we have been working on, not only specifically this land transfer for the last year and a half, but, you know, but but as a foundation for the last four years, I would say we have been working steadily to understand the past and to address that history.
I just appreciate everybody that came to the event today.
You know, it is truly, truly a historic event for the Grand Portage people.
