Between the Caribou Vikings and the Biddeford Tigers.
And good afternoon, everyone.
I'm Dave Cheever along with Karen Magnuson.
We have our floor reporter Greg Lipinski standing by as well.
Karen, first game of foreign here today.
And this is going to be a good one.
It's going to be exciting.
We were talking about this last night going, this is a game.
We're so excited to be able to sit, watch and talk about teams that have not seen each other.
But boy, that they familiar with how each other plays well, they play somewhat similar.
They both love to play with pace.
They like to be able to get up and apply pressure.
And there's a lot of talent on both.
Yeah, they have a skill kid in the middle and they've got quick guards.
It's going to be fun.
Greg Levinsky had a chance to chat with the visiting coach, Kayla Brown from the Caribou Vikings.
Coach made a long drive down a great fan section here already.
What was the vibe and atmosphere like in the locker room before the game?
You're also excited.
We're super happy to be here.
We expected a big crowd looking out there at the crowd.
There's nothing like it.
It, you know, it's still a surprise.
Even though we expected a lot of people.
Obviously you didn't see Biddeford in the regular season.
What do you know about them and what do you want to see from your team against the Tigers?
Yeah, an unfamiliar opponent.
We've really only seen them on video, but they're, they've got some really good guards and tough guard play, really fast and athletic.
We're going to have to be able to take care of the ball and stay composed offensively, so we don't turn it over.
All right.
Good luck coach.
Back to you guys.
Thank you very much Greg.
Terrible came down yesterday I think most of caribou came down yesterday.
We got a great crowd in here behind us.
We'll get a chance to look at them.
But across the way the Biddeford Tigers are here in force as well.
This is history making for Janine parodying her kids.
Yes, about both groups.
This is what they wanted and their communities wanted just as much.
And that's the showing of all these fans.
I was walking in with some caribou fans.
I said, how long your travel?
They said, five hours and another one yells worth every minute of it.
And then they all started yelling.
And that's what it's about.
They're all excited to be here regardless of how far they came.
Well, speaking of Janine Parity, Greg Levinsky had a chance to catch up with her as well.
Coach, your team has ten underclassmen, but you have a great senior leader as well in his legacy.
Yes.
How has this team come together at the right time?
They've just been working hard together all season long.
We've talked about what we can do to control the atmosphere, the things that we can manage, and to not worry about the things that we cannot.
And I think that the kids have really bought into that.
And it's really shown in the last second half of our season, especially in the tournament last week.
What's the game plan for caribou game plan for caribou is just to continue to do what we do best play hard nosed defense, hit the shots that we can, rebounds.
We're not going to change anything based on who we're playing.
We're just going to continue to play our game and do it well.
Good luck.
Thank you very much.
Back to you guys.
Thank you very much, Greg.
And now let's take a look at the road to Gold.
So you've got caribou coming in 21 and Biddeford 16 and five.
And you look at it thinking 16 to 5.
They had five losses.
Their strength of schedule is incredible.
They're competing against the best in the South and outside of their class.
So although there's their record isn't as great as caribou there.
Winds are tremendous ones.
So when you watch both these groups, they're averaging about the same points allowed or about the same.
You know, they're both in battle tested.
And at this point, none of that matters because you've gone to this game.
It's one game, but you've got to put it out on the floor and do your best.
And I think both teams have gone, what, seven, eight and occasionally nine girls deep getting meaningful minutes, not just toss away minutes, meaningful minutes.
And they've come up big on both ends.
So that's part of the reason why we've anticipated this particular game, because they come from opposite ends of the state, but they play such similar styles.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
They play a lot of similar styles.
But what's really fun is you look at Biddeford well-rounded, like you're looking at stats.
It averages ten, averages eight, averages eight, average seven.
When you look at Cariboo, the one that sticks out is Madeline Day.
She's got to have a great game, and it doesn't always have to be scoring.
She just has to find ways to impact the game for her teammates.
And she's got so many good players around her that also make her a better player.
And youth will be served.
We got plenty of it out here.
There we have the horn.
As teams go to the respective benches.
Cameras already over there.
Biddeford girls were a little concerned.
Janine told me that they wanted to wear their away black uniforms because they thought they looked better on TV, but, you know, every team goes.
There's those discussions.
It's not just Biddeford.
Well, let's find out who these kids are.
Well, we have the introduction of the rosters and the starting lineups.
He's going to join us in 20s.
The man.
Ready?
We're ready though.
We are ready.
I just I we've been ready since last night.
Yeah.
You came down early.
You parked on the.
I parked on the wrong.
I'll be honest, I don't travel here often.
I did not get a good parking spot.
Get members of the Biddeford band still filling in.
I like it.
I'm waiting for lacrosse.
Before introducing the teams.

And.
I.
Have.
Many.
Other.
Kids have spent some time in the music room.
Don't you think I was?
That was amazing.
That was a nice arrangement.
I, you know, I was never musically inclined.
What about you?
Well, I could listen to it.
Was real.
I can tell what's talent, and that's talent.
I just could never do anything.
That was amazing.
That was beautiful.
Westeros standing here, bouncing the ball out in front of us.
Good assignment for him.
One of the top officials in the state of Maine.
And that's what we tend to see when we get to the state championship games.
As I said, first of four games in here today, boys, me will follow this one.
And then the double leg games in here tonight.
Fun day basketball.
Glad you could join us on Maine Public Television.
Happy that we get to start at Maddie Dupree Jordan Crump.
That is a matchup that I'm so excited to watch.
Oh, and you've already cited it.
You know foul trouble on either team.
That's going to test.
Here we go.
Separate wins.
The opening tap free.
Levick picks up the dribble looking for somebody in uniform.
And Trump.
Out high on defense.
Tips the pass away and back on the Biddeford Tigers opening possession.
Silva for three.
High rebound.
They reset.
Crump directing traffic.
So far looking man to man on defense.
Silva.
Trying to watch Gia masiello.
Crump comes back to Mariella for three.
Little strong.
Smart play by Lambert letting the ball go out of bounds.
Caribou will start in the back court.
And this is what I was excited to see.
They're both really talented groups.
What were they going to do.
Are they going to cross are going to play man half court.
Well modest pressure in the back court.
Late pressure.
Yeah.
On the dribble.
When Corrigan comes to that break in the lane.
Puts it up.
Gets her own rebound.
Curls it up and is fouled.
First one on Crump.
I'll tell you her steps like she just made a quick jab but just slightly got her defender off.
And then she it got her board back.
She's so strong and so tough to court.
And she plays the angles well in the paint to where she had a pretty good idea.
She missed where that ball was going to go.
Right.
Well whoever shoots it right.
You have a pretty good idea of where that's going.
And she was in a great position to be able to go get it.
She opens the scoring with two free throws.
The first two points of the game Mary Yellow drives over to Silva deep back across to Silva.
Off balance baseline jumper.
What you're going to see what I love right now they are playing.
They're attacking.
They're taking the shots they normally take.
You didn't know them being young.
Would they be more patient on offense.
But they're come out just as strong as they did at home.
Just haven't converted almost to the floor.
Are they counting.
Did they get it over.
There's the 10s.
That's a good play defensively and looks like they haven't converted on offense.
But they are locked in on defense to get it back.
And they have energy like they're up already seven nothing.
Mariella on the dribble calls out the play.
Crump into the lane.
Foot pass.
And just like that that's going to hit the net.
And that's a legacy.
Great read by Crump.
Creating that done.
Janine he thinks that legacy is going to have a big game today or 1000 nice play by live Adam.
Again nice pass legacy looking to Silva Gabrielle.
And they say she traveled shuffle the feet.
They get that really quite a bit behind the high school three point line.
There.
Yeah well may have influenced it.
Well honestly she can hit five people on that two.
So I mean that is it is tough these lines.
There's quite a few of them.
But these kids can hit from anywhere.
If Craig tries to get around the gas and touch puts up the little runner good.
That's a tough matchup.
She is so good at getting you on her hip and then being able to read the second defenders.
And so far, no help.
Silva to Silva.
Lagasse high rebound is going to come down with it.
Jet.
Jet with Adams ahead of her she was picking the ball up I think going to look for the pass and shuffle the feet herself.
I think she saw her but was trying to get like one dribble out to make a better pass.
With that, her strength.
Mariana comes into Crump.
Injury Karen picking up Crump and walking around with her.
Crump on her and again directing traffic.
Crump drives on, gets right.
Puts up.
Little turnaround.
Jumper kept alive and picked off by Silva.
And called for traveling again.
Great job trying to create a second chance for her team though.
Getting that offensive rebound and a Smith comes in for the Tigers.
Janine parities saying to Gabby Silva or Natalie Silva, Slow down a little bit.
Let the game come to you.
That parade gets by Lagasse again, puts up the runner again and hits again.
It's so tough because she's taking that shot about a foot or two in from the foul line.
Mario coming out finds Crump.
To look at.
Goes to the floor.
Out of bounds Biddeford having a hard time getting going here.
And we're going to have another sub coming in.
Gabby Smith coming in.
And they're going to who's coming out.
It's going to be Crump coming to the sideline for the Tigers again Biddeford once they hit 1 or 2 you're going to see them start to take off.
They can really shoot it.
They just got to see one go through.
They seeing her third defender comes into the lane again.
Fall back to Harris.
Good.
You see how she pins her defender on her back.
So she takes away that defender.
And then she's looking ahead of what space.
And giving me eight point lead here for the Vikings in the early going deep right I heard it.
That was a big slap.
She got hit hard on that one.
Gabby she was going to line for two.
And Crump is going to come back in for Biddeford.
I think Caleb Brown is suggested to Maddie different.
You go until they stop you.
If they haven't stopped her they haven't yet.
But again she's not.
What's difficult as a help is right in front of that rim.
And she's being able to shoot it right in the top of the paint.
So if you're going to close out that high, your man is going to be open on the block to the close off.
It's got to come to the wings.
Second free throw is not good.
So it remains ten two.
This is a matchup I want to see.
Crump already has one foul.
I pray good defense.
Very good defense Karen comes to Levac.
Karen into the lane comes out.
The debris drives on Crump.
How's that arm out there.
It gets double.
Team looks for help.
Comes to Karen and she travels.
That was Maddie is playing maestro here for that basketball.
A Crump did a great job of keeping her in front.
And you seen that replay?
They stepped up.
It's Mike.
Still.
It's hard to come by the kick ahead.
Without him that little tough.
And Janine Faraday wants a timeout a timeout.
Oh, is that loud?
Can you hear me?
Yeah I think I can.
You got caribou right behind us.
Boy.
I'll tell you, I love up north.
I don't know if I could move up there, but if I could, it might be caribou.
Yeah.
I just I want to be a fan.
Yeah.
Well, I want to be one of those.
They're well-represented at this point.
It's amazing.
Well, two is our score.

Biddeford has to get on track offensively, but right now they're getting the shots.
The shots aren't falling.
It was it.
It's just got to settle in for them.
They're going to hit some shots and they're going to get some confidence.
The biggest thing is they got to make sure they get back in transition.
There's that one piece you got to take away.
Take away Caribous transition.
Smyth steps in.
It's fouled.
Took it right at Lily Bell attacking the rim.
Not just settling for shots.
But they're going to have to be able to shoot it in this game too.
Well one of the things had a chance earlier in the week to talk to Janine Purdy and said if they had made their free throws, there would be a lot better and.
There it is.
You know, that's that's a good way to start.
It is in a Smyth is at the line to shoot the two makes good on the first.
Coming back on the floor is Mia masiello you know get the jitters out.
Long way to go in this 253 first quarter I nine point lead for the Vikings.
Why would they have jitters.
They only start three freshmen.
Yes.
Often.
Two good from the line Karen hands it back to depraved.
Do everything kid for the caribou Vikings.
Crump and Paul goes to the floor and they tie it up.
Possession.
Arrow Biddeford.
Trump has been a tremendous defender in this in this tourney.
That's just I love watching how strong she is, how she moves her body to get to the basketball.
But Caleb Brown is so confident with what he can do on the dribble and passing.
Yeah, that's a great security blanket.
Gasol.
She's had a couple of those go in and out.
And that's the one she needs to go through.
Oh.
Ball tipped away by Mary Low.
And oh that I went between a Bedford's drinks I think they said no one touched it.
They had a better angle.
I will say that on the other side of us Mary Ellen DaSilva there it is, long range, like I see no.
Again.
Look, hands.
And now we're going to get caribou ball.
I love that play though.
I love seeing kids dive on the floor for the ball because they just want it.
It's a great hustle play.
Magashi would have preferred the foul call on that.
I think she took the worst contact.
Nice steal by Mary Elam now needs some help.
Smyth in the front court.
Cross court.
And Natalie and Natalia Silva.
Crump takes up the dribble.
Comes to legacy with gassy.
A little hard on the bounce pass.
It'll be a terrible Viking ball.
They're doing great things are making good movement.
Two people cut at the same time.
I think they were.
They didn't know where it was going and then it bounced off of her.
But still they're not standing and watching that, trying to create.
They got tied up Mary Ella good Jordan Crump had Maddie defray.
And it was difficult for her to move.
So they missed on the inbounds play the steal the basket.
It's a four point game.
We knew all along it was going to come back to this right.
It wasn't going to be continuing that caribou was going to score.
They made their run and it's going to be a ball game this whole way.
You're looking for something to do.
Little fingers.
Check out the Maine Public Basketball Facebook page.

That's it.
Facebook.
Not common public people 12 eight.
Our score.
Careful with the ball and the defensive pressure is now outstanding.
Full court.
Angie.
Karen looking for her.
Do everything guard Maddie defray gets around Trump.
Mary Aiello picks it up to throw it up and in.
Wow is a carry on the drive.
And I'm not saying they're fouls to come back.
Almost got down on the gas.
He doesn't collect on the pass Vikings get the ball back I mean and again I'm not saying they were fouls.
But she got tapped at least 3 or 4 times and fought through all of that.
I imagine that's happened over the course of the season.
Oh yeah.
Let's watch her handle.
Again crossover dribble kicks the ball back to Karen.
Karen.
Yeah.
And that's where it's tough.
If they hit shots.
And that's going to be hard to stop.
They play.
And everyone else flip up.
My legacy is not good but it remains good to back basketball thriller back back on the floor and live Adams checks out for the Vikings under a minute to play.
First quarter nine point lead for the Northern Maine champs.
Smyth hands it off to Mary ello Mary ello.
So far, the Biddeford Tigers have not changed the game plan.
Lagasse still struggling from the floor.
Step right down with it.
Takes a look.
She's number 25 and white ahead of her.
And now behind her.
Half picked off by Lagasse.
Crump on the run up.
The left side looks inside to Silva.
Pulls up for three.
Going be short and out of bounds.
Right?
I mean you're watching.
This is they're exerting so much energy to press and the game's not slowing down.
So I think she just need a little bit more legs there.
But you could see now she's working hard.
And this is a big assignment right here to be able to keep that on day play in front of you.
Her ball handling skills are impressive.
Incredible.
Three seconds, two seconds, one second.
It's got to go up.
And it does.
But it doesn't come in at the end of one quarter of play.
Girls class B state championship game.
The Cariboo Vikings 17, Bedford Tigers eight.
Don't go away.
We got three more quarters coming right back at you.

We're back at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.
The class B state championship for girls.
Cariboo Vikings with a nine point lead.
And their all star all everything player Maddie Duprey on the dribble drives on Crump, puts it up.
A little bit of contact.
She goes to the floor.
No foul called.
Ainsley Carron with a cheap looking for some room.
Comes to the left corner to Levick.
Good call on the run.
Leaves it short out of the pack.
Gabby Silva back to Mia Marullo.
Biddeford spreads the floor on offense.
Again, short.
From long distance.
Karen.
It toward.
Oh.
Have.
Adams.
Nice spin.
Move, move.
Ball doesn't drop Trump.
Bring it back.
Splits the defense.
Now.
Biddeford has done that a couple times.
Not even just on a rebound but even on a made basket.
They are getting it out quickly trying to attack before Kemba sets up defensively.
Nice job creating that split Ainsley Karen on the foul.
Saw the reaction.
And she's just such a special player.
Only a sophomore.
We just watching how she loves to take on defensive assignments.
She has great leadership.
She I was listening to her talk to her teammates saying we've got to get back on defense.
She's communicating.
She's competing.
Everything you want in a game like this.
All right.
On the dribble.
Corrigan comes to Karen Karen watch primary low brings it back to card and she looks inside trying to find number 15.
Now does Maddie Duprey dribbles it off her shin.
You see Maddie wants to post up.
She wants to try to create something with her.
Back to the basket.
Oh, there's the travel.
Yeah.
Liv Adams, she had the pass in mind.
Well, and it's tough because if you're going to put debris on the block, you're taking the ball out of her hands.
But she's effective, too.
On the block because she does have to create it from the top of the key.
In the corner, Crump takes a look at Ainsley.
Karen.
They come into the lane.
Lagasse up.
No good.
Step right down to the rebound.
Back she comes on the run from stops.
That and the ball goes out of bounds off the hands of the back.
That was a nice stop by by Biddeford to be able to stop her at the three point line and make her give it up a lot earlier.
Instead of scoring position.
Kemba's playing it at the pace they want.
I mean, you know, how are you going to slow her down anyway?
I oh yeah.
Mary Ellen comes to Crump.
Crump has NZ Karen stay with her Karen Crump goes inside.
Down low to Silva.
Reverse layup.
Good step right down to the rebound.
Great athleticism to get that shot off.
Walking it up Maddie.
Decorate.
Get some help from Liv Adams.
And they're going to call it travel again I would love to see her shoot that coming off.
Or just pause a second to let her teammates get closer to the basket.
It's a catch and finish rather than a catch.
Enough to create.
A silver off Mary Aiello.
Back to silver.
Back for the loose ball finds Maddie Duprey.
Vikings up the court.
Nice inside.
Olive Adams.
Adams throws it up.
No good.
Nice idea.
Good entry pass.
Adams was.
Prompt to Mariela in the corner to Silva for three.
Yes.
And that's what they can do.
They could put it 3 or 4 threes off in the span of a minute.
Beautiful looking sharp.
Nine point lead now down to four.
Cooper takes a look comes around Adams goes to the baseline, puts it up and goes off the sideboard.
Step right on the floor.
Is going to have to do some ketchup.
Lagasse.
No.
Crump for three.
High rebound and Adams goes down.
And that hurt.
Both those players are going hard for the ball.
And their arms got tangled and ended up falling.
She goes to the sideline.
And she was she was in some pain.
Let's see if we go oh there we go.
Saw the end of a she and she got tied up.
And for what it's worth that looked like a good non-call there.
Were they colliding?
Yeah.
I think both teams are just fighting.
They're playing.
Just allowing them to do it is fun to watch.
Sometimes you don't want to get caught up in that physicality you want to focus on.
It's the play that you have to make.
Bell tries to go down low, goes out of bounds, remains Viking ball.
Minutes to play in the first half.
Good idea.
And that her teammate replaced from her ball side block to the other.
She was open.
Just couldn't make it through Carron to inbound looking and stolen away by a very yellow jazz Silva ahead of her.
She drives on high.
We go.
Well, I saw a signal for.
Yeah they were.
She tried to draw the player control foul and didn't get it.
So that's that new.
And now they're calling.
They're calling the flop call.
Yeah.
So they call it and then they wait.
And there's the dead ball situation or a possession that they can then stop the game and give that one.
I have good eyes, coach.
Yeah.
Because there wasn't much contact when she hit the draft.
All right.
So caribou on another floor for caribou would be a technical.
Yeah.
So it looks like they're dropping back.
Gabby Smith comes in the game for Biddeford.
Ariella goes out a good call by coach parroting.
Switch it up a little.
Play.
Doesn't mind making it through the back court without having somebody face.
Karen, they got an out of court and back out.
Smyth stays with her.
Comes around avec le back.
Looks inside the ball knocked away.
Nice play by Smyth.
Crump on the run measures.
Oh no a at up and in at first as you say what a good call.
And then she passes like oh she should have shot.
I'm like no she didn't.
She was doing it for a layup.
Great read by Colin.
Stepping into the lane comes to Karen Karen.
It's blocked by Silva.
Loose ball picked up by Lagasse.
Takes a look up court.
Silva for three.
Around the no good loose ball picked up by Corrigan.
Back up to Karen Karen right hand side finding somebody in maroon like oh that one that break no good and gets her own rebound and fouled from behind.
Maybe on plum.
She is so strong.
Watch this rebound.
She's just to rip it.
Right back up.
Is that two on Crum.
Yes it's the second on front.
Well at this point she is the most important player to match up with a guys.
She can get in foul trouble.
You see coach talking to her and coaches, right I, I think she's a great match up.
They're forcing her to do so much.
So she's probably feeling a little bit tired.
But you got to keep her honor because if you don't and she scores another ten right.
Well see who's going to get tired first.
Oh I think they're I think they're tired and how hard they're playing.
They're definitely tired but they just fight through it and see Karen because the and Kayla Brown wants a timeout 1815 205 to go.
Second quarter Vikings with the ball and the lead.
Just by the way again for your viewing enjoyment season eight of high school quiz show Maine returns on March 20th.
That's a Thursday.
Tune in to watch school and around the state match wits and compete for the $1,000 prize this season.
Schools from Orono to Fryeburg.
The South Berwick men battle it out for the championship.
All starts Thursday, March 20th, 8 p.m. Maine Public Television.
So you know what?
I just I love watching about daybreak.
She attacked her, pressing the full court.
Without a doubt, she's tired.
Right?
You can see it.
Well, what tends to happen sometimes the players, when they get tired, they settle for threes because they don't want to dribble, they don't want the contact.
And the easiest decision is shooting threes.
Well she's been trying to do is get to the block right.
So she's trying to be like I don't know how much I can create right now with the ball in my hands, but let me get to the block where I can try to score from that position.
So be interesting to see if they're able to get it to her in a position that she has to make less decisions, less dribbles, and just be able to turn and put it up.
Directing traffic is Maddie defray from the back court.
Crump honor.
They want to get that third foul on Crump.
Come the court.
And, Deborah goes to the floor, gets it to court, and they're trying to get it to bring her back.
Look at the loose ball and travels with it.
Jennifer played great defense that last possession having high hands because she was open on the block.
But it was that deflection that beautiful was able to take it.
Deep right over playing to the right trying to get.
Out.
Oh no.
Oh West sorry.
She's going to say.
Oh house on on Crump.
That's Crump was signaling to him.
Look she grabbed me.
Let's see what it looks like.
Yeah.
No I didn't do that.
Well, she's going to have to think about it now.
With three fouls, she goes to the bench with a minute 31 to go in the second quarter.
I like we talked about before, there's so much talent in Biddeford that Crump goes down.
Someone's going to step up Karen comes to court and Carr and watch by Mary Aiello.
They find that prey.
Talia Silver is now be the primary defensive responsibility.
Definitely brings the ball down and Myanmar Ella says I'll take that.
Hey, Joe, nice job stopping her being able to get that turnover and hopefully they can convert here.
Spike has a look.
Trump's legacy back.
Bring it around and reset the offense McAllister over.
And so Mario Smyth.
And Keisha good the shot no good ball kept alive.
Put back up by Smyth.
No call and to the floor Biddeford comes up with it and they're going to get a foul call on the scrum afterwards.
A lot of bodies are fallen.
They're all trying to go.
After suggesting that the girls are being allowed to play a little bit.
Yeah.
There was a that was a full body content that was, you know.
Gabby Smith goes out.
Gabby Silva comes back in and again Biddeford with the rebound still the baseline comes away from traffic.
Gabby Silva drives on.
Corrigan puts the Italian back to legacy.
They're smart.
They're knowing what time is left.
Silva hits the side of the backboard 321.
She's got to get up in the air and it won't happen.
And there was contact in there.
And Mary Ellen goes hard into the.
Stanchion going to get up stealing it.
Contact after the horn sounded ending the half.
We've reached the end of two quarters of play at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.
The class B girls state championship Cariboo Vikings 18, the Biddeford Tigers 15.
More fun and frolic.

Congratulations to the former Lake Region High School players on their championship team.
Let's give both teams a round of applause.
One even louder than they heard in front of the first state championship crowd 50 years ago today.
Thank you.
On behalf of the Maine Principals Association for being here today, all of you, and supporting our current student athletes as they support the sport that they love to.
That's the nice.
As these folks leave the court, that's another nice touch.
We saw it last night.
We're seeing it here today.
It's awesome.
And speaking, some of you seen a little basketball in her time standing by with Greg Lipinski is somebody who's quite familiar to a lot of folks in Maine.
So here was Senator Susan Collins.
And first of all, thank you for doing this.
What does it mean to you and really to your community to have both teams down here on this day?
It is so exciting.
Of course, the basketball tournament is really the highlight of the winter in Maine for so many communities.
For my hometown of Cariboo, have both the girls and the boys teams make it to the championship games?
It's really wonderful.
And we talked about, you know, some of these kids and their families and people in the stands.
What's it like seeing that continuity in the community and a generation after generation and making it impact?
You know, I was talking to the person next to me in the stands, and I told her that Caribbean star player Madeleine Wright is at the knees of the person who runs my Cariboo office.
I was talking to her about the fact that we knew so many of the parents and the grandparents of good players, because Basketball King and Caribou were very long time as it is, and so many other communities in our state.
It sure isn't.
One of those communities is Biddeford, where you also have an office.
What does it mean to have that community here and see the way they turned out to?
It's exciting to see the Biddeford team as well.
My bedroom burned up as I established my very first year and loved it, and it's exciting to see better are playing so well.
Both teams are doing a great job and it's such fun to watch, and it's wonderful to see the evolution of women's sports.
Obviously, we have the 50th anniversary of the first title teams, and I saw you clapping and cheering them on how great it had been to see the evolution.
It is miraculous.
When I was in high school there were no girls teams.
We played each other.
I loved basketball.
We had six on our side.
Only one could go the entire court.
How times have changed.
So much for the better.
Absolutely.
Thank you so much for doing this and we'll send it back to you guys.
Thank you, Greg, and thank you, Senator Collins.
We're at the half court a couple of seconds left to go here.
Stats on this one.
Not a lot of scoring in an 1815 half.
Yeah.
You just see, I think the biggest thing you've got both teams that are playing really, really hard and they've got to be careful of foul trouble at this point.
Cramps.
Gotta make sure that she stays out of foul trouble because she did a great job on day Pro who's got 11 points for them.
And she's got 11 of their 18 right.
And she could add a lot more.
But as soon as they move crab door they did a nice job of trying to container I say container right.
Try to do the best you can, do the best you can, do the best you can.
The story of our life.
Hey, we got the third quarter coming up here.
In just a moment.
We'll be back to the Cross Insurance Arena right after this time.

Take a look at Jeanine parody benefit coach.
Oh, she's telling her intricate nature by three, but they open the second half with the ball.
Yeah, she's done a great job with this group.
Getting prepared to play at this level.
Being so young.
Critical for the Biddeford Tigers is Jordan Crump, who you say has the big responsibility trying to guard against Maddie Dupree.
Starts the third quarter on the bench.
Mia Mariella tries to follow her shot.
Oh great house by no good.
And there she is again.
Ray down to the rebound.
Surveys the court as she dribbles across the half court line behind the back.
Silva giving her a hard time there.
Go to Corrigan for three.
And and that's what caribou can do.
They can hit those shots and be consistent with it.
That's going to be a hard, hard group to defend.
Natalia Silva goes in and is fouled and the go to the line on the shot attempt.
I love watching the players create and figuring out how they're going to finish at the rim, to draw fouls like she does a nice scoop knowing they're going to come across.
It's a great job drawn out by.
Liv Adams as well positioned, but it was too tempting her.
If she shoots that high that could have been a block right.
But she scoops it so that arm comes down on her.
Great read.
Four point game.
Jeffrey with the ball.
Silva with the defense.
Different spin dribbles takes on and off.
You can't figure out how to stop that.
She's going to be doing that all at let's be honest like that is tough to stop sometimes you're just hoping she's going to miss.
Spike hits the ball, goes out of bounds.
Knocked away.
Liv Adamson I didn't touch it.
It's funny.
Watch basketball.
Watch your mouth talk.
Care was looking at the refs.
You didn't see that one?
I didn't touch that ball looped in.
And Talia Silva.
Corrigan with the block.
They go to the floor.
Jeffries line lying across Maryland.
It means going.
Wait a minute.
She's not touching the ball.
She's on me and doesn't get the foul call.
We started off where we left.
Just like people are diving, contesting possessions.
The ball different.
Draws the foul.
On Gabby solo.
She just knows how to create space.
See how?
It's almost like she's pushing her whole lives to be able to get that space and debris.
That they've been trying to put fresh legs defensively on different hasn't worked yet.
Adams goes up and is fouled.
May have a choice.
But you're watching you watch this one two crossed and that's again got to be careful.
Foul trouble because you don't want Silva to get in foul trouble because she's the one that's been taking right now.
De prey.
Well crumbs on the bench.
Again Biddeford is doing a great job.
They are picking her up.
So court they're making her work for it.
They're hoping as she ends up getting tired I they get a you're not going to stop refresh send a double.
Send a triple.
She's got to find someone open.
They're going to hit a three.
So I think their game plan is let's try to slow.
Let's try to make her tired and exert a lot of energy and see if we get something on the end of it.
Gabby Smith comes on the floor for the Tigers as Mia.
Mariela got a little abrasion on her elbow.
Silva for three.
No good.
Corrigan down on loose ball.
Vikings.
They find number 15 Maddie the she does so it looks like a daddy as she just so much.
For three.
Good bounce.
Smith can't control the rebound.
Adams goes up and gets ten.
They're going to say she was fouled again and will go to the free throw line.
Comes up smiling.
She's just so strong.
And Joshua was patient.
They are going through.
She split.
But it wasn't with quickness.
It was just I'm going to start to dig into my defender.
I'm going to pound the basketball hard and then ride my arms up through the hole trying to draw the fouls, which she does.
Seven point lead for the Cariboo Vikings.
High school high school quiz show Maine season number eight.
Season number eight.
It's been that long.
It's about to begin.
16 teams from across Maine competing to see who will be this year's champion and take home the $1,000 prize.
Tune in to the season premiere on Thursday, March 20th at 8:00, right here on Maine Public Television.
607 to play third quarter, low scoring game, high defense game.
Really kind of high number turnovers too.
Because of that defense.
But again, you can never count Biddeford out with the way they can shoot it.
I know they're not shooting it well right now from the three but they can shoot it.
And so all you need is you say they get back to back threes.
That becomes a one point game.
So they've got to just stay focused continue to rebound play their defense and then have confidence when they have those opportunities.
Adams at the line to shoot two.
Takes the eight.
Make it nine two great shots.
And look at different.
Look for caribou that Biddeford was not expecting.
Lagasse excuse me.
Smyth comes to silver.
Great job handling that pressure.
Gabby Silva backs away.
You take a look at the Viking defenses from this night.
In the corner for silver.
Silver.
They bring it around on Gabrielle Silva.
Mike on the putback.
No good.
Big surprise.
We got a tie up again.
Getting the hands in the rebounding action.
Is Maddie to pray.
Yes.
Yeah she's always in good position.
Jordan Crump on the floor for the first time in the second half.
Just the three fouls.
She's directing a little defensive back traffic as it looks like Crump is going to be again.
She's going to be taking that a solid taking on Maddie Dupree.
She's just got to be smart and have her teammates help her so she could stay on this floor.
A three point shot attempt.
No good.
Kept alive by Adams.
Good read I picked up by Gabby Smith.
And back on the bench for Tigers.
Crump.
Ainsley Caron defending on front.
Great court.
He's had a tough day offensively.
Ball was out of bounds off.
Smith is getting their hands though on second chance opportunities.
They're just not being able to rip those away clean them.
I feel like we've had probably four possession possessions now where it's been a tie up.
Ball's going out of bounds.
They're right there.
They need to get some more sense of boards to be able to get second chance shots.
Adams sets up.
Oh and oh Maddie.
Good fray steps around mid-range jumper from mid-range.
Very difficult to stop that.
This ball goes to the floor.
Nice work by Breanne.
Levac finds Corrigan who finds Stephanie coming down the 4.5 minute mark to go.
Third quarter.
It's an 11 point lead for the Vikings.
Back to Adams Adams saying she traveled had the right idea.
She got the entry pass to Maddie Deborah and a screen and roll.
I mean it's good to call the travel back.
Some might have that charge might have been a foul.
That screen was tough because you have to defend and go double play.
You've got a good roller.
Crump drives on Carron into the lane.
Spins around to Smith.
Back to legacy.
Knocked back to legacy.
Gray or yellow for three.
No.
Run down by a back.
Look back.
Scampers into the front court.
Gets it off to Corrigan.
Car steps around, shot is fouled by Lagasse and she will go to the line to shoot.
Two.
A great hesitation by her right at the elbow.
A nice job driving hard there.
Jimmy Parody wants a timeout at the Tigers.
Have to figure out how to get this thing under control.
Because right now caribou is having its way, particularly as they attack the basket.
It's just been different.
You know, they haven't been taken as many threes.
They're getting to the rim.
They're drawn fouls and they're getting to the free throw line where they're seeing the ball go through the rim for you know Biddeford again I they can't shoot I right now I know they're not shooting it well but that's what they really can't shoot for the first time ever folks.
Antiques Roadshow is coming to Maine.
They're coming Boothbay this summer inspecting Maine antiques.
We'd like you to be there to find out how you can get tickets.
Tune in to Maine Public Television Monday at 8:00 for a special presentation of antiques Roadshow.
Hope to see you there.
I think right now for Biddeford, you know, they've they've got to find ways to to get to the rim or instead of settling for those three step into it three feet and just take a mid range.
Lagasse hit one earlier in that first half after missing a couple.
So they just got to be able to see it go through and build some confidence on that.
Assets haven't Corrigan misses the first?
And makes the second from inbounds.
And the Vikings drop back.
Defensively they don't need to extend full court defensive pressure long as they have a 12 point lead.
And that helps you know save some of their energy that they need for a break in their pressure tonight.
I don't think Caleb Brown could have scripted this a whole lot better.
Are they?
They are playing great.
But that play has really controlled this game and been able to find her teammates and her team is are hitting good shots.
Sylvia runs down the loose ball.
Gabby so look at Smith.
Puts up the little runner herself wide.
Step right down to the loose ball.
Back on the attack.
The Vikings.
She can walk it up now.
They have a little bit of time and patience.
Trump on the steal.
She's so good defensively.
Spin move leaves it up.
No loose ball comes down to Adams.
Finds her teammate to pray.
And back come the Vikings.
She's trying to do everything she can for her team to give them an advantage.
Adams off to Corrigan.
Corrigan into the lane.
Goes to Karen for three.
It's going to be short to Adams.
Up and in.
That's the difference being able to shoot but get off the boards and have a simple putback.
Jordan Crump is going to be called for a player.
Control found Ainsley Karen gets a push for a teammate Maddie Dupree well positioned.
To take the play a controlled bump from Jordan Crump.
Four fouls on from.
Had a good idea but again Viking defense has been impressive.
Oh they've been doing a great job I think Bedford's just trying to find some way to impact and that's all Crump was trying to do is create.
I'm lucky.
I'm lucky for.
But Mary Ellen now picks up the defensive responsibility on step right.
As long as she stays away from the lane.
Three point shot attempt no good that went Adams over the back.
That's why it's so tough.
How do you defender.
She can you know I know she's missed two.
But every time she shoots and you think it's going in.
It's a beautiful character.
Great battle underneath ice box.
One of those.
If you step back too far she'll take that right back to her.
You give her room to drive.
If you play too close, she can play, you know, hard matches.
The tour de force here.
But play number 15 in the room.
Great court gases around them.
Ariel back to look at mid range.
Here it is.
If they can I it doesn't always have to be a three.
Just a couple feet inside the gas.
You can hit those terrible in no hurry.
Good ball control by Maddie Dupree.
Takes the ball and leaves it short gassy.
And there's a reach in foul as.
Well does she still not in foul trouble I think.
Is that her second?
Maybe her third.
Nice job ripping.
And that's what Biddeford needs.
They need to see a ball go through.
They need to get a stop.
To a gassy looks inside.
The smart now comes outside.
Silva finds swipe tackling.
You saw Silva nice defensively terrible again.
Got a really good shot a Thompson saying come on I need some help here and there.
It is added up for a front court.
Steps back coming down to the minute mark in the third quarter.
Inside the green finds nice defensive work by the Tigers.
Smyth out of there with the ball.
There's another stop for Biddeford.
McCarthy for three.
No Levet down with a loose ball.
Mario picks her up.
There's a deep defensive stop.
No!
Oh.
Another flop.
It'll be a technical.
And the gases going up.
That was a flop.
How come I feel so bad?
Actually ends up being a technical.
Oh, I think I think there's a knee to the midsection that was inadvertent.
I think it's the way that she fell, right?
She fell sideways there thinking, you know, she didn't bump you that way.
I'm not sure she's smiling now, but she's smiling because she caught her breath.
Now this is crucial for petticoat, right?
There's some features that they're going to get 44 seconds to go into the third.
And then if they can come inside the first two minutes of the fourth, they could start to build some energy in a run.
This is what they needed.
They've been able to get a couple stops.
That's four points for them with the basket they had before.
The next in the game, clutching her abdomen.
Tigers with the ball.
And you know the bandage on the left arm of Mia Mary Ella Smyth.
Trying to find a fan friendly face comes to Maddie Silva.
Mariela.
Good defense by Corrigan.
Silva goes in a little out of control.
Lagasse.
And we're going to give it a tie up.
Possession.
Arrow Tigers two times now a play off of either a rebound or a price.
They've been able to get two turnovers.
So that inbound to sisters and they're going out of bounds off Silva right back.
Ainsley Karen into Maddie Duprey.
Still no hurry.
Coming down to the ten second.
Mark drives by.
Mariela picks the ball up.
Stolen away by Silva.
Going to run out of time.
No.
Got enough to make the shot up and in for at the buzzer.
Good finish.
Any other finish.
That's what we've reached the end of three quarters of play.
The lead remains much as it was at the half.
3123 the Cariboo Vikings over the Biddeford Tigers.
We've got eight minutes of stop time ball coming back at you right after this timeout.
Production of high school basketball on Maine Public Television is made possible by people like you and by having free college.

West of rice gives the ball to Aynsley Carron.
It's an eight point game.
Caribou with the lead and the ball as we open the fourth quarter.
Corrigan leaves it short and I'll tell you, watching Biddeford come and walking into the fourth quarter, they have a different energy.
Doesn't mean it's going to convert to shots or points, but the way that they were talking to each other, Lagasse penetrates still hasn't having trouble making the basket.
They feel like they can do it.
Smyth is fouled on the rebounding action and Jordan Crump is preparing to come back on the floor with the four fouls.
And she just got to be really smart because they need her out there.
Well I'll tell you who's really smart as number 15 in maroon because Maddie will target.
Oh, and Crump knows how to draw fouls.
Smyth.
Gabby Silva comes.
Natalie Silva.
You got this.
Two three zone.
Oh.
That's what they needed.
I could see it coming off 2 or 3 minutes left in that third lead.
Down to five.
Again no hurry for as she comes into the front court.
Takes a look at Crump, goes ahead, goes to her left, comes to Corrigan.
Corrigan for three.
It's strong.
Oh, what a right up and in a foul.
What a big rebound.
A little Inside-Out offense.
And she cuts to the basket for the rebound.
Just so smart to go chase that legacy on the foul.
Good look there at.
Yeah I mean and hard to tell if you can feel it.
But the momentum started shifting to be able to hit that and one huge play.
Lead back up to eight.
Smyth into the lane.
Kicks to Silva.
Now to Gabby Cannady.
Back to Smyth.
Legacy drives on live Adams puts it up and in with a left hand.
That's a tough shot.
That's all.
I think she has to feel some relief.
She's had so much trouble getting the ball into the basket to the basket has not been.
The issue into is the key.
LaVette comes to Adams Adams back to Corrigan, drives on Crum.
Pump avoids the foul and over the back is Silva.
And it gets Ashley Karen gets the gets the brunt of that second chance efforts from was very smart that her move her hands.
To.
Gracie Karen and the line misses the first.
Again a lot of these folks may be coming in here for the second game.
Also involved in counter.
And they get to enjoy this one first.
Free throw is missed.
Corrigan with a loose ball down to Maddie.
Deep breath.
And in.
Crump couldn't go up with her great patience as that was Corrigan.
I think that made that entry pass.
She got doubled and split the defenders.
Great look.
Legacy to Crump for three.
Just a bit wide.
What a security blanket it is.
Find her and order is restored here for the Vikings.
Love that high screen action.
So does that Adams young has the ball again.
Comes wide to Corrigan right now a lot of up and in.
Nice interior pass down.
Crump thinks that's the second foul on her on this possession.
First one didn't get called, but she got that one.
This game has been physical and they've allowed them to play.
But boy, a lot of kids are doing so many good things right now with the basketball.
You had Biddeford making this run and then Garibay.
Great passing, interior offensive boards and alluding to more points.
Janine, he wants a timeout here.
523 to go.
And a ten point deficit for the Tigers.
Caleb Brown says go ahead and take your time on the today's basketball coverage made possible by Mainers like Chris Thornton, who supported Maine Public in his state.

Fans in the state.
And you just you could see the confidence builds for better effort.
And that is a place that is showing up in that.
I guess I'll do a couple things right here.
But first commit to doing a great job finding hard when anyone you know makes a rotation to step up and stop penetration.
They just dump it down and she's finishing layups.
Kaitlyn Brown has essentially told the Vikings, Just keep doing what you're doing because it's all work.
Silva sorry.
No, it's my she did a great job getting her feet set on that pass to take that quick release.
Beautiful shot.
They have an inbounds play Jordan crumpled.
Put it in and it's the ball went out of bounds.
And Gassy Lagasse took a look at Liv Adams and thought better of putting the ball in the air.
Coming down to five minutes Trump drives on Karen Tucker for a little sidestep all night.
Step away from the defender.
It's my sense.
I guess it's my turn in the in the blender here.
And fearing a five second call and ten second call.
Rather Caleb Brown calls a timeout 445 to go.
Eight point game with the ball.
But they need the timeout.
Yeah Biddeford changed up their defense like normally you're fine day praise going to bring it up.
And as she's bringing up she's seeing somebody to the right.
Somebody to the left.
They were in A1211 maybe.
Watch this little side.
Side.
Yeah.
Modified your own right.
And just the footwork that kids are being taught now it gets amazing because it makes a game simple for them at times.
Right.
That that looks so simple.
Season eight high school quiz show Maine returns on Thursday, March 20th.
Tune in to watch feed from the state match.
Wits compete for the $1,000 prize.
Schools from Orono, the Fryeburg and South Berkel battle it out for the championship.
It all starts Thursday, March 20th at 8:00 on Maine Public Television.
445 to go in this eight point lead for the Cariboo Vikings, Ainslie Karen will set up just in front of you.
I think we saw the stats coming into this thing.
I don't think that Maddie has left many of the games.
I think she's played like 32 minutes.
Yeah, 32 minutes.
30.
Do you care?
She does everything.
Stepping inside.
It's Levesque.
Bounces it inside to deep right.
Nice work.
Lagasse got a hand on the ball.
It went out of bounds.
And instead of getting us a tie up and a jump ball or held ball.
Yeah, they said what?
Sorry, that's a stop.
Biddeford won, and now they're going to look for something on this side to cut this lead.
Bounce pass goes into Silva.
Silva up to Lagasse.
Little strong.
Crump with it.
Tries to go back out to Silva and hit from behind is three.
Levac and she will go to the free throw line.
That one wasn't a flop.
Oh that one no no no free throw line.
Great job taking that pass.
Just got a little bump.
Four minutes to go in this one.
Adams comes around to Karen.
Back to Adams.
Adams puts one dribble down.
Nice spin.
Move up and about in the first half and just barely missed an repeated it there.
She didn't miss that tug Crump looking for help comes to Smyth out the silver for three.
No referee.
Down to the loose ball for the Vikings.
Steps away from traffic.
Goes to her left.
She's so smooth with that.
Behind the back dribble.
That was a set play.
That ball was going to come back to live Adams.
But good defense by the Biddeford Tigers.
Crump into the lane.
The right hander up no good.
She gets it back.
Ooh look that goes down again.
Sharma for three.
West Royce is checking on Bri.
Levac.
She nods her head.
She's okay.
She's okay.
But she's going to feel that one when she gets out of bed in the morning.
That was a big shot.
See it go through the rim.
Anybody who watched that Falmouth, Messalonskee, game last night knows that a seven point lead is as a mean.
Doesn't mean a whole lot.
Again.
Every Biddeford fan here is going.
We just need a couple to fall through because they can shoot it.
Karen frontcourt.
Foul in the corner.
No step break.
Well, puts it up.
No good.
Gets her own rebound.
Gets out of traffic.
They're going to reset the offense.
Smart play here.
So smart.
Mid range short corner.
Lagasse with the loose ball.
Crump on the run.
She wanted Silva deep but Silva was facing the other way.
Crump and they're going to say travel first.
I when I heard that was I was thinking where they calling the push off which would have been her first.
So if anything I'm happy they called the travel instead of that.
Caleb Brown wants a timeout.
225 to go.
Fourth quarter seven point game.
You got to look at the Biddeford High School fans.
They were down in the corner and then they moved.
And then they they almost doubled inside.
Nice support here for both schools.
Yes.
So you can see Biddeford they tried to go up crossing zone.
Right.
To try to see if they can get some turnovers.
But with the toughest thing in that situation is you got to find that on day play after she got two offensive boards.
I think that's the right call because you've got to try to get some sort of steal to transition and get some easy baskets.
But gosh, when you're going up against battle, they play like she is so good.
It's so much fun to watch.
Crump goes to the floor and and now I wanted to I wanted to be able to get that turnover.
Tiger ball possession.
And that's how Biddeford is going to get back in this game.
They've got to turn them over.
Here Mary Ellen is back on the floor.
She's going to inbound the ball.
She's facing Maddie Jeffrey we're coming in.
Lagasse.
Lagasse plant looks good.
No strong gets around.
Loose ball steps back in and Adams going to get called on a body bump.
I'll tell you every time she shoots I do feel like it's going in.
She's got a beautiful shot.
She does a nice job attacking here, not settling.
And.
She's really ball goes out Bri back back in for the Vikings.
Lagasse I feel like has left everything on the court is that long?
Oh, Ainsley Caron runs over Lagasse.
And caribou fans are saying that was a flop.
I'm not so sure it was a push.
If it had been a flop, it was five feet from West.
The rice who made the call?
No, no.
Flop.
Jordan Crump short passing.
Lagasse with the rebound comes to Silva.
Gaby goes to Natalia.
Back for Lagasse, that one looks good.
Side rim.
Corrigan flips it ahead to bring LA back.
Levac drives on Silva.
Break it back up and they find Maddie different.
Looking at a triple team, Corrigan.
Back the different.
Looks it.
No call.
Silva off to Lagasse.
They need three.
Got three.
Four point game.
Great shot.
150.
15.
Oh.
And counting.
Oh, a lot of physical work in the caribou front court.
And Maddie Rae taking her time coming up the floor.
Missed the ten count.
It'll be a turnover.
Accidental.
And honestly, I was even thinking Maddie, her.
This is such a look at that.
Sets her feet.
Beautiful shot there.
Nobody inbound finds Crump from Ainsley Caron watching her.
Silva for another three.
No live Adams down to the loose ball.
Steps through traffic and got to player control.
Fouled.
It'll be better for ball again with a minute to play.
And a four point lead for Campbell.
And again the passing nice job of, Hostos.
And that was inadvertent.
But there was contact with the head.
Lagasse just Adams goes out I think that was a film.
Yeah.
One minute left.
So Lilly Bell on the floor.
Dribble up for Stone for Adams.
Legacy in two point game.
Day after trying.
Corrigan was stolen away by Silva to Crump.
Crump trying to take a look at the clock.
She does plenty of time here from on the up and in.
We have a tie game.
Set for a front court.
Not going to be 10s on this one.
Nope.
She takes a look and she checks the clock.
That break and a quick time out here by Caleb Brown and Crump thought that was a great deal.
Fell on a push off.
Great great timeout by coach Van.
Well we told you not to leave.
Right.
Seven point lead two minutes to go.
Here we are.
We're tied with 22.7 seconds.
You saw this a little and just composed to finish.
Here's a kid who wants to refuse to lose.
But this is anyone that's watched Biddeford's.
They have seen the ball go through the rim so much easier than they've seen tonight.
And you just could always tell they're gonna make a run at some point.
But Cariboo, if you want the ball in someone's hands and say go win it, you know everyone's going to say give that to Maddie gay pride and let her create that.
It's kind of nice to have that on the court.
Funny thing that we're watching the girls check the scoreboard overhead.
This is a hockey off.
You can't see the clock is on both and the backboard is not looking at it.
Yeah, they're not used to it.
Caribou Viking basketball game tied at 40 22.7 seconds to go.
I believe Biddeford has a foul to give to so they can be aggressive without putting them on the line.
As long as it's not Jordan Crump foul.
Correct.
They're trying to deny Maddie defray from getting the ball.
Crump jumps out defensively on different.
They go back to Ainslie Karen Karen to Corrigan.
Corrigan travels.
11.1 seconds to go.
Suns now on the flip side I feel like there's any every player right now for Biddeford could do something special these 11 seconds.
Let's see who can do it.
Crump on the on the dribble Ainsley Karen watching her five for Jordan Crump to legacy.
And we're going overtime.
Oh we're now going overtime.
Hey we almost had our first replay.
It was close.
Yeah.
Oh it wasn't close.
Well no but.
And was rice the lead official here came over before the game.
And he want to know which one of our monitors I wanted it to be mom but yeah.
You know, you were very nice to take this one.
And we both said, well, you're probably not going to need it.
Hey, how was this close, this meeting, is it?
Yes.
Now, this is this is a big part.
You have Karibu, who's entering overtime without Adams.
And that's tough because Adams has been so big in their offense of being able to set screens, roll to the rim and be a presence inside.
So now you got to wonder, what are they going to go to go do offensively to still give Maddie De Pré a chance to score?
But if they're going to double triple team where's the ball going to go.
And they've been able to shoot it while outside also.
But just not having Liv Adams inside.
They're going to have to have a different look.
And as we saw Biddeford came out and did do the triple team on Maddie, Jeffrey and and she was stuck without having that release point where you'd say, okay, I have live right here.
Right.
Well, you don't not now.
These are the moments I love watching.
I love watching the kids.
These are the moments you love coaching, I'm telling you.
Yes, but, you know, I'd rather win it over and, you know, win in regulation.
That overtime.
I'm, But as a fan of basketball, like watching the girls talk, watching the leadership come out and the people that are going to help others rise and be their best version of themselves in these four minutes.
We're in state championship weekend.
I don't think you can ask for more than this.
We've had two overtime games, right.
And and the third game was, was close to last 2 or 3 minutes.
Right.
And we still have three games to go plus this overtime just down here.
And now you're seeing both teams play the best version of themself, which is exciting to see.
Right.
So Royce puts the ball in the air Ainsley Karen and Maddie self go down it.
We're going to do it over again.
And I believe they get the jump now I think.
So I don't think that that break can step in right.
I think it has to be.
It's going to be Karen and Silver Angel.
Come on.
I don't think you practice this.
And it's going to be a terrible Viking basketball.
That cost five seconds.
All of that was five seconds.
Here we go.
Step right.
Being chased twice might pull up.
It's going to be short.
No back rims.
It.
That's her fourth.
Jordan trumpets the call for the foul, and that puts Deborah on the line to shoot.
I think three might have been.
It's hard to target number two.
I think she might have been right on that three.
But like maybe a foot in should be a great effort by Crump.
You got to remember she hit that tying basket to send it into overtime.
Such a competitor.
And the thing we're trying to remember is we're dealing with freshmen and sophomores.
I mean, there's quite.
Two free throws.
Only one of them converted.
We have a one point lead.
Terrible Vikings, but different Tigers with the ball.
Smyth hands off to Silva around a solar.
Mary Aiello to legacy.
Back to Silva.
Smyth.
Crossover dribble comes to Smyth.
Steps in on Cartwright but she leaves it short.
Gets her own rebound.
Puts it up and short again.
And down to the loose.
Falls low back.
She finds Maddie Duprey and a third got a great look there on.
In the corner to Bell and she travels.
I couldn't see something here and she had the right idea trying to attack when they had a hard closeout on her.
And I don't think anybody's falling asleep yet.
Three minute mark coming up overtime.
The gassy Silva looks for her sister.
Let's go with the three.
Makes the three and catch and shoot.
First time Biddeford with the lead two point lead 4341 victory with the ball watched by Mia Mary Ella.
Nice quickness by Mariela.
Height advantage.
Different into the lane.
Puts it up.
Oh high game you have it right.
Advantage and strength.
Incredible defense.
Incredible.
Just a better play Silva.
Oh my God.
Oh.
Keeps it alive Lagasse no play ball goes out of bounds off Biddeford right kids they're working so hard to make that next big play.
So great passes great looks.
Legacy again with another opportunity she created.
And then the ball back in de place.
Hands.
Mary over playing the right hand.
That bread goes that way anyway nice block by Legacy's Smyth with the ball.
Finds Silva.
Two minutes to go.
Overtime.
Mariela in the corner.
The Lagasse steps away from Bell, hands it off to Silva.
She penetrates, puts up the runner up and in beautiful, nice play from a long in this game.
Playing with such confidence for a freshman.
Corrigan.
Tries to find some room.
Here comes Ainsley Carron.
She puts up the runner.
No good.
Smyth down to the loose ball.
Both teams getting great looks at the rim.
Minute and a half to go in this one.
Jeanine parody on the other side telling the kids to calm down.
Stay on the composure here Mary Ella back out to Silva.
They're spreading the floor a little bit.
They're going to have caribou chase them a long time.
Mariela nice composed nice nice ball control on her dribble.
Silva back to me and Mario.
If they foul it puts him on the line.
Lagasse drives on Bell back to Smyth.
Under a minute.
But under 45 seconds.
And now the reason I bring the back.
We'll put Talia Silva on the line.
She has played incredible.
Her offense this second half going into overtime.
She's got to have about you know, 1516 points or so already.
First one no good.
Yeah.
The sister comes over to say you've got this no pressure kid.
Oh got her up to good shot.
Puts them up three.
Jeffrey wants the ball and they're going to call Mariela.
Hold her arms up right.
That's the second time where a Biddeford kid has looked at the official and saying, well, she was holding me first.
Well, I she does such a great job of creating that contact.
Stepping in she watch her.
All right.
See, I said she locked her arm in there and see what she was holding me.
I wasn't holding her smart play, but just.
That's what I'm saying.
I'm such an intelligent player that knows how to draw those fouls.
Creating the contact.
Now you can complain all you want, but you're you're not going to get them to overturn the call.
We could we could put the monitor on and say, well, who did that?
Who did what.
Oh, she said, well, you shouldn't have your arm in there.
Well okay, fine.
Step right.
Makes the first of two.
That's a one point game right.
Shots there was a pressure free throws and she is cool.
Mariela comes to Silva.
The back backs away a little bit.
Karen commits the foul.
And that's right there.
You know they're going to put them on the line hoping they miss this one of them inside.
Karen started walking toward the caribou bench and Kayla Brown said no no no.
That was her.
Don't try to walk off now.
Mario at the free throw line misses the first.
And this is an imperative, said, you know, if we only made our free throws, we wouldn't the last five games and could it be that as it comes down to another missed free throw, Lagasse and we going to tie up possession arrow tied up the possession.
I was just going to say the most important thing in this situation is got a box out make or miss on free throws.
You got to make sure that you get the ball after that shot.
Good effort takes time out.
You know, we've talked about Lagasse having a game here.
Her game has come away from the points.
I mean what she's done defensively and go for the rebounds and she's continue to impact the game as a senior.
All right.
And you've got I feel like it's been a roller coaster for this team which rightfully so should be.
They're young and they're trying to figure out on this stage what can I do to help my team.
And legacy's just always been in the play, like you said, either defensively rebounding, getting a tip, hitting a big shot.
She's just she's had a solid game for their team.
33 seconds to go a one point lead for the Biddeford Tigers for the Caribou Vikings.
Vikings need the ball however it's in the Biddeford front court.
And they can't be like Ainsley Caron has the fourth foul.
She can't be too aggressive.
If you're going to be aggressive enough to go for a steal.
Mariela comes into Lagasse.
She backs away from Lily Bell.
She wants to avoid the five second call, so she has to move the ball.
Silva to Silva and reaching foul by Maddie Dupree.
Gabby Silverman go to the line to shoot two.
Again, I just thinking of how hard they fought to push this game to where it is right now.
A tremendous fourth quarter, two point lead.
They go free throws down this stretch.
Well just again a reminder.
Still for two from the line.
Freshman guard in front court Kayla Brown wants a timeout 17.4 seconds to go in a three point lead for the Biddeford Tigers.
I don't think Campbell should be afraid of that three point shot.
Oh, not at all.
And honestly, it all depends, though, what you know caribou has.
If they have another timeout, you don't necessarily have to go after it.
No.
You could call it stop the clock, set up the defense.
If you don't have another timeout, that's probably going to be your best option and they can pet it.
They've shown a couple of their kids have been able to breathe today.
And they're going to give a lot of their defense, going to give a lot of focus on day pass.
Boy that was excited though.
I just, to push that to overtime and, to see how it's developed in overtime.
Caribou and Biddeford, they definitely put on a show for tonight.
And today caribou kids look a little bit relaxed and they can't wait to get back out here.
These kids are, you know.
You think, oh, you know, I could play basketball for 3 to 6 minutes.
Yeah.
At this pace, you Ange McCarron to inbound the ball.
It's going to find caught.
And now she comes to a different cross.
The double team tries to dribble through it.
Stolen by Silva.
And again the reach and foul.
This one.
Umbrella back and Gabby Silva will go to the other end of the floor.
That's a great little bit greedy I think trying to dribble.
Drove through the triple team.
If she made it great.
Yeah that was a great call by Coach Parrot.
If you like it it's going to go in her hands.
Let's double her and make triple a half to give it up.
This is the first year, coach.
Just make one switch on just one.
And doesn't Ainsley Carron down with the loose ball finds step right different background.
In the front court.
And they're going to say a foul on.
Maddie Silva with 1.5 seconds to go okay.
Now this one's easy.
Wow.
Make the first miss purposely miss the second.
But get your own rebound.
Yeah.
All right.
You coming down to this first.
You got to make the first one first.
Outstanding game for this kid right here Maddie to play at the line makes the first.
And that's not easy.
My gosh.
Knowing you're going to try to miss a second.
She looks over to Kayla Brown.
They know what they're going to do.
It looks again this may be some firmness.
Oh she made the second one.
That may not been oh oh my gosh.
Oh and fouled.
Wow wow.
Quinn Corrigan is going to the free throw line to shoot two.
Oh that's a state championship.
Holy cow.
Great job by her knowing oh it makes the first to tie the game.
We can face a second overtime or caribou goes home with the goal ball.
Go.
No way.
Amazing.
Amazing amazing.
And shot.
That wasn't what.
That wasn't what you thought was going to happen.
I would have well, we both would have lost money on Denver making that second free throw.
Oh, absolutely.
And in fact, when she made it, she hung her head like, man, I was supposed to.
Oh, and yeah, yes, it all worked out the way we wanted it to.
Just look at this.
Quinn Corrigan.
Wow, that one to tie it.
A little bit of encouragement from her teammates.
Oh, yeah.
This game being on the line with point four down one.
Okay, make those free throws.
Here's the thing.
They didn't get a foul.
They got to try to draw the foul.
They don't have anybody who can throw the ball.
You can't on court and you can't get a shot away.
If I'm Caleb Brown and she's over on the sideline say no.
Oh yeah.
Not foul.
So they're staying right away from the Tigers.
Silva inbound.
The long heave.
The terrible Vikings have won the state championship.
Wow.
You can see it on their faces.
Like did we just do that.
Is that really how we just won.
Hats off to caribou for making play after play.
Biddeford has nothing to hang their hat on.
They last.
They fought just about the time.
You think you've seen everything right now.
Wow.
What an incredible effort on both sides.
Biddeford will be moving to class A next year with the structuring of basketball high school basketball in Maine.
They're going they may be going and and the thing is oh, they have they're so good.
They're so young, but they have so much hearts to go through the line.
But the incentive is going to be there for such a young team.
And team parity gave a nice handshake to Maddie Duprey.
Oh she did such a great job coaching tonight and getting her kids to settle in and still believe.
Yeah.
And to believe they were down by one 1112 something and they easily could have just quit.
And she got them to fight back.
She had to manage foul trouble.
But boy those free throws Kayla Brown's over there going.
We had it the whole way.
I don't know why you're making a big deal and think of that.
They did that all while she was out for once.
It was just a what an incredible finish.
They're trying to figure out all right.
Yeah maybe they didn't anticipate winning.
So they have to do the choreographing of all right.
Who's going to go to winning that.
Yeah.
Wow.
What an exciting finish.
I don't know.
We have Cheverus South Portland in the double play game tonight.
They're going to have to go some to beat this one I don't I don't I don't know how they can.
Wow.
That was Holy cow I want to go back and watch out all over again.
Yeah.
So.
Well, some terrible defensively.
They worked well together.
They moved the ball well.
They hit open shots when they needed to.
Like going the number 11.
And in her dream sequence, how many times just flows coming up through Quinn Court.
And just a freshman has said, yeah, I'm going to be standing at the line to win the goal ball.
Yeah.
My point Championship is in my hands.
Yeah.
But to have the presence of mind to get the rebound off the missed free throw and immediately go back up for the shot if she tried to turn and find a teammate, didn't have time, they would just really smart plays down the end.
They finished with 27 points.
But I just even the times that she got other kids open looks the rebounding offensively and defense defensively, she was so much fun to watch.
Tyler yeah, she's good.
Well, those who watched the Northern tournament they're used to this team.
Compare their moves after their time and marching toward this.
Yeah.
Last one game all year.
And.
Somewhere in Mount Desert Island Trojans are going yeah, yeah.
We had them the whole way, like they lost.
I'll tell you, the northern teams, they are tough, and I just I love how much they love their basketball and bring it back to Caribous crowd.
Yeah.
Everyone showed up.
They just.
Yeah.
But they were monochromatic.
Not only of the chairs, the same color, the person the same color.
But I mean, look, even Biddeford.
Yeah.
Biddeford's community.
And they are coming here and cheering for their first ever title that they were trying to fight for.
These girls are lucky to play in front of their communities, and they represented them well today.
Janine parity is going from player to player on the Biddeford bench consoling those who are upset.
You know, that's they you know I think you know they would be.
But it's a different feel because they at won they fought back so hard in a game that people thought all right it's going to be care.
But they fought back then everybody believed wow Biddeford won that.
And then it quickly turned.
And nothing I mean you really there's nothing that they they did wrong.
It just caribou made plays.
They made that play at the end.
They made the free throws that they needed to to win it.
But Biddeford had so much of the turnover run by Maddy Duprey was the defensive.
Oh the turnover there was amazing.
And Biddeford comes back down.
They take the lead.
Imagine I just change the fortune here a little bit.
Imagine that they lose by a point and Maddy takes the right back.
The counter going.
I go take it over.
There you go.
Wow.
Best moments.
Memories right there.
Riva back.
Quinn.
Corrigan.
Angela.
Karen.
You know, it's just a.
You wonder why.
You know, people come to these games, wonder why they keep supporting the tournament.
It's this right here.
Yeah.

They called it that way.
Just no one else.
No, they didn't let anyone else in.
I can guarantee you this will be an unforgettable game for every participant in it.
Oh, geez.
Including the people on the sidelines.
And you never want.
I just it hurts when you're on the other end of it, but from a stand a fan point of view.
What an incredible game to watch and such a great battle between two teams there.
They're left it out on the court.
They're mingling around our floor.
Reporter Greg Levinsky is going to move in as he's he's saying, hey, get over here.

Maddie is not letting go of the Gold Ball.

When they.
I know, I know what she may have on the bus.
Let's go to Greg.
We'll start with the freshman Quinn Corrigan.
You step to the line.
Sink them both.
How'd you make that play happen?
First you get the steal.
I mean, what a crazy game.
I knew we needed a steal, so I just read the play and.
Yeah.
What was it when you got to the line?
Were you nervous?
Are you confident?
I was shaking so bad.
I was so nervous.
I did not think I would make both and yes, live.
I know, obviously it's hard to watch from the bench and overtime, but how confident were you about your team and how good did it feel?
Oh my God, they're a great team to play with.
I'm very confident in them and every play we do, and it's great to watch.
Even from the sidelines.
I smile watching them play all the time.
Okay, say about you 31 points, 17 rebounds.
You were press the whole game.
Had to handle the ball.
How were you able to keep your poise and lead your team to a title?
Honestly, I don't think I've ever been that tired in my life.
Oh, I'm in no way.
Oh, God.
Come over.
It's a I honestly don't think I've ever been that tired in my life, but I just pray that.
I just pray that I got some more energy and the adrenaline, adrenaline really kicked in, and I just.
I got some more energy, and my girls just.
They told me, keep pushing.
You're doing great.
Keep pushing.
And that is really the key.
I think we have coach over here.
Coach baby over there.
All right.
We should do an interview so they know.
They always like to know.
They want to hear what it sounds like to be state champion.
So y'all make some noise for the people in caribou.
What do you say?
What is it?
What does it feel like to be a state champion and hear the team make some noise?
It's amazing.
Oh, I didn't know we wanted to.
That's all right.
We'll give it back to you guys.
Thanks, Greg.
They're only a little distracted.
Yeah, you're terrible on the floor now, even further away from each other as the boys class B game is coming right up from the cross insurance arena.
