(bright music) - Welcome to "High School Quiz Show Maine."
I'm your host, Todd Gutner.
Well, we're finally here: the season eight championship.
Dozens of secondary schools from across the state tried out, 16 made it onto the show, and two have made it through to compete for the season eight crown.
Yarmouth made it to the final by beating two former champs, Bangor High and John Bapst Memorial.
And they're going up against Orono who made it pass Morse and Fryeburg in their race to the top.
Neither of these teams has been to a final before.
That all changes tonight, and one will walk away the champion and take home the thousand dollars to their school's project graduation.
So let's get things going by meeting the teams.
For Yarmouth, we have Caroline, Maddie, Mathieu, and Elise with alternates Kevin and Chester, and their coach by Sarah Wilson.
And for Orono, we have Dorsa, Noah, Nick, and Alan, with alternates Jack and Micah, and coached by Troy Wagstaff and Shauna Goodall.
The competition, of course, has four rounds.

Congratulations.
You're gonna take home that $1,000 grand prize for your school's project graduation.
That's some awesome stuff.
Yarmouth, you are not going home empty-handed.
As our runner ups, you will take home $500 for your school's project graduation.
What a final it was.
Coach Wilson, I wanna just ask you, I mean, tough way to lose, but you gotta be so proud of your guys.
- Oh, yeah, they have had three very tight games where our hearts were pounding over there.
But this is an amazing group.
They have worked so hard.
We were just hoping to get past round one, and to make it all the way to the finals has just been an incredible journey.
- Yeah, you gotta be super proud.
Really happy for you.
I hope to see a few of you next season too.
Let's go back over to Orono.
Coach Wagstaff, Coach Goodall, this is your second year on the show and first time in the final.
What's your secret?
You got here after year one, basically.
- Well, I think you've probably seen it, Todd.
These guys keep it loose.
They're a great team.
They all pitch in.
What you saw from them is what you get all the time.
They're bright and they work hard, but they definitely keep it loose and they're relaxed.
- Yeah, I mean, honestly, a ton of fun.
I had a lot of fun with you guys all season long.
For sure, for sure.
How proud of of them are you?
- I can't put it into words.
As you said, I mean, Yarmouth was amazing.
I'm super proud of all of them.
I don't know them.
I think that last round was, I wasn't participating, but it was gut-wrenching.
- It really was.
- I couldn't imagine trying to perform under these circumstances for both these teams being here the first time, but just super proud of them.
They hung in there, and I just wish Teddy Dixon Smith were here with us.
(Todd laughing) - He'll never go away, will he?
- [Coach] For sure, for sure.
- So we had a lot of teams participate this season.
Wanna thank all of them for making season eight probably the best season we have ever had.
I especially wanna thank you for watching at home.
Really hope you enjoyed it.
We'd like other teams to be part of this show too.
